“2nd time at Hale Mahina, had a great time, depends on the unit!!!”
Reviewed 8 March 2009

My wife and I found the Hale Mahina through a travel agent in 2006. Since we had a good experience then, I booked a different unit at Hale Mahina for an anniversary trip in March 09. We had a great experience this time, the same as we did in 06. But, please note that so much depends on the unit that you reserve. Some units are in great shape, others are in that "funky but workable" space. The A building is older but has a direct view to the west of the sunset. The B building is where we have stayed twice now and is just fine. I wouldn't stay on the 1st or 2nd floors since the view out to the ocean (it's right in front of you) is best on levels 2 and 3.

We stayed in a unit on the 3rd floor of the B building that is not usually rented to the public. I worked through the resident manager Lynne since it was a special event trip and all the other units were booked. The unit was recently updated (nice!) and was everything we needed for our trip.

We met some people who rented B302 and their unit was pretty dated. Sure, it was usable and safe, but the appliances were old, the floor had a dip in it when you walked on it, the bathroom had signs of water damage, etc. Before you book a unit, make sure you get current photos of the unit or just read the reviews on TripAdvisor to get the most current information.

If anyone is interested in visiting Maui, Hawaii then I would recommend Hale Mahina Beach Resort Unit A202. This my second trip to Hawaii and I must say that I had a far better time during this vacation in comparison to my last one. The condos are located on a private beach and the accommodations are simply wonderful. The owners of the Unit A202 are very informative and helpful. Whenever I needed ideas of what to do the owners were always helpful at giving great ideas. If you want to have a wonderful experience in Hawaii contact www.alohamahinacondo.com.

First of all, I had certain criteria I was looking for our maui vacation... 1) needed a 2 bedroom that would sleep 5(son took the couch) 2) ON the beach 3)close to Lahaina, near our family 4)Clean and decorated recently 5) free parking 6) WIFI 7) in house washer/dryer 8) beach supplies... and after HOURS ( I mean DAYS and DAYS of searching on here cross checking reviews with vacation rentals by owner websites ) This was the PERFECT place to stay. I would recommend in a heart beat to friends and family. They definitely take care of the grounds and only draw back if your not on the first floor of the condos is that there is no bathroom at the pool. ( yikes if you have to run to the top floor!) They have an elevator in both buildings and also a cart to help you take things in from your car!! (huge help if you just get back from Costco) Linda, one of the co-owners of this unit 406A in building A which is the better of the two but both are good, is the wonderful to work with. Can work with you on last minute trips too! They have the place decorated adorable yet comfortable. TOP OF THE LINE BEDS, super comfy! Only draw back is the sounds do carry to the loft style masterbed room above the living room and if family is watching tv or playing games, dad won't be able to. But the plus of this is you can see the ocean from your bed and hear the waves crash on the beach all night long. Definitely get the ISLAND feel and sound and smell here. When we arrived and stepped out of our car, we smelled the sweet smell of pineapples! This Unit also stocks a great kitchen with everything you could need for cooking and VERY ORGANIZED! Bottom line if you are staying in the West Maui area and want a quality unit without the hassle of the high rise style places and high end prices, this is the perfect place.

  • Liked — The location, decor and cleanliness! ( sorry couldn't pick one)
  • Disliked — Not completely PRIVATE room. ( masterbed was amazing but loft style)

This was our first trip to Maui and we feel so fortunate that we were referred to Jon & Jackie and their beautiful condominium (A202) at the Hale Mahina. It is a one-bedroom unit, and is very nicely appointed in the decor of the locale. The pictures we saw on their website were not an overstatement of the appearance and quality of the unit. It is well stocked with nearly every item you might need. We made much use of the Ipod dock (There is also a nice flat screen TV—but we were hooked on sunsets!). The best part, though, is the ocean. The lanai looks directly out onto the ocean. The view includes the following: three tall palms, sunsets, spouting and diving whales, a private beach, a well-manicured lawn and grounds, sailboats, kayakers, and a private beach. Sounds of the ocean waves can be easily heard in the condo because the ocean shoreline is about 30 feet from the building. We were so pleased.

Hale Mahina is in a great location. We drove north 10 minutes or so to snorkel in Honoluau Bay (only 5 minutes to eat dinner at Roy’s). Driving 5 minutes south, we enjoyed the beach at the Kaanapali resorts; 5 minutes more to Lahaina—many great restaurants, the harbor for whale watch departs, and shopping. There is a Farmer’s Market in walking distance from the condo.

We really enjoyed our stay on Maui and our accommodations added much to our experience.

  • Liked — Proximity to the ocean
  • Disliked — Guests in the condo below us smoked on their lanai--which polluted our lanai and even the condo

We stayed 3 nights in A307 over New Year's. The unit recently changed owners, but we had no issue due to the change. We chose this unit because of its decor - no cheesy Hawaiian prints or rattan furniture. It's more modern and Asian/Polynesian in decor. The unit is at the end of the building with only one unit on the side and one above, so was very quiet as far as neighbors were concerned. The noise from traffic on the main road was too much in the bedroom though, so we moved out to the Murphy bed in the living room after the first night. This was a big improvement, since then all we heard was the sound of the ocean at night, which was very relaxing.

The owners provided lots of beach gear (nice snorkel equipment, beach chairs and umbrellas, soft-sided coolers, etc.) but strangely enough no beach towels. This is a problem because the maid service who provides the bath towels prohibits them from being taken to the pool or beach (we did anyway since we had no alternative). Oh, and there is fantastic snorkeling right off the beach in front of the building (we saw a cornetfish and an octopus!).

You can contact the owner and see pictures of the unit at www.onthebeachinmaui.com.

  • Liked — Decor (no cheesy Hawaiian florals), value vs. hotel, location (right on beach)
  • Disliked — Lack of beach towels, traffic noise in bedroom

This was our second vacation at Hale Mahina. This year we stayed in A202 and we were very satisfied with the unit. The owners, Jackie and Jon Pizinger, have taken great care with their decorating and the feeling is of a home rather than rental accommodation. The unit was very clean, comfortably furnished and has recently been updated with stainless steel appliances and granite counters. The large lanai has an incredible view of the ocean and the beautiful Maui sunsets.

The complex is a hidden gem in West Maui. It has a waterfront location with unobstructed views from every unit. It's older but well cared for and maintained by the resident managers, Lynne and Larry. The beach is excellent for swimming and snorkelling and the pool and hot tub have an ocean view. The beach is private, accessible only to residents through a locked gate. We would highly recommend this resort and especially unit A202.

My husband and I traveled with another couple to the Hale Mahina Beach Resort. We are all retired and in our late fifties and early sixties. We loved this condo resort! We stayed in unit B-402. It was gorgeous with leather furniture, beautiful artwork, and a gourmet kitchen. The unit was spotless and had all of the amenities needed for a relaxing time. The resort is mostly inhabited by seniors and is managed by a wonderfully responsible man named Larry. He can be seen early each morning cleaning the pool and the grills. He even swept items off the grass! What a gem!!

Hale Mahina has a beautiful view of the ocean and surrounding islands. The palm trees and meticulous landscaping make it a true vacationer's paradise. You cannot go wrong by staying here. My only regret is that our vacation ended too soon!!

  • Liked — comfort and cleanliness
  • Disliked — There was nothing that I didn't like.
