The food in this joint was bad. My wife could not eat hers. Mine was just barely adequate but badly overpriced. Two tables around us had a problem with their bill. The bill was immediately replaced with the correct bill but how many people just pay without closely examining the tab. I ended up paying way more than I should have. Besides substandard food, the place was noisy and the staff appeared disorganized. With all the restaurants on Maui there really isn't a reason to patronize this one.

We just returned from a destination wedding party in Maui. As the mother of the groom, I arranged the rehearsal dinner. We were seeking an experience much different from the more formal wedding.
Kahana Sands Restaurant turned out to be perfect. It is an open air restaurant (with a roof, which we wanted in the unlikely case of rain) that looks out over a pool and the beach. We had 27 people and we were set up on one side of the restaurant (with a divider between) . We stood and mingled during cocktails and watched the sunset. We were seated during the rest of the meal in the 5 tables of 6 that I requested - - very comfortably set up. White tablecloths with exotic flower petals sprinkled on top and candlelight, with the view toward the ocean. The service was attentive. The food was wonderful (Raul Bermudez is the owner/executive chef). The ambience was perfect.
They were very flexible with the menu and arrangements - - even said the 2 children could swim in the pool if they chose.
The wine list was a bit limited, but we were able to find a red and white the guests enjoyed. We went a few days early and sampled all the wines to choose the ones we would offer. For a little over $2,000 we fed 27 people a 4 course dinner with 3 choices of entrees (steak, salmon or chicken) and open bar (we limited the options to beer, wine or mai tais plus most other non-alcoholic drinks). This included tip and tax. This was very reasonable for Maui and the quality of food and service we received.
We would highly recommend this restaurant for any meal, but especially for an informal wedding reheasal dinner.
