This marine preserve hidden across from where the sugar cane train is, is the best snorkeling spot on the island. Great parking and facilities close to the beach. This is only place on Maui where I have seen an Achilles tang and trust me, I've snorkeled every spot on the island. Not to be missed, but please be respectful of this special reef.

There's a nice reef off this beach for snorkeling. The first reef is bleached and not much fish, so the trick is to swim past that to the next line of reef. Good facilities - bathrooms, covered pavilion (for when it starts raining!), and picnic benches. Lovely location for a sunset.

This beach is directly in front of the hotel resorts so expect it to get crowded. The water was lovely, so were the views and there are shade provided by the trees. Lots of folks snorkeling (directly across the Westin) and scuba diving. Weather is pretty fickle and it rained pretty hard while we were there so we didn't get to stay long.

We went to this beach to snorkel twice. The first time was a Saturday after snorkeling Black Rock. We enjoyed it so much because it wasn't nearly as crowded, and the coral appeared to be much healthier. We also got to see two large pods of spinner dolphins swim north along the coast. Very cool and a great day! The next visit on a Monday didn't go so well. The wind was out of the west, so the entry was much rougher and visibility was not as good. After our second snorkel swim, we went back to our beach chairs and found that our backpack was gone. This was the first time we took a backpack to the beach, and just as we had been warned, someone was watching and waiting to take it. Luckily, I kept my driver's license, credit card, and car keys in a dry box zippered in my wet suit. However, we lost some expensive sunglasses, prescription glasses, and several electronic devices including a cell phone. I would still recommend going to this beach; however, I would recommend following this list of
"Don'ts" as we did on every other trip to the beach.
Don't spend a lot of time at your car visibly sorting out items to take to the beach. Have everything ready to grab and go.
Don't let anyone see you putting items into your trunk.
Don't leave items visible in the front or back seat of your car.
Don't set up your chairs or leave belongings near an access to the beach walk.
Don't take a backpack to the beach. A thief will assume that's where your valuables are.
Don't leave anything valuable (driver's license, credit card, cash, car keys, cell phone, etc.) on the beach. Get a small dry box and plenty of Ziplocs and take bare minimum items with you when you snorkel.
This is a wonderful beach as so many others are in Maui. However, if you don't take precautions, there are predators waiting to take advantage of your carelessness.

Best beach on the west side with great snorkeling/swimming/kayaking opportunities. Full restrooms and showers with ample BBQ and picnic tables. Not to be missed when on the west side. Great place for sunsets too!
