My husband and I traveled with another couple to the Hale Mahina Beach Resort. We are all retired and in our late fifties and early sixties. We loved this condo resort! We stayed in unit B-402. It was gorgeous with leather furniture, beautiful artwork, and a gourmet kitchen. The unit was spotless and had all of the amenities needed for a relaxing time. The resort is mostly inhabited by seniors and is managed by a wonderfully responsible man named Larry. He can be seen early each morning cleaning the pool and the grills. He even swept items off the grass! What a gem!!

Hale Mahina has a beautiful view of the ocean and surrounding islands. The palm trees and meticulous landscaping make it a true vacationer's paradise. You cannot go wrong by staying here. My only regret is that our vacation ended too soon!!

My sister won an all expenses paid trip, and we stayed at the Hale Mahina. It's condos, and we were maybe 50 feet from the beach. Overall, the experience was wonderful, couldn't be better for what we wanted, which was a quiet, relaxing time in Maui, the first trip for us both.

Sleeping: Ours was a ground floor condo, and was equipped with a single bedroom and a hide-a-bed in the living room. My sister took the master bedroom, and said the bed was very comfortable. I just slept on the couch, rather than fold out the hide-a-bed; I've yet to sleep on a comfortable hide-a-bed, but the couch was quite comfy, with the added bonus that I listened to pounding surf all night and had the breezes coming through all night. Bliss!

View: we had a lovely view from our condo and from the green in front of it. The condo sits on a kind of embankment, and the beach is below that. We had a patio, made sort of private by the plants and flowers planted around it, but still providing a lovely view. People in the upper three stories had balconies to sit on and enjoy the view, which included the island of Lanai on the left, and Molokai on the right. Every morning, the sun would come up behind us, and Molokai, which always got some morning rain, had gorgeous rainbows. And of course the sunsets were lovely.

Location: Hale Mahina is listed as being in Lahaina, but it's actually several minutes north of it, in a quieter, more residential, and less tourist-schlocky place. Yet, not too far from Lahaina, should you want to go there for restaurants and the aquarium or shopping, and only about 45 minutes (along some lovely coastal scenery - mainly beaches) in to the airport at Wailuku. An easy trek to the famous Highway to Hana. And beaches galore for swimming and snorkeling, all along that area.

Amenities: we had a full kitchen, a nice bath with separate vanity/sink area, a washer and dryer, and in the kithcen, a completely equipped kitchen with all we could need to cook meals, including a microwave, toaster, blender, dishwasher, cookware, silverware and plates, cups, glasses, etc. There were even paper towells, scribbies, dish soap and laubdry soap - pretty much all we could need except the food, which we picked up at the Costco on the way from the airport. Flat screen TV and cable, DVD, etc. When we needed staff, we found the manager very friendly and helpful.

The Hale Mahina has a pool and a hot tub, and it seems to be a place more suited for people who are not looking to party, but to relax in the sun or shade, read a book, swim in the ocean or the pool, or barbecue (outdoor grills provided). The pool has a sink and a shower, but it there's a sign that indicates no rowdiness at the pool permitted, so if you're looking for a place that your kids can play loudly, as kids like to do, this may not be the best place for you.

Swimming, snorkeling, etc:
The beach is nice - the tide does come pretty high in, and the surf is roughish, but you can touch the bottom for a very long distance out, and so my sister and I, and lots of others there, swam a lot quite safely. There's rocky areas here and there, and the BEST purchase we made before going there was reef shoes. Those rocks are lava, very abrasive, and I cut my toe the very first time I went out (having not bothered with the reef shoes yet - mistake). We didn't get to go snorkeling, sad to say, but lots did - though we were told better snorkeling areas were to the south and north of us. But in the rocky areas, sea turtles come in to feed on the algae, and we saw some.

Altogether, it was a wonderful place to stay! Lovely landscaping and foliage, well kept, clean, in good repair...just a nice place.

If you are looking for a great place to stay with an awesome ocean view - look know father. We went as a family. There were five of us. We have grown children, youngest is 22 years old. We needed a vacation. We lost (5)immediately family member(s),co-workers and friends to death. Our family dog was also diagnosed with Lyme disease, all this in four short months.

I planned this vacation for us. I researched the reviews, read them all. First thing our sons said when we walked in the condo; it is even better than the website showed. We were extremely impressed. The view from the lania breath taking! This condo is nicely decorated. Our favorite thing to do at the condo was eat on the lanai. The family choose to eat at the condo on the lania instead of going out to eat because it was so beautiful.

The condo was a perfect size for us. It was a joy to cook in the condo and I loved the part that I could set a beautiful table scape with everything matching(very colorful). No worries the condo has a dishwasher.

One concern we had was that it didn't have air conditioning. "You do not need it ,really" Owners are right with the sky lights and the fans it was very comfortable. With the ocean and the trade winds it was very comfortable. The average temp while we were there was 80.

Larry the resident manager was very helpful when asking any questions we had. Told us about a very nice beach 2 miles away. Larry keeps the grounds immaculate. What you see on the internet is what it really is and better. He really cares about the property, and it shows.

There is alot of good reviews for two very specific condos there. But our family recommends condo unit A 406 hands down with out a doubt. The owner was very pleasant to work with, extremely nice, very helpful.Very graious, and kind. Our grown children loved it 22y,23y,25. What more do I have to say. We loved it also.

The sunsets were awesome from the lanai!!

It also has a "great location". We already have friends interested and checking it out. The only thing now, is that the secret is out we won't be able to get the condo when we want it.

We Love Maui, and we loved our condo. What are you waiting for?

WOW - this condo was fantastic.

Perfect location - right on the beach. Overlooked the ocean. Could not be much closer.

We ate all our meals on the balcony.

The condo was nicely decorated. The owners took great care.

There was an updated kitchen much better than our own.

This condo had 2 bedrooms - one king bed and bathroom on 2nd floor. You could see the ocean from the bed. This room you could hear the ocean waves. Very relaxing. There was an overhead fan which was needed.

The condo is on the 4th floor. The place has an elevator and excellent parking.

The 2nd bedroom was nicely decorated but was was a bit noisy from street noise.

The was an L shaped couch which also had a pull out. Which we used. We had the patio open all the time.

The weather was 80-90F all the time with a nice breeze.

There was a TV and DVD player.

The beach was private. Not much for fish right at the condo but a short swim there was some you could see. We did not swim much right at this beach but went other places to swim/ snorkel and play in the waves. This was really not a problem.

The pool and spa was excellent. We spent a lot of time there. The pool was a good temperature and the spa was nice and hot.

The landlord looking after the condo was excelent at keeping everything perfect. Even picked up leaves on the grass. Any problem or question and he was right there.

We ventureed up the coast for much better snorkling.

We determined this area was the best area to stay in Maui so you cannot go wrong.

In fact you cannot go wrong with this Condo. I have nothing negative to say. Going to Maui - you stay here!

We found this condo on VRBO and the condo 1was 36091.

Have fun... we wish we could go back!

Spent ten happy days at the Hale Mahina. We were happily surprised by the great view from our balcony (A-205). Had amazing views of whales breaching in the ocean. Would go back there in a heartbeat.

Loved the views of Molokai,Lanai and the whales. Lovely grounds. Large lanai close to the ocean. Our unit was is serious need of updating. Old stained carpet, old appliances. Needed a good cleaning. Didn't have basice cooking utensils. The dryer took TWO hours to dry a towel. The manager was surly and unhelpful. The residents were unfriendly and didn't share the facilities. We could hardly take the charcoal BBQ fumes filling our condo every evening. Try propane.

Love Unit A202! It's clean and homey with a spectacular view. We stayed at another condo during our first week and wished we could have stayed here instead for the whole duration of our honeymoon/vacation. The owners, Jackie and Jon, left us a gift basket which was quite thoughtful and truly appreciated. We love Maui and there were so many things to do, so we really didn't get to enjoy "our home." I told my husband that I want to come back to Maui and stay at the same unit for a longer period of time.
