The location here is really good. The kitchen was immaculate and pretty. The stackables were Bosch. Large bathroom (very poor lighting--like, you are going to put on your make up in the main room), large living area, huge patio and the walls fully opened onto patio---basically a beautiful lodging. I was a bit eeked out to see a cockroach within the first 15 minutes of my arrival. I figured maybe this is a Hawaii thing---like Florida and Palmetto bugs....I saw one other roach during my 5 night stay. The pools here are neat-o; but, I only viewed them- too much else to do on Maui! If you have little, little kids, these pools will be awesome for your trip! Beach access is a two min. walk, but the beach here is narrow and steep---it is nicer further south and, please, do make the drive to see other beaches....they are all different! Breakfast at the onsite Market is really good and only very slightly overpriced---worth it. They also have some wonderful deli items: pineapple salsa, guacamole, hummus- yum! Duke's Beachhouse--the onsite restaurant---serves up really good, fresh food. It is pricey, but the view is priceless. I visited the onsite spa. It was good, but not incredible and pricey. This place is more relaxed than some of the other resorts on Ka'anapali Beach---but still near enough to be in the heart of the action. I might try the Hyatt next time, but was not at all disappointed here.

We rented a 2-bedroom ocean view unit on 6th floor. We were a family of 3 adults and 2 children. We rented through VRBO which I would strongly advise because you get more accurate information on the units (to include pictures), it costs less, and you get to deal with the owner. The owner we rented from was especially helpful and personable. The condo was quite large with 2 master king bedrooms, 2 very large bathrooms each with 2 sinks, a tub and a walk-in shower . . . and
a lanai that stretched across the living room and 2 bedrooms on either side. The kitchen was almost as fully equipped as my kitchen at home. We only ate one meal out all week. Our unit was positioned over the main swimming pool and Duke's restaurant (more than decent food). It was somewhat noisy because there were many families there at the time. The beach is really just steps away from the pool area and there is a lovely beachside path that goes south from here along Ka'anapili down around Black Rock (excellent snorkeling) and beyond. If you rent through the hotel Honau Kai , you get more services. However, you pay for them. We had to make our beds every day and wash our own dishes, but that was well worth it for the lower cost of renting from the owner. Our owner even provided boogie boards, beach towels, beach chairs, and a cooler for the beach. Our unit included a stacked washer/dryer. Would especially recommend this condo complex for families. There was a small grocery/deli in our bldg and a fitness center in the next bldg. Parking convenient underground and in an outside lot.

Room Tip: Choose higher rooms with ocean view.

We rented 3 bedroom 3 bathroom brand new condo right on the beach in Maui, Hawaii. Granite counter tops throughout a great stainless steel kitchen appliances including in suite laundry! A amazing dining table inside for 12 and another on the balcony for 8. The view was to die for. We were there in Feb and March and the whales came and went from 7am to 7pm. AMAZING to watch. People pay big money to go on a boat to "try" and see whales. Sit on your own private balcony and watches 100's. The hotel restaurant was pricey as was their own little mini mart, just go into the grocery store 5 minutes away to buy what you need. The property is 10 minutes to Lahaina and 10 minutes to the airport. You will not be sorry for this choice!!!

Room Tip: Try and get condo's that face the pool and ocean. The view is amazing!!!

This was a great place to stay for our 4 nights on Maui.
The unit had everything we needed! We were able to have some home cooked, Hawaiian grown meals as well as have a beautiful beach just steps away. Everything was very convenient and easy and we were very happy that we chose Honua Kai and this unit!
Thanks for a great stay!

We had 10 people for a family reunion and rented a 3 and 2 bedroom condo. Condos were spacious and laid out well. Laundry soap, dishwasher detergent was provided daily. Basic shampoos, soaps...were provided and replenished. Easy to get around the complex. Nice grocery and gift shop on site provided everything from wine, pre-made salads, sandwiches deserts, to sundries, sandals and souvenirs. Staff was excellent. Dukes restaurant (local chain) is the only one at resort and is good but typical Hawaiian expensive, nice happy hour! BBQ grills a big plus! Resort is convenient to Lahaina town, Maalaea Harbor, shopping and restaurants. Variety of pools and hot tubs and nice but narrow beach. Can rent chairs, snorkel gear... on site. Within walking distance to other resorts for more restaurants. The beach was rough and had an undertow immediately in front of resort. About 50 yards south it was much safer and easier to snorkel and swim. Drawback for some families is that each bedroom has a king, there are no twin beds in the resort. You can rent rollaways. Kitchens were large but could have been appointed better. Ours was lacking enough cookware for the 8 people it could accommodate. It would have been helpful to have resort information in the condo as well as instructions on using laundry, air conditioning, wall units for "cable, iPod". This may be trivial, ground coffee should be provided daily, they only supply the first day or two, then you have to buy it. Salt and Pepper should be standard in the condo. Otherwise, we will return.

Room Tip: Our 2 bedroom resort view condo overlooked a construction site for the resort and was noisy. Try to...

We rented a unit through VRBO and couldn't have been more pleased with our first stay at this new resort on Kaanapali Beach. We had stayed at the Sheraton in prior years but this was so much nicer. The resort was opened in 2009 so the facilities are modern and in great condition. Having your own kitchen and living room makes for a much more comfortable experience than a hotel room. Also with VRBO you can see actual pictures of the room and the view from the lanai. The resort has 10 viking grills spread on the grounds and most people grilled and then went back on their lanai's to eat. The rooms all have NanaWall type sliding glass walls so you can open up your room to your balcony.

There is a Duke's on site, you can walk about 35 minutes to Whalers Village for other restaurant choices. If you drive to Whalers Village they validate parking for 3 hours. There is a Lucky market across the street so we grilled steak and salmon purchased at the supermarket.

There are several pool areas with one reserved for quiet enjoyment. Obviously more families that you would see at a traditional hotel.

There are two towers, Hokulani and Konea. Konea is a little newer and we rented a one bedroom, Konea 206 (VRBO 303785) which had a den converted into a second bedroom. Very clean and economical if one bathroom works for you. While at the resort we viewed Konea 703 which has just come onto VRBO under number 578037. It is a spectacular two bedroom with a panoramic ocean view. We will be returning and staying in 703 for sure.

Room Tip: Look for the best ocean view. You will want to spend evenings on your lanai watching the sunsets so...

We booked our Hawaii holiday through My Hawaii and visited 4 of the magnificent Hawaiian Islands. Honua Kai in Maui was my favourite! We loved our studio room with ocean views overlooking the pools. The facilities were great and the whole ambience of the Resort was romantic, to the point where my partner decided to propose on the balcony (lanai). Great memories.
