“Reconnected years later with Ocean Project www.theoceanproject.net”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 January 2013

We recently returned to Maui with our kids after thirteen years (then ages 3 & 7, now 16 & 20), where we connected again to snorkel with Mel and CT from Ocean Project, 808-667-6706, oceanproject.maui@gmail.com. The amazing experience was so memorable and educational for our little kids that we wanted to reenact it again thirteen years later with our big kids. The staff did a great job tailoring the sessions to their now older ages and we parents learned as much as the kids. We saw the wonders of the coral reef, fish, sea turtles and great photos. These people are special and helped give us memories to last a lifetime.

Very well organized and informative. The service is kind and you can even touch with your own hands Sea Cucomber, Sea Star, and urchins. Nice restaurant and ice cream stand. Very clean. I was quiet impress to see hammerhead shark.

“Enjoy the morning snorkeling”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 October 2012

Maui can get quite hot around midday and early afternoon so we took an early morning Snorkel with Ocean Project. This small team made you feel comfortable that they knew what they were doing and all ages and abilities were catered for. The morning run got us out and back (with lunch provided) by noon. Great snorkeling and plenty to see. A nice crew and a great start to the day.

“Highlight of Maui Vacation-Snorkeling with Mel www.theoceanproject.net”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 October 2012

Snorkeling with marine biologist Mel of the Ocean Project was the highlight of our August trip to Maui. We found Mel through Trip Advisor but it seems the site now has incorrect contact info for them. We contacted Mel via phone at 808-667-6706 (website is: www.theoceanproject.net and email is: oceanproject.maui@gmail.com). We met Mel at a location he advised us of the day before based on weather conditions. The whole experience was amazing - from Mel doing a one on one teaching session with our 8 year old son on the sand where he learned about coral, the sea life we would see as well as hand signs to use underwater when specific fish were spotted, to Mel working individually with my son, who had never snorkeled before, to teach the ins and outs of snorkeling. Mel provided wet suits for all of us, which really helped keep us warm on our 2+ hour snorkel. We were able to see an abundance of marine life, including a sea turtle who I think knows Mel on a first name basis, and were able to hold live sea urchins - something we would not have done on our own. Mel also takes great underwater photos of the whole experience. I would recommend this experience for any family visiting Maui - Mel is great!

“Snorkel trip & BBQ”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 October 2012

We booked a 1/2 day snorkel trip with Ocean Project over to the island of Lanai. Whilst the snorkelling spot at Lanai wasn't great the team that took us were excellent. Very professional, very friendly & personal. Safety was always a consideration & they had a caring approach to all of their guests on our trip. We saw two Dolphins on the way back to Mauii, the team stopped the boat to allow plenty of time for photographs. We then stopped at a 2nd snorkel spot close to the old wharf at Lahaina which was incredible. We were surrounded by Turtles & the coral was beautiful. Although this reef was young, it was abundant with life. Afterwards we returned to the boat for a BBQ lunch cooked by out team which was delicious. Would highly recommend !!!
