The views are amazing! The room extremely comfortable and clean. We enjoyed the breakfasts as there is always plenty of delicious food for a vegetarian (or not)! Dan and Amy were very helpful with dining suggestions and where to find vegetarian lunches or dinners. The inn is one of the best B&B's we have stayed in.

My daughter and I stayed at Ho’olio House in early March 2012. Our stay was serene and pleasant from beginning to end. Each night we had a restful sleep and woke each morning ready to start our day. The outdoor shower was amazing. The breakfast served was yummy and filling. We usually took our home baked muffins for a snack later on in the day. Another nice addition was the daily fresh baked bread. Dan and Amy are gracious hosts and were there to answer any of our needs. The property is inviting and beautiful. We sat in the community area at night and had tea/coffee and snacks before retiring. Ho-olio House was a great central location from which we visited different parts of the island each day. I highly recommend Ho-olio House as a place to stay. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: We stated in the Kipuka room. It was fantastic.

If you want to be away from the crowds in magnificent accommodations, this is the place for you. Ideal for couples wanting to get away to relax or pack your day with great day trips. Highlights are the outdoor showers in your private bath while listening to the birds or watching the stars and fabulous breakfasts. Thanks Dan and Amy for your hospitality and tips on seeing the fantastic sites that Maui has to offer.

Amy and Dan at Ho'oilo House make this B&B special. It is an adult get away and perfect for people looking to get away from the city without being too far out. It is quaint, cozy, relaxing, and just what my mom and I were looking for on our trip to Maui. It's a place to relax and unwind and enjoy the views. Every morning, I was greeted with a sunny outdoor shower and a fresh breakfast of fruit, yogurt, island granola, eggs, and homemade muffins and bread. Amy and Dan are Vegan/Vegetarian-friendly and can accommodate special breakfast requests. There is also 24-hour loose leaf tea and coffee available. Amy and Dan are friendly and full of fun suggestions of places to go and sites to see. The free wi-fi/intranet was useful and much appreciated. PERFECT place for a nice vacation. I can't wait to go back and stay in one of the other rooms to see what they have to offer.

Room Tip: All rooms are unique and special.

We enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing 3 nights at this beautiful bed and breakfast. Dan and Amy are fabulous hosts and everything was perfect! We enjoyed wonderful yummy breakfasts each morning poolside and there is nothing quite like an outdoor shower with blue skies, ocean view and beautiful birdsong!

Once you pass between the magnificent carved doors of Ho'oilo House, you are stepping into a tranquil oasis! The entire property is beautifully decorated, creating an artful and serene atmosphere. No detail has been overlooked in providing an unforgettable experience. The natural beauty that is Hawaii surrounds this property-early morning rainbows, misty green mountains, ocean views and remarkable sunsets. The mouth watering breakfasts are superb and can be enjoyed on your lanai or around the pool area. The "music" of the water flowing from three large bowels into the pool lulls you into a relaxed state. This property is by far one of the most relaxing spots. It is a perfect spot to de-stress and just just be! There in December and can't wait until our return in April!!

Room Tip: Honu is magnificent. Private, great views of ocean and mountains. Oh the tub and the outside shower...

Chances are, if you book at Ho'oilo House, you're looking for a tropical escape away from the crowded resorts of Lahaina and that is just what you'll get at this stunning property. It is a meticulously decorated and maintained sanctuary just a 10 minute drive outside downtown Lahaina. It truly is a hidden gem, so well-removed that you may not see it immediately up the very long shared driveway, but don't despair: you just have to follow the road all the way to the top and it's there on the right.

When we arrived on January 4, Amy and Dan - the famed owners - were away on vacation so they left their Uncle Hal in charge. He was more than helpful upon arrival when we reiterated my dietary restrictions for breakfast, then he graciously left us to our honeymoon business. You won't be hounded here like some other B&B's to take part in communal anything, thank goodness. This is truly "our house is your house" and you can come and go as you please. In fact, we never even saw the other guests the entire four night stay even though they were totally full!

Some standouts: the palatial suites have lovely touches like antique furnishings. We stayed in Nalu with the Chinese Wedding Bed (rather crib-like but cool) and the outdoor shower looked over Lanai in the distance. What more could you ask for, showering with 180 degree views of the Pacific? This is an Eco-friendly B&B so they aren't big on fresh towels every day unless requested. Breakfasts are healthy and delicious and usually include muffins, fruit, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, coffee and fresh juices. If you're off early on an excursion, they will pack you a breakfast to-go and put it in your room by 9:00 PM the previous night. Now THAT is aloha. The landscaping was so perfect, we actually felt like we were in some Merchant Ivory film set in the South Pacific.

The experience at Ho'oilo House is unique in the Hawaiian Islands - and on Maui, especially - so do yourself a favor and consider not staying at one of the monster resorts in Kaanapali and book this tranquil slice of Bali instead.

Room Tip: Stay in the "back" of the house, facing the ocean (Nalu or Honu, I believe). The ocean vi...
