We are owners at the Sheraton timeshare in Orlando and swapped to stay here. This place is wonderful. We knew what to expect in terms of unit features and it fully lived up to expectations. Units are fairly new and well appointed.

This was our second week in Hawaii and after a first week of hotels and going out for breakfast and trying to snack in room, it was wonderful to have a full kitchen. Everyone got up at their own pace, I had my Kona coffee sitting on the lanai. The extra space in a condo-unit makes for a much more relaxed attitude.

The pools are excellent. Crystal clear and warm. There are several between the various buildings and all beautifully designed. And you are 100 feet from the ocean on a private beach. A board walk leads you down. Towel service was extremely convenient. Picked up a little sand? No problem,. just trade your towel in for a fresh one at any of the towel booths. They also offer snorkeling and other equipment for rent which is great because you will definitely want to swim with the fishes (not in the Godfather sense).

The poolside restaurants are very relaxed and convenient. You can spend the entire day eating, swimming, body surfing , snorkeling, relaxing, drinking and never have to even put on shoes.

The complex is huge, connecting both the south and north units which are treated as separate resorts, but it's really all one big place. It's located 10-15 minutes north of Lahaina (depending on traffic). Driving is very easy but parking in Lahaina can be tricky. At teh resort there is nothing within walking distance other than the resort restaurants so you'll definitely want to get out once in a while. There are many good restaurants along the main road and in Lahaina. And there is plenty of parking at the resort so it was never a hassle coming back.

We were there second week of May and it was still considered "off season" so it was wonderfully uncrowded. It was easy to find open chairs in the shade any time of day.

While you are there, be sure to do a Luau. There's plenty to choose from. They all sound similar. We did the one at the Hyatt and it was what we expected.

If you are a but more adventurous, you can try scuba diving. I highly recommend Jay at Scuba Gods (scubagods.com). Nicest guy you'll meet, patient and great with beginners. None of us had gone scuba before. We did an 'introductory dive' where he provides basic training just to get comfortable with equipment and breathing underwater, etc.. Then he guided us out along the coral reef for about 45 minutes. It was an awesome experience. And I recommend you opting for teh second tank as you will want to do a second dive!

And most definitely take a helicopter tour of the island. There's many to choose from. We went with Blue Hawaiian. My only advice is don't skimp because of cost. It's expensive anyway, so go with a full island tour. Our tour included landing on Haleakala to sip some pineapple "champagne".

There are many many resorts to choose from on Maui. But from our experience, you won't go wrong at the Westin VIllas.

We spent the weekend at the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Villas. We had a studio with an ocean view. The king bed was very comfortable, the room was well equipped. We grilled, using the resorts gas grills the first night. The grills worked OK, it seems that they only had one of two burners operational on each of the grills. The grills could have been cleaner. We had a problem with the ice maker in our mini-fridge. The tray that holds the ice was missing. After calling housekeeping, they didn't have the right size tray but were able to jury rig something so that the ice machine would work. They were very responsive. They did bring us ice while we waited for the ice machine to provide. The beach and pool area were fabulous. We ate at the pool side breakfast buffet one morning - a bit pricey for the selection provided but what do you expect for resort food. The staff were welcoming and helpful and the underground parking was convenient to the room. We enjoyed ourselves and definitely would go back.

Just got back from a week at the Westin Villas in Ka'anapali.

As we knew this was primarily a time share resort, we were a bit hesitant to stay here as had concerns over service and being unduly pushed about purchasing a time share. However, we were drawn by the convenience of having more of a condo set-up than a traditional hotel room (w/kitchen and ensuite laundry) and decided to give it a go.

Things did get off to a bit of a rocky start. Upon checking in, we found our room to be lacking in cleanliness. While neither my wife and I are neat freaks or are overly fussy, we do expect a certain standard to be met (especially upon initial check-in, we didn't necessarily expect to have full cleaning service during the week). Walking into a bathroom that had a dirty toilet seat (I won't go into details) and hair (clumps not the odd strand) in the shower did not really set a good tone for the first part of our stay. A stained comforter and a sticky drink spill on the kitchen floor didn't help much either nor did not replenishing our soap and shampoo the first couple of days. We did politely raise with the front desk our first night and asked them if they could do a more thorough clean when they came in the next day. When this was not done, we escalated our concern into more of a complaint and they actually got the housekeeping manager to personally address with his team the following morning and to his credit, the cleaning was better the rest of the week.

Other hotel service such as the pool attendants, bar/restaurant staff was just o.k.. Not bad but not great. It was sort of like Westin has fielded their "B" team while the the Westin Hotel down the road probably has the "A team. They may want to consider reallocating some of their small army of time share and activity/excursion concierge folks into base services. However, again in fairness, this is again primarily a time share resort so I do have to keep everything here in perspective.

On a more positive note, the resort facilities are good. The grounds were well maintained and I liked the spacious open air layout and the amenities were more or less up to regular Westin standards. The beach is decent although you can't really swim due to the coral (but the main Ka'anapali beach is just a 5 minute shuttle away).

While we didn't use it as much as we had planned, having a kitchen was convenient as was the ensuite laundry. If you have kids (we don't) you could probably save big bucks. We figured we saved about $400 in not having to pay any hidden daily resort fees, preparing breakfast and a couple of lunches in our room, free Internet etc. Of course, with this set-up this resort is primarily a family oriented establishment that does have more than its fair share of kids running around (but this is par for the course in general in Ka'anpali!). We'd probably look to go a couple of weeks earlier or perhaps in October the next time around while the majority of schools are still in session.

Overall, I'll give the Villas a passing grade. I'm not sure if we'd stay there again (and would probably lean to the actual Westin or Sheraton hotels down the road) but I would still recommend this to folks, especially those with families.

Pros:

-No hidden charges (i.e. no daily resort fee)
-Kitchen and ensuite laundry
-Nice open concept grounds and pool areas
-Decent gym and spa
-Complimentary wireless Internet
-Free shuttle to main Ka'anpali strip (i.e. Whaler's Village) every 15 minutes and to Lahaina hourly

Cons:

-Not same Westin service as at one of their hotels (notably housekeeping)
-Marginal restaurant/bar facilities
-Late departure lounge/locker room facilities poorly serviced (again, primarily from a cleaning standpoint)
-No ocean swimming from beach
-Timeshare pushing (although not anywhere near as bad as you get in other places like Mexico)

We stayed at the Westin Villas for one week in March. I have stayed at this resort before, and really loved it. The pool is awesome, the beach is great and I personally think some of the best snorkeling is right in front of this resort. We were there during whale season, and I would be snorkeling and could hear the whales under the water! They were jumping and playing like mad, it was awesome!

The Westin never fails when it comes to the staff, they are always top notch with outstanding service...which is why we always stay at a Westin. That be said, be careful what you book. We paid for a Ocean view, only to end up facing the kiddie pool with a sliver of a view of the ocean. I tried to correct this with management, but it was over-booked and it was what it was. Disappointing, but we spent most of our time on the beach anyway, so it was fine.

I do not recommend any of the restaurnats there, way over-priced and the service is awful! Our favorite places to dine are Mala's, Pacifico's and Mama's Fish House....but bring your money! Overall great stay, would recommend staying there...but be aware that this resort get over run with bratty screaming kids and the parents are no where in sight. Why can't parents whatch their kids better?

We are owners of the Westin Rancho Mirage property and also Vistana in Florida, and as faithful Starwood owners, we were absolutely thrilled with our 1st stay at the Westin Ocean Villas -Kaanapali last summer (2007). We re-booked for a 10-day stay this coming September (2008) and can't wait.

Last summer (2007) our room was in the older original section and we were happy about that since the units are larger than the new ones-North, and just as nicely appointed.

We were assigned a 1 bedroom premium that was on the 3rd floor at the far south end of the building overlooking a landscape fountain near the front entrance of the property. From our room we could sit on the really spacious lanai and see a lovely ocean view and nearby public park.

We know that many people may likely NOT have preferred this room location with the constant fountain sounds , but we LOVED IT!! We are light sleepers and were thrilled to leave our slider doors open every night and hear the fountain...it was like the ocean and it masked out any in-coming traffic from the main highway. No complaints!

Got be sure to tell EVERYONE to please order the homemade chicken soupat the ocean bar and grill...main building. OMG! It was so good we ate it several times while there...and the service was terrific....everywhere we went on property. One day at lunch at the pool grill, I'd kicked off a pair of expensive new leather sandles and then left to go back down to the beach. The helpful staff at the pool restaurant had retrieved them and were holding them for us and saw that we'd gotten a message in our room.

The Westin concierge/greet staff was fabulous and helped set the tone immediately for a great stay with their helpful info and cordial assistance that started many weeks earlier when I'd called to have some dinner reservations made...and a floral arrangement delivered to our unit upon arrival.

Having the Westin shuttle at our disposal was wonderful and we really utilized it many times when we just planned on running down to the Hula Grill at Whalers or into Lahaina for dinners and wine or the Cannery for quick grocery trips. Note: If you're a distance speed walker like I am...it's only about 4 scenic miles from the resort right into downtown Lahaina...and if you're too tired to hoof it back...just pick up the Westin shuttle that has several stops in Lahaina at KOBE restaurant, Hilo Hatties and also at the Cannery Mall a little bit north of downtown Lahaina.

Maui is indeed paradise.....but the real paradise is being able to enjoy the island from such a lovely 'home-base'....the Westin Ocean Villas!

Never hesitate to book a stay at this resort property and...NEVER hesitate for a second....to become a Starwood Property owner.
As my brother (and also my financial advisor) said to me when we bought about 5 years ago...not only are we buying Starwood and all that comes with that name...but we're paying for TOMORROW'S VACATIONS with TODAY'S DOLLARS.....MAN WAS HE RIGHT! I could sell Starwood properties I'm so thrilled with the benefits of ownership.

We just got back from a weeks stay at the Westin. It was absolutely great! The rooms were perfect for our family. We reserved 3-1 bedroom units. The only problem we had is that we had requested they be close to one another and we were all on seperate floors. Each unit is well equipped with all the necessary amenities. The pools were great and the kids enjoyed the water slide. We rented chairs on the beach several days and enjoyed the peace and quiet. The snorkeling is fantastic right off the beach...no need to take a tour in Maui. My only gripe is that when we went to the conceirge to inquire about tours, we were really pressured into taking a tour of the units for sale. I am on vacation, I do not want to think about any type of business!!!!!

We just got back from a fantastic week stay at the Westin Villas North. We purchased a time share last year when we stayed here and this was our first time using it. We loved the Villas North. It does get windy, but when your laying out it feels really quite nice, cools you off. We loved the rooms, the bed is very comfortable, loved having the kitchen where we could buy items for breakfast and lunches and we ate out at the different restaurants in Whalers Village and Lahaina for dinners. The snorkeling is good just right out in front of the Westin. We can't wait to go back. The check it was very quick and the staff quite attentive and very friendly.
