“Wonderful stay at Kahana Villas!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 December 2012

I never write reviews, but after reading all the negative reviews, I feel compelled to say something. We were VERY happy with our 2BR, 2 Bath condo (the photo shown above is not the right photo). We rented from Kaanapali Beach Properties (great service!!) and had side by side condos (E609 and E610) for our family of four and our good friends' family of four. The kids loved running back in forth between the two condos and playing. We had everything we needed and more for our two week vacation. Condos were nicely maintained, clean and well equipped with full kitchen, laundry, beach toys, beach towels, ice cooler, beach chairs, movies, books. The A/C was great, we were never too hot as some reviewers noted. We loved the full ocean views from the two-story, floor to ceiling windows and sitting out on the lanai. Almost every night we walked with the kids to the nearby McDonalds for ice cream or across to Kahana beach and looked at the sea turtles. We loved trying out the different beaches in West Maui but I think Napili beach was our favorite and it was only a few minutes drive away. The pool was pretty small and located in the parking lot, but the kids loved it (and the "hot pool") and we used the BBQ grills often. This resort offers a great value for those staying longer in Maui. I did a LOT of research for this trip and at $135/night, this was by far the best price I could find for nice 2BR, 2BA ocean view condos in West Maui. We could have squeezed into a 1BR condo, but the extra bedroom was by all means worth it with two young kids. We were very pleased with our accomodations and the service from Kaanapali Beach Properties.

Room Tip: Rent units E609 or E610 from Kaanapali Beach Properties! Both are very nice!

I read the online reviews and was a little apprehensive. We had a booking issue with our regular timeshare and needed a place for one night. The manager and staff went out of their way to accomodate us. The unit was clean and comfortable. Thanks to both Jim and Missy. You were great.

I did read the reviews before we travelled. But, each unit is individually owned, so you never know for sure what you are getting. We had a 1 bedroom unit in building E, the middle building on floor 3. Partial ocean view from the lanai. 1 air conditioning unit in living room only, set to 72 but my thermometer always said 77. The bedroom had a wonderful ceiling fan but was always 79 and 80, even with the windows open for the tradewinds. I wasn't expecting to always be hot! The pool was the only way to cool down. It is across the st. from the beach, you can use the public beach access, but there aren't facilities across the st. for guests use. We had ants when we arrived in the kitchen, a man came and sprayed, they were better after, but still had a few. I used bleach wipes, that helped only a little. The dryer hadn't been vacuumed in forever, it had lots of lint, so I cleaned it out myself because I was afraid of fire! The unit is older. The furniture was comfortable, except the bed, it was really uncomfortable, no support. We used RCI to exchange to go to Maui, won't stay here again however.

Room Tip: Some of the 2 bedrooms suites had all the bedrooms upstairs and the ac was downstairs, heard complai...

This was our 3rd stay at this complex and we found the 2br 2 bath units to be very comfortable.Yes the only ac unit is in the lr but if you keep it gong all day the upstairs isn't all that bad. Pool area and spa area are always clean and not very crowded, the beach across the street is great for swimming and for snorkling, saw some turtles over near the rocky side of the beach. The location is great, close to lahaina and to shopping and lots of places to eat.The units could use a little paint inside and some updating but for the price they aren't bad. As a timeshare owner here we have been satisfied with these units.

Room Tip: units in the E building are noisey from the road noise so ask for a different building if possible

Thank you for making us your home on Maui. We appreciate your ownership and hope you will enjoy your resort for years to come. Our spacious two-bedroom unit is more than 1,300 square feet and includes a full kitchen, washer-dryer and lanai. Resort grounds include a tennis court, hot tub and barbecue area for your playing, relaxing and grilling pleasure. We appreciate your feedback on our units. A renovation is in the works. Thank you for sharing your comments. We hope to see you again soon.

We were a little leary due to some of the previous reviews read on this site and others. Driving up it didn't look that bad. Friendly desk staff checked us in and gave some info on upcoming events at the property. We drove up to our room in the "E" building unit 301 and upon entry we noticed the room was run down. Being terrified of bed bugs we immediately start searching for any signs of the little critters. We start with the sofa bed in the living room, we moved the sofa and luckily did not find bed bugs but we did find about 50 dead bugs. Clearly the cleaning crew does not move furniture to clean behind it. Now we head for the bedroom and move the bed no bed bugs but more dead bugs and someone's medication that had fallen. No cleaning done here either. We decide to give it a try for the night after we clean up all the carcasses. Between people constantly talking outside the room, the noise from the highway, the poor excuse for curtains and a car alarm going off multiple times in the parking lot we might have gotten about 2 hours of sleep. Not to mention the AC exhaust sucks in the smell of food from surrounding condos. You can hear people talking through the walls, turning on faucets, showering, flushing the toilet - the list goes on. To top it all off early in the morning (6:30) a charming gentleman and his family decide to drag their luggage down 3 flights of stairs. When we asked him to kindly use the elevator if they have more luggage we were basically flipped the bird and told "yeah whatever." At this point we have had enough. My boyfriend headed to the front desk and asked to change rooms to a different building. The only unit available - the one next door. After saying that was unacceptable the clerk called a different resort and was able to move us to a different resort that is on the water and not anywhere near a freeway.

Room Tip: If you are going to stay here try to get in building F and stay on a higher floor.

We are sorry we didn’t meet your expectations. Please accept our apology for the housekeeping issue. Us leaving dead bugs behind falls well below our standard. Regarding bugs in general, unfortunately one of the benefits of having a resort in a tropical climate is also one of the drawbacks. The weather attracts both people and insects. Hotels as well as homes in Hawaii fight a continuous battle with the various critters that thrive in our wet environment (one of the wettest on the planet). We spray quarterly for bugs (and more often when necessary). Our E building is closest to the freeway and is subject to more noise. We were happy to move you to another resort. Thank you for sharing your comments. We appreciate the feedback and will strive to do better.

Had a HORRIBLE 3 days at Kahana Villas (Unit E-314) before management moved us to a decent resort and saved us from this timeshare from Hell!! This place looks like no maintenance has been done inside the unit since it was built in the 1970's -- broken blinds in 2 rooms, sofabed mattress just a piece of cloth with wire coils, lanai windows too gross to see through, pure rust bath fixtures, unsafe TV wiring (polarized, 3-prong plug in a 2-prong extension cord). I could go on but you get the picture. The office to this place was never open no matter how many times we tried to contact them. On the third day we returned from the beach to find the LOCKS had been changed throughout the building but guests had not been notified!! We were tired, sandy and in need of our bathroom. Of course the office was closed and we eventually learned we had to go to another resort to pick up new keys. The manager knew how shabby the place was and offered us a beautiful suite in a nearby resort. He saved our vacation. He also said there was some rennovation planned -- I suggested demolition instead! Aviod Kahana Villas !!!!

We scheduled 4 nights and regretted it the moment we checked in. We stayed in unit E 401 which is located next to the highway. The unit is a 2 story condo (bedrooms located upstairs) and the AC is on the first floor. Heat rises, so we were uncomforatable from the outset. The unit had a very "musky" smell; my guess is that the AC unit drips water into the carpet..regardless, it still smells. NOTE: the master bedroom isn't really a private room-- it is instead a loft set-up that opens into the downstairs living room. In addition, the linens and towels are old and well-used. Our family of 5 learned of the small water tank after some of us took cold showers the first night. I typically stay at Marriott Courtyards (frequent business travel)-- I don't think I am a hotel snob. I would have been elated to have had Kahana Villa Resorts meet that standard. I was so disappointed that we left after the 2nd night and I used Marriott points to escape. I completely wasted my RCI points for this exchange...Vacationing in Maui is expensive anyway, don't waste $$ staying here. Even the pool is a bust.

Room Tip: 1. Don't stay here. 2. Don't stay in Bldg E.

Thank you for sharing your comments. We are disappointed we didn’t meet your expectations. We are investigating the issue with the air conditioning unit and hope to locate the source of the problem causing the musky smell. It is our pleasure (and preference) to attend to difficulties while you are visiting. Our spacious two-bedroom, two-bath condominium is 1,337 square feet and contains a full kitchen, private balcony and lanai. We are sorry the design left you wanting, but can tell you we are preparing for a renovation. Thank you once again for your review. We appreciate the feedback.
