“A Taste of Paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 January 2014

Our first time in Maui. We found the Royal Kahana online. The price was amazing for a one bedroom suite facing the ocean. Our first night was spent in a suite on the third floor which gave us a somewhat restricted view of the actual beach. When we inquired in the morning if we might be able to move up to a higher unit, Caroline, on the front desk, gave us several options which we checked out before settling on a condo on the fifth floor which was spectacular! We had the most incredible service while there. One of the best features was the complimentary breakfast on the morning after we arrived sponsored by Aloha Concierge. They were able to give us some helpful suggestions as to activities we might want to engage in during our stay. We took a helicopter tour of the island, kayaked, and took in some cultural events. We're planning to return next November.

We stayed at Royal Kahana from 12/06 to 12/12/13. Booked our trip via Costco travel. I must admit I was a bit nervous about our accommodations after reading past reviews but our room was great! We stayed in the one bedroom, ocean front (room 712) and had spectacular views of the sunsets each night! Yes the furniture was a bit dated but the bathroom was remodeled nicely are our room was very clean upon arrival. Kitchen was stocked with utensils, pots/pans, etc. There is a grill on the grounds and we took full advantage of it. The "private" beach is shared with other resorts which made it super easy to rent paddle boards, snorkel equipment from a resort down the way and not have to drive somewhere for rentals. Stores are nearby in walking distance for coffee, souvenirs, etc. The grounds were also well kept. I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay!

Aloha pumpkin23_7,

thank you for taking the time to post your positive review. I'm so pleased we were able to exceed your expectations of the property. The grills are a great amenity for guests especially with all the fresh fish and produce on the island.

You have offered quite a few helpful tips for other guests. And I am sure they will be glad to know you were able to find everything you needed within walking distance. Please let me know if you need any assistance in booking your next stay with us. We look forward to welcoming you back soon!

We stayed at The Royal Kahana from 12/15/13-12/22/13 for our Christmas vacation. We booked it through Costco Travel, and it was listed as Lahaina area, not Kahana. We were in a studio ocean view room (room 703). This was a great room with a great view, Let me say that this 'ocean view' room was actually partial ocean view, but still great and we able to sit on the lanai and view the ocean. This condo had all the comforts of home from the kitchenette to the washer and dryer. They do give you 1 box of laundry soap and you can purchase additional boxes for $1.00. The individual owner also had boogie boards for use. The pool was perfect, but no hot tub. The hotel beach was great and seemed secluded and not as busy and crowded as other places (which we loved!). The only cons I had was that we were not able to get new bath towels daily, like in a regular hotel. They figure since you have your own washer & dryer, you can wash and dry your own towels We did however, get housekeeping service and new towels mid-stay. Another con was no free continental breakfast, but then again, we had a stove, microwave and refrigerator, which we used to cut down costs. The staff and concierge were very helpful and friendly. Other cons are no free internet and further away from other tourist spots. It's about 45 minutes to Kihei and about the same to the airport.

All and all, this was a great place to stay for reasonable priced lodging and we would definitely stay here again!

Aloha MauiMona,

thank you for taking the time to post your favorable review. I'm pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and we look forward to welcoming you back to the property. Staying in a condo does afford you the ability to wash your own laundry and cook your own meals but I can understand the desire for some hotel amenities.

Please let me know if you need any assistance in booking your next stay with us. We look forward to your return.

Let me first explain something. Royal Kahana is managing property and they have about 30-40 rooms for them all others are owned by someone. So what you get varies. What I mean by that are the appliances, TVs, bathtubs etc. You get all the services though. We booked it through costco and took Ocean View (this is partial ocean view, Ocean Front is panoramic view of ocean). So yeah the property is right on the beach. People here are really nice. When we reached, we were assigned room 802 but we wanted higher so they showed us one on the 10th floor and another on the same floor. Our room had flat screen and good appliances and there was not much difference in view, we stayed put.

If you come unprepared they have service through which you can book other activities or even ask any question you have, they have orientation 8:30 in the morning. We had booked stuff but still it was informative. Chipp is the guy we talked and he was really helpful. We also rented snorkel gear, we paid for 3 days but still they let us keep for 5 days.

So as I said every room is different but they diligently try to make stay pleasant for you and offer other option they have available.

Room Tip: We booked on the opposite side of the pool. I didnt see any burned down building as I read on some o...

Aloha mihireng,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. You are correct that Outrigger is a management company at the Royal Kahana and that units are individually owned. However we do manage 162 units which is the majority of units at the property.

Thank you for sharing your comments about the concierge. We will be sure to pass them along to the proper person. Please let me know if you need any assistance in booking your next stay with us. We look forward to welcoming you back soon!

We spent two delightful weeks at the Royal Kahana in November 2013. We found the staff very helpful. We even had two complimentary full cleanings. Our unit had everything that was needed and more- high efficient washer! You found staff taking care of the building and grounds on a daily basis. The view is great from your private lanai. The units that are managed by Outrigger are on a rotating basis. You do have the option of not accepting the first unit-ours was perfect. The burnt out building that everyone complained about has been removed and was not on Kahana property. They could only address the issue with the owners. You get a lot for your money with this property-pool, exercise room, walking distance for food or eat out, ocean beach, full kitchen, everything you need for your first morning, on site concierge for booking excursions, turtles basking on the beach and a/c. Great bang for your buck!

Room Tip: Room 809 is an oceanfront one bedroom unit. It has a beautiful tiled walk in shower, everything was...

This privately owned one bedroom unit was fantastic. The minute you open the door it is evident how much thought and care went into the decor. The ocean is the first thing you see and it is breathtaking. The views from the lanai were great especially the sunsets. We rarely used the air conditioning as there was nice cross ventilation and enjoyed going to sleep and waking to the sound of the ocean. The unit was extremely clean and offered all the comforts of home. We could not have asked for more and we would not hesitate to stay here again.

The condo was perfect for us. Full kitchen was great so we could prepare food as we wished which saved us money to spend on excursions and nice meals as we wanted to do that. Location was quiet and not a lot of traffic and people and vendors like the big resorts. Close to various beaches and to lahaina and kaanapali for shopping and dining. Friendly staff. We had an oceanfront room which was wonderful. Yes it seems a little dated but we did not come here to sit in the room all day. Great value for the size of condo and amenities ( laundry in room, free parking, beachfront, on site grills and concierge ).
