We rented unit no. 645 from a private owner. What more could you ask for, 2 king suites. 6th floor, ocean views, open balcony, granite counter tops, stainless appliances. The place was absolutely gorgeous, clean and centrally located. The workout facility was ok, funttional enough for a vacation workout. The grounds and pool clean and fun. We went to Dukes a couple of times for dinner and hit their happy hour a couple of times. Some of the best snorkeling we did ws a short drive away. I was afraid to rent from private Owners, they were very informative and good about keeping me posted on times, key pad numbers, and returned our security deposit within a couple days. Thank you for sharing your unit with us! Cannot wait to go back.........

Loved Honua Kai! We stayed with friends that own one of the penthouses and it was a magnificent stay! Facilities and spa (which just opened) were great ! Would recommend for couples or family stay. A lava flow at the pool is a must!

Loved this place, spacious and well appointed, although it was windy up on the tenth floor facing east where we had a partial view of the ocean and the mountains from the wonderful lanai. Actually, the lanai doors are floor to ceiling so when they are open, your living space is doubled. Our two bedroom unit did not have a barbecue on the lanai. The valet and reception staff were wonderful! Dukes is good for a quick bite and there is a grocery store across the street that has everything. You can walk for mikes on the beach and there is good snorkeling right in front of the hotel or at Napili Beach a little further down. One thing we did not like was the numbers of unsupervised children splashing around in the outdoor hot pools. I had to use my best teacher's voice to settle them down! Expect lots of kids during the Christmas break which is when we were there. There are a few warm showers at least twice a day, but a minor inconvenience, especially when followed by the usual rainbows. There is no spa...we had to go elsewhere for that.

We arrived at the Honua Kai and entered into the spacious lobby overlooking beautifully lush landscaping and the stunning blue of the ocean! From that moment on, we felt relaxed and surrounded by the beauty of Maui! We rented through KBM Hawaii and met our representative in the main entrance to be escorted to our one bedroom unit. We had a "partial ocean view" but we felt that it was a wonderful mix of the amazing grounds as well as the ocean. We had stopped for groceries on our way to the resort and were thrilled to see that the kitchen was fully equipped for any type of cooking and was outfitted with beautiful finishings and appliances (the washer and dryer were a great plus). The beach in front of the resort was never really crowded (which surprised us as we expected crowds over the Christmas holidays) and the resident sea turtle was such a delight while snorkelling! Although the beach was sandy and relaxing, we did find that there were many rock formations near to the shore which did make for some challenges to swim or walk out into the water comfortably without water shoes. We visited several other beaches, such as DT Fleming and Big Beach, that were sandy far out into the water (although it should be mentioned that Big Beach is not great for small children due to the large waves and strong currents, which suited us for body surfing). Amenities at the resort are fabulous for a condo resort and Duke's Restaurant provided us with a superb beach front dinner on Christmas Day! The pools were very popular for the children but our son, who is 12, preferred the fun of the ocean. An onsite gym was also appreciated and I easily found a treadmill every time I arrived for my workout. The location of the resort was also great as it was just a short drive to Lahaina and we found it easily accessible from the airport. It was also easy to drive to the locations of the activities we had booked during our stay. If you are not renting a vehicle, it is a good 40 minutes drive from the airport and most activities seemed to be based out of Lahaina, Maalea and Kihei - which, other than Lahaina, are not extremely close. If you are looking for a laid back holiday with a luxurious feel and are not concerned with having room service or constant onsite services - this is definitely the place to go! We are already planning our return visit for next year and will stay here again for sure!!!

Room Tip: Choose a room on the third floor or higher to take advantage of the views and look for at least a pa...

The trip was great but not amazing. The resort itself was great, the problem is the location gets rain and clouds and wind every morning and that was a disappointment. Tons of gluten free options all around which made it awesome. The pools had kids everywhere and kept my kids entertained. My son loved the kids club. You had to deal with towel cards which was annoying to have to keep track of with kids and pool service to get drinks and food in pool took forever!

Overall it was great but not sure we would stay here again!

My husband and I stayed at the Honau Kai the first week of November. Our rental was booked through the resort itself. I requested the Hokulani tower and a very high floor. They accommodated both requests to our delight! Checking in could be a bit confusing because if you rent directly through them, you do not know 100% which tower you will be in. I chose the Hokulani tower because of the Aina Gourmet Market downstairs . We loved the cinnamon rolls for breakfast. The location seemed perfect to us! We walked the boardwalk and loved to sit on the lawn by the pool and people watch. We did eat at Dukes our first night and I have to be honest, I wasn't all that impressed. The grounds of the resort are immaculate! Our room was spotless and housekeeping was very nice. The bed was very comfortable and linens seemed to be high quality. Since we had a kitchen, we stopped at Safeway and got us some groceries for breakfast, lunch and snacks. The coffee provided in our room was delicious! We went downstairs and bought an extra bag to take home. The location is great! Snorkeling right off the beach, I was surprised how rough the water was though. Rentals for equipment could be made by the pool. We have our own, so we only visited them for towels. All in all, great location, wonderful time and great memories were made! We are planning a return trip to Maui, back to Honau Kai in the summer with our kids.

Room Tip: Request a higher floor, this insures a better view. Request Hokulani Tower, if you want convenienc...

My daughter and I stayed at the Honua Kai for a bit of rest and relaxation and we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. From the beautifully appointed fully self contained suites to the rambling pools in the beautiful grounds it was really a total relax. Having Dukes restaurant in the grounds were they served breakfast lunch and dinner and everything in between was an added bonus as it was well priced and served a wide variety of food. Even if you stay at the resort I would recommend booking in for the restaurant for dinner as it is very popular.
The walkway linking all the beachfront resorts is wonderful as you can stroll and dine at any of the resorts on the beachfront .

Room Tip: The rooms all seem very good. Ours faced the landscape gardens at the front of the property and it w...
