We recently completed an 18-day stay at Polynesian Shores. This was our 14th stay in the last 17 years at this lovely place. The units are individually owned and offer a peaceful, beautiful location to relax and enjoy Maui. The deck is unique on the island, and it is a wonderful gathering spot to visit with friends, watch whales and turtles during the day, enjoy sunset in the evening, or grill dinner while listening to ocean waves. The grounds are well maintained, with flowers, bushes, and flowering trees. Torches are lit each evening. These condos are not air -conditioned, but louvered windows and ceiling fans provide cooling breezes at night, and the open windows let you fall asleep to the sounds of the ocean. Julie, the manager, provides prompt service should any problems arise. This year our condo developed a plumbing problem during the weekend, but she sent professionals to the unit to solve the problem quickly. Much appreciated! Small but nice pool. Condos are just steps from the ocean, and you can see whales while eating dinner on the lanai. This property, on the western Maui shore, faces directly out to the islands of Lanai and Molokai, only steps away from the water. We have already scheduled our vacation for next year and will be eager to return to this amazing spot.

My family has stayed here numerous times. We have also stayed in other condos and hotels on Maui and we always come back to Polynesian Shores. Julie has always been helpful. I have requested particular units and always been given correct info and rates. I work for an airline and go to Maui as often as possible. We love to stay at Polynesian Shores and recommend it to others.

Since each unit is individually owned we were able to book ours directly from the owner. This complex is getting a bit dated. The grounds are beautifully kept, but there are signs of wear. The deck is very busy almost every evening and it's hard to grill with so many people there.
Our biggest problem was the WiFi service. We learned from the residents that it cost $10000 to install but we wonder what they installed. The service is slow and intermittent. When we inquired about it, the person in the office was kind of defensive and the explanation she gave us was pretty stupid. We wouldn't normally be all that concerned about getting service, but we had our teen with us and she needed to get some school assignments done. So booking a unit with WiFi was important this time. We were let down.

There is also no shade at the pool or on the deck.

I think we will look elsewhere next time we come to Maui.

We do understand your concerns with the wireless connection and apologize for any inconvenience that it caused you. The WI FI on property is complementary to all are guest and was installed 5 years ago. We do sometimes have problems with connections as it is a wireless connection. We have up graded our system 3 times in the last 2 years and have just finished installing new antenna’s to assure the best service for our guest.

Polynesian Shores is an AAA approved property for over 30 years now. We do have a yearly inspection from AAA where they inspect not only the inside of the condos but also the grounds and building structures.

There are three gas grills located down on a beautiful “tiki deck” located on the ocean unfortunately we cannot reserve the grills for the guest so it is a first come, first serve basis. There is sometimes a wait time of 5 or 10 minutes in our high season which is from 12/15-4/15. February is a very busy month and we do have many guests enjoying our “tiki deck”.

Similarly to my fellow traveller below, I would have love to have booked at this resort based on their website and a conversation with one of the condo owners.

My experience in attempting to book at this property was very similar to the last reviewer. I found that rates were not clear and by searching properties on sites like VRBO and others, they showed vacancy. However, none of my email or phone inquiries were answered so I finally was able to reach Julie on the phone to inquire to their vacancies. She curtly told me they were full and when I quoted property listing numbers that showed vacancy on VRBO she quipped "I said we are full - we don't update our availability on these sites."

A very frustrating and time consuming experience - it was certainly not the friendly attitude that was marketed on their site.

February is the busiest month of the year on Maui and we do receive numerous inquiries daily for different dates requested for that month. Our policy is to return phone calls and emails when we do have space available or know of a property in the neighborhood that would be able to accommodate the dates requested. The rates posted on our properties web site and the vrbo web site does reflex current rates being offered. You would need to click into “rates” on either web site to view the prices for the condos. The availability calendars offered on the vrbo web site are not something that we use. In the past they were not able to view. Thank you for letting us know that they were visible to see, I have spoke with vrbo and they will remove the calendars for us.

We rented a condo with VRBO for a week. The unit 114 was clean, very functional with a beautiful view of the ocean and amazing sunset. There's a warm clean pool and flowers everywhere. The BBQ area is in front of the ocean with seating places. There's a small reef beach, great for snorkling with fish and turtles. The farmer's market 3X /week is down the road and is a great place to get fresh local produces. Wi-Fi worked well all the time. We had a great vacation week in Maui and we would go back to this place.

Polynesian Shores is a gem! We rented the 3 bedroom/3 bathroom unit. The location is the best location in Maui. The view was awesome! The condo was clean & comfortable. It had all the amenities we needed. The neighbors were quite. The beach had turtles & you could snorkel at the beach. The staff was friendly & helpful. Although there was no a/c, it was not needed because Maui is very breezy & you wouldn' want to close windows because the sound & smell of the ocean is heavenly. What more could you ask? We definitely recommend Polynesian Shores to everyone.

This place was fantastic for our family. We knew what would be there and what we found was great. There is no beach which was fine for us. The deck and bbq area for watching whales and turtles every day was perfect. We packed a cooler and went to a different beach nearby every day. There was snorkling and even surfing from the condo waterfront but we did more of that stufff elsewhere. The pool is smallish but fine for the number of units and you can see it and the ocean from the room. The Safeway in Lahina was close for groceries and had all we needed after the first day stop at Costco by the airport. Nice room (#116) and the grounds were impecably maintained each day. The kitchen was great and well stocked with dishes, pots, utinsils, and basic spices etc... We will be back and we will stay here again. Good mix of people while we were there and quiet hours were followed.
