The grounds were beautiful here and the room was one of the biggest we had ever stayed in. The location was wonderful. It was close to all sorts of shopping and many restaurants. The room needed some updating but if you're like us and don't spend much time in it, then its fine. We didn't use the beach here because it was a bit small
so we traveled to others.

Bah, humbug to all those that submitted negative reviews re: Aston Kannapalli Shores resort in Maui.
My family (10 members) spent 6/26-7/6 at the Kannapalli Shores and had a great time. Let's talk about all the negative things first. None to speak of. Positive things: Henry at the front desk made everything great and so did Alexis in the restaurant. Housekeeping was always cheerful and always came early in the day, which was appreciated. The hotel is remodeling but construction is not intrusive. You are a few steps from the beach, and there were kids playing, folks working on their tans, plenty of lounge chairs and the views were beautiful. If you wanted to play volleyball on the beach, or didn't think it was large enough, there were so many beaches nearby that you would need a month to visit all of them. All 5 of the one-bedroom ocean-view units that our family occupied were updated, all equipment worked and 10 folks were happy. Asked a few folks that we met if they had read negative reviews and they stated yes, but they could find no evidence of bugs, poor housekeeping or a noisy facility. This is a great resort for families, close to everything, washer/dryer in unit is great if travelling with kids, all equipment necessary to make life easier was there (pots/pans detergent for dishwasher etc., and everything worked. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone thinking of going to Maui. Reminder: disappointment has two components: what you expect and what you get. I expected a great facility and I had a great time. Oh, this was our second visit and we will return.

This is a very average complex when you start comparing it to other Maui properties, especially around the Kaanapali/Kapalua area. The beach is not condusive to beach activity at all, particularly with children. Everyday we drove to the main beach at Kaanapali to the front of the Whaler. We did this because of the rocky and merky condition of the water to the front of our condo.

I thought the price was OK, although we did get a water front (703) 2 bed 2 bath condo for $370. This room was well decorated and I believe recently updated. Our friends oceanfront condo (401) was seriously outdated and not very clean. Also, the elevator doors had vandalism on them, I highly doubt that other top rate properties would allow that to exist more than a day.

One thing I am suprised that no one mentioned was the vent from the restaurant which sits in the middle of the complex. The vent is not turned off until late at night and even stayed on all night on one evening. The vent sounds like a vacuum cleaner and was louder than the waves, which were not too far from our room. I complained to the front desk twice about the noise, the response was; "yeah, other people have complained also but I think it is on a timer." (???)

We stayed at the Aston Waikiki Beach Tower in Honolulu and that property was far superior for the same price. Next time, we will stay on the main beach in the Whaler or Sheraton...

We stayed here at the Aston property in May and when we checked in, we were in a two bedroom one bath condo. Though living and kitchen areas were spacious, I thought the bathroom was VERY small, had no air vent, and became very stuffy while in use. We then upgraded to an oceanfront two bedroom suite (#601) with wrap around lanai. This was A LOT better than the regular condo, however the bathroom was still the small, no air vent, bathroom. The master bedroom's bathroom was just the opposite--large and spacious. We also encountered bug problems, such as small beetles, even though we expected bugs given the age of the building and the close location to the ocean. Great cable tv though! This is a good place to stay if you don't plan on staying in the rooms all day. It's not a bad place to stay, but a little updating to the place would make a difference

The location of the hotel was wonderful and the grounds are always kept beautifully. The pools are nice and it really is a great location with the beach being just steps away!

We were a little concerned after booking our trip here and reading all the negative reviews, but were pleasantly surprised by the resort. It's in a great location on the beach, close by to everything. The resort itself is not the Ritz-Carlton, but you don't necessarily need that when you go to Maui. The rooms were well equipped and we actually had a "partial ocean view" on the 9th floor that turned out to be a beautiful, sweeping view of Molokai and the beach below! There's a shopping center right across the way for groceries, and the pools and jacuzzis, restaurant, bar, etc. were all wonderful. We plan on returning and would gladly stay at the Aston again! For the price, you cannot go wrong on this property.
