I originally went with my sister and her family... now I return every two years. It is a little pricey, and there are probably nicer amenities elsewhere for the money, but the Sheraton at Black Rock has a certain charm about it. I don't want to be stacked on top of everyone else and I don't feel like I am here. Last year they upgraded my room to a room in one of the two buildings on the west side, right on top of Black Rock; although further from the central part of the grounds, it was extremely nice (if just because of the view; the rooms were definitely 70's; rat pack era). I take advantage of the breakfast buffet (though I am going alone this time, I didn't get it in the package; as it's for two people; I will take the 15% off they offer guests and probably not go every morning anyway). Overall I love this place... Quiet and Beach is friendly... look for Willy the turtle off Black Rock if you make it there. Also, nice running / walking path to the West... if your a runner (or a beach comber). The exercise room was vacant when I was there also... Take advantage of the 5th night free or the AAA discount.

Room Tip: Join SPG and they will look for an upgrade when you get there ;-)

My photos should say enough but a little background.

We were upgraded to a unit with a ocean view balcony which was nice however the bathroom was gross. The shower head, shower, curtain, all filthy. The vents were disgusting and filled with dust.

At midnight halfway through a 5 night stay the bathroom ceiling started to leak in the toilet and made the whole place unsanitary. The allowed us to move to the adjoining room for the night, without providing us a key at first for this room. Next day after a bunch of back and forth with mgmt we had that night comped and were 'upgraded' to a cliff side room which was in a better spot of the hotel but a little to late in our stay. Also after asking to be away from an elevator they gave us the first room next to the elevator! You get what you pay for here and this being on the 'affordable' side of hotels around $300/night it felt grossly overpriced and in need of severe improvements in room and common spaces.

This property is beautifully landscaped and conveniently located to great restaurants, shopping and other activities. The rooms/hallways need updating and according to the signs, a renovation is coming soon.

Room Tip: Oceanfront rooms are ideal, they all have a great view!

This is a high end hotel that needs some major remodeling. For a hotel that charges high rates, one expects a better furnished room. There were posted signs regarding a future remodel of the hallways, which were in terrible shape....our room had a good location-ocean view, top floor, but even with all that, the price should be discounted if you offer below par hotel. the grounds were beautiful, and the location by the black rock is superb. The staff was very friendly, and the buffet breakfast was delicious, although a bit on the high side, and the a la carte menu did not offer any cheaper alternative. We have traveled all over the world, and in most countries breakfast is included. Here the hotel should have packaged a special deal for breakfast, as they do already charge the resort fee on top of the high price of the room. I expected a better facility from a Sheraton at this premium beach area. I would check to see if rooms and hallways are done before I book a room-I believe they have some that are done, we did not get one of those....
Once they update, it should go to 5 stars.

Room Tip: Make sure the rooms are 'done' as many need to be remodeled. Ocean front or ocean view are t...

We greatly enjoyed our 7 night stay! The room was great! Very clean and the view was fantastic! No complaints at all! I had read reviews about the parking being bad but we never had any issues. They have special parking that you can access with your room key. We walked to whalers village almost daily. They have great stores and restaurants. Even a subway and a great pizza place in the food court. We definitely plan to return to Maui and plan to stay here again. The pool is awesome and the snorkeling in front of the hotel is amazing!

Room Tip: We were in building 3, 4th floor

We last were here at the Sheraton in 2011. We were keen to be in the Lahaina Hall building again. We brought my sister in law and her friend with us (they were getting married). I love the location of this hotel. It is always nice and quiet and the view of the channel is just lovely. We did have a bit of rain but hey, it's Maui. The breakfast buffet is a good way to start the day - we had it included in our reservation. The deluxe ocean view rooms do need a bit of updating - I noticed the bathroom paint could be updated and there are some areas of the hotel that need to be power washed. I know in the tropics it can be a bit difficult to keep up with nature. The rooms are amply sized, the view is great. I have heard a few folks think the resort rolls up too early at night - well, by 9pm after exploring the island, we were all ready to turn in. It's a great resort for families. The beach has a nice slope but it does fill up quite quickly. Shawna at the check in was fantastic - the local artists who come in and sell their art is a really nice touch. It was great to see the Sheraton supporting the community. Valet and bell desk assistance were very focused on customer service and prompt. I know that we will be staying here again on our next trip.

My husband, daughter and myself, just returned from 10 days in Maui. The resort grounds were beautiful. The lobby and lounges were open concept and nice. The hallways and rooms were in need of renovation. Although they were very clean, and the beds were the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in, they are in desperate need of upgrading. We ordered lunch a couple of times from the Mai Tai Bar. The sandwiches were very good. Had dinner once at the Cliff Dive Bar and it was very good as well. Most nights we drove into Lahaina or walked over to Whaler's Village. The beach and Black Rock were great for swimming and snorkeling (lots of fish and turtles). The pool was great! Overall, best vacation in a long time. Can't wait to go back in a couple of years!
