“Awesome Condo 705”
Reviewed 22 December 2010

This past summer we stayed in 705. The place was beautiful, they had everything one would need for a vacation! We rarely cook at home, but because of the awesome view, we made use of the facilities including the BBQ. We even grilled lobster, and ate on our balcony every morning and almost every night! The sunsets were absolutely gorgeous. The wi-fi worked great too. The bathroom had plenty of space including a washer and dryer. We've been on Maui a minimum of 10 times and this place was definitely the best place we have stayed at, much more relaxing than a top notch hotel. We stopped off at Costco and the local market to bring our food in. We'll definitely return again! Aloha

Everything about unit # 106 was great. Great location, easy parking, gorgeous grounds, remodeled ground floor unit with no "critters", fantastic view of Malokai and Lanai, just steps to a great beach, no AC - no problem (just lock the screen door and prop open the main door for a nice breeze). Only negative was our neighbors in #206, who were loud and and treated the beautiful grounds in front of us like a trash can.

My wife and I spent a week at the Valley Isle Resort in Kahana, we had unit 109 on the ground floor and could be in the living room and get to the beach in 5 seconds. We swam with sea turtles w/ our snorkeling gear right at the beach out the back door. It was fantastic. The condo was very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. From the great patio we watched the sun set behind Lanai and Molokai every evening!
The resort is also just a short walk to dive shops for rentals, maui brewing company, coffee shop, general store, pizza place, Roy's fine restaurant. We tried all of those places and liked them alot. There were a few other places like a steak house that we
didn't make it too. We can't wait to go back.
I don't have enough thumbs to give this place all of the thumbs up it deserves. It's fantastic.

We stayed at the Valley Isle Resort in Unit #605 owned by Gary & Geri of Partners in Paradise. It was the perfect place for us to stay. Didn't need all the hustle & bustle of a typical hotel. This was the perfect location, midway between Lahaina/Kaanapali and Napili/Kapalua. Direct beach access from the building across the most perfect lawn...no need to wear sandals to the beach! The view from the unit was spectacular...the ocean views with Molokai and Lanai on the horizon have ruined us from ever staying in a non-ocean view unit again! Sunsets were gorgeous! The condo has been tastefully upgraded and has all the necessary supplies to start your trip off. A well stocked kitchen and bathroom (with beach towels and beach toys!) and plenty of bedroom storage to fully unpack and move in! Also a big plus is the washer and dryer in the unit! Friends of ours have already booked the unit based on our glowing review! It really was a great alternative to staying in a conventional hotel and we thought a good value for the price! We will be back!

We just returned from our second trip to Maui, and both times we've stayed in this unit. We think it's just about perfect. It's not luxurious (which wouldn't be our style anyway), but it's bright and clean, spacious and attractive. The view is extraordinary with a wall of windows in front as well as on the side. It's so close to the water than you can literally throw a rock into it from the lanai (I did it just to make sure I wasn't exagerating, and I'm not). The bedroom also opens up to the ocean, so you go to sleep with the sound of the ocean surf. The unit has free high-speed internet, two nice TVs (though we hardly turned them on) and a small audio player that you can hook your iPod up to.

We love the location of the resort. It's pretty quiet, but it's only a 15 minute drive to Lahaina, and only about a 7 or 8 minute drive to Whaler's Village in Kanapalli where there are several beachside restaurants. And if you want to head north for a fantastic breakfast at The Gazebo Restaurant, that's only about 5 minutes away (as are a couple of really nice beaches).

Our only caution is that not all the units in this building are created equal (though I'm sure they're all pretty decent). The resort's website shows the floorplan for all the different units. Only some of them have the bedroom facing the ocean, which is a huge plus. And I believe only the units ending in "10" and "04" have windows on the side as well as in front. But in the "10" units those side windows look out onto water, providing for an even more fantastic view, whereas in the "04" units they look out onto a neighboring building. So while most of the units are probably really nice, I would think the "10 units" are definitely the cream of the crop.

The off-season rental rate of (I think) $170 per night seemed extremely reasonable to us (particularly compared to hotels that charge much more than that for just a standard hotel room). And the owners, Dennis and Karen, were a pleasure to work with. We give this our highest recommendation.

First off, I would like to tell you that I am a Worldmark owner and stayed in one of the 14 rooms they occupy.

The women at the front desk were not very friendly or informative. I was highly dissapointed to find out that we were given a ground floor room because I had read that all Worldmark rooms had an ocean front view. We could see a sliver of the ocean but it was blocked by shrubs and trees. However, it was nice to be able to just walk out on the lawn onto the beach (about 50 steps).

I didn't like how the bedroom faced the walkway and since you could not close the windows, you could hear EVERYTHING! We ended up sleeping in the living room some nights to be able to hear the waves instead of the traffic outside. Unfortunately, there was no lock on the screen door which is scary since we were on the ground floor.

The room is outdated and not as clean as other Worldmark properties. I washed dishes everyday and did not leave any food out but on our very last day, we found a cockroach in our kitchen!!! Now I know why there was bug spray under the sink... Gross!!!

We made the most of it and still had a wonderful vacation. Kahana beach isn't the greatest but it is good for sunbathing, wading and watching the sunset. The location is great and very convenient to all things in West Maui. I would love to come back once these issues are taken care. Or maybe rent from a private owner next time...

VIR-Rental-Owners, Owner at Valley Isle Resort, responded to this review, 30 October 2010
As representatives of the private condo owners at the Valley Isle Resort, we’d like to thank LeahBelle22 for clearly acknowledging that her complaints are with her timeshare company and her assigned room location, and not with the Valley Isle Resort. As we have said in the past, we feel the 35 timeshare units at the Valley Isle Resort may not be indicative of the quality maintained by the 60+ privately owned vacation rental condos that are not part of the timeshare program, and these complaints should probably be directed at the timeshare company, and not at the Resort, which includes many lovely and well cared for privately owned condos.

We would also like to inform future potential guests that, if they wish to reserve one of the privately owned condos at the Resort as LeahBelle22 has suggested, they need to use the link to the official “HOTEL WEBSITE” at the top of this page. The “Check Rates and Availability” link in the highlighted box is provided by TripAdvisor affiliates, such as Expedia, Travelocity and Hotels.com, and they do not represent the Resort as a whole. These booking agents represent only a few limited openings in TIMESHARE units that have not been reserved by timeshare owners. (This is a practice we feel is very misleading to our guests, which we have discussed with TripAdvisor, but have been told is out of their control because of contract agreements they have with these major booking companies.)

We would also like to respond to the comment regarding seeing one cockroach in the condo. The Resort takes bug problems very seriously. All units and common areas of the building are professionally sprayed on a quarterly basis, and on an as-needed basis between quarters. We are doing everything possible to eliminate these uninvited guests. Hawaii is in the tropics, and even the best and cleanest of hotels will have an occasional bug that can fly in from anywhere.

We stayed in #1004, a corner unit. The owners, Barbara & Richard French were very wonderful to work with. The unit had 2 Lanai's and was beautiful. We fell asleep every night hearing the waves. The resort is in a great location; not too far, but not in the tick of everything. Very peaceful, and the views .... spectacular. The pics they have on their website do not do it justice. They're close though. We want to return one year during whale season and will request this unit again.
