Yes it's cheap and it's on the beach in the west of Maui but it's also a filthy dump. Like other people's hair in your shower? Then stay here. The corridors look like a long stay motel and even the guy who checked us in seemed to feel sorry for us. Don't stay here - find a nice b&b for the same price.

Our room was oceanfront, but it overlooked the luau- not really a bad thing, we were usually in Lahaina, and it was ending when we got home. The first 3 days housekeeping didn't even wash our glasses or coffee cups, but then the staff must have changed, because we had clean cups! The room was run down, but clean. Service at the Royal Lahaina was great, good food in the restaurant with decent prices for Maui! There are two nice pools with a little bar, no icemaker in Ocean Inn, so you have to get your ice from Royal Lahaina-must of the time we just did without! All in all, it was a good value, and I would stay there again. It helped that I read other Tripadvisor reviews, so knew what to expect.

This hotel was perfect for us, its part of a group of hotels next to each other so you get all the "nice" hotel perks without the crazy price. We were upgraded to a new room for free and we loved our stay. This is right on the beach so you can walk right to it from your room. Theres also a great selection of places to eat since youre close to so many hotels. Theres a great one where you can actually eat "on the sand". I would go back here right away and I plan on staying here again the next time we go.

Room Tip: Ask them to upgrade you to the renovated rooms!

Part of the Royal Lahaina Resort, this is their cheaper accommodation, but I would choose it again over their more expensive accommodation. It is literally right next door and all the facilities of the resort are available to you. It is situated right on the beach and overlooking (if you're lucky) the royal lahaina luau (which is meant to be one of the best). There is a small food store in the resort open til late (11 or 12) I case you need a late night snack or drink. Otherwise there is a couple of shops 5-10 min walk CJ's and a great pizza joint with free wifi (as the resort wifi and Internet is expensive) then another 5-10 min walk is the Whaler's Shopping centre which has heaps of cute shops but still very quaint looking. You could spend your whole holiday in a 1km radius if you wanted to! There is a free shuttle from the resort to Whalers every half hour and a bus to lahaina every half hour is only $1. The dream! The best beaches on the island are Kaanapali, at your door step! Pop your head under the water during the whale season and you can hear them singing, or you can just stand on the beach and see them breaching! We were really happy with this place, basic, clean and probably the best price considering we could use all the resorts facilities, with every thing we needed. A word to the wise though, most restaurants/ eateries close at 8 or 9 so dont leave dinner til the last min like I do. And while the staff are all pleasant, our favourite was the gentleman who drove us to our room in a golf car (taking us on a tour of the resort on our way-sorry we didn't catch his name) and the gorgeous staff working in the activities centre beside the pool.

My worst Maui hotel experience ever! Very old building looks as if it is slated for demolition soon. Bugs in the bath and kitchen area. Old mattresses (which they did give me a feather bed, which certainly helped). Pesticide and moth ball odors thruout (had to launder everything when I returned home). Paper thin walls, I knew everything my neighbors were up to. Luau every night, which was very very loud. And the most unfortunate is my neighbors key fit my door, on 3 occasions I had someone trying to get into my room, fortunately there was an added security latch. Nothing positive to say except the maid service was exceptional, lovely ladies. I would not recommend this place to anyone!!!

We stayed at the Ka anapali Ocean Inn in January for 10 days. The rooms are dated, but there is nothing else that you could say against this old hotel. It is connected to the Royal Lahaina Hotel and so you can use their pool and the bar and the restaurants. The beach is one of the few that is not crowded and it is just steps from your door. We used the beach and the pool everyday and they provide beach towel service. The staff is great and the maid service was wonderful. For the price we paid, this is a real gem.

This is one of the cheapest hotels you will find in Ka'anapali, so you can't expect to get the high end class. We were upgraded to an ocean view room, which was very nice, but not surprisingly, was just near the party area, with a noisy employee party till late evening, the Saturday we arrived and needed the rest, and with early evening daily Lu'au parties. If you like the show, you get it for free from your balcony, minus the food...
The great thing about this hotel, is surely it's location, just "on" the beach. two steps out of your room, and you are walking on the beautiful sandy beach. On the downside, a few things to be aware of, and if you don't mind them, you can enjoy a nice vacation in Maui, for an affordable price.
1) Rooms are dated, old style green carpets, and bit shabby bath room area.
2) Mattress is old and not very comfortable.
3) No wireless Internet in rooms, and when in the main resort lobby, Internet beyond one hour is for $10/day.
4) No microwave in the room, which I always found kind of silly, since a cheap microwave costs one third of a single night rate.
5) When we checked in, I got a nice printed paper with the dates of our stay, to put on the dashboard of our car, showing the people in charge that we are eligible to park in the parking area. What they did not bother to tell us, is that we will be charged upon checkout $10/day for this parking.

Bottom line - for budget travelers, this is not a bad choice. If you are willing to pay average Maui rates, you can probably do better.
