Our ocean view 2 bedroom was extremely nice. The pool area is awesome, and the location on the strip near Whaler's Village can't be beat. The snorkeling at Blackrock is as good as anywhere.

We traveled to Maui 25 years after our honeymoon with our teenage daughters, and wanted to make sure to get all the details right. Researched hotels and condos for about a month before booking the Kaanapali Alii. Could not have been a better choice for us. View from balcony was so beautiful, even I was speechless. From the moment we arrived at the front desk, to the time we checked out, we found the staff to be helpful and friendly, the facilities to be immaculately maintained, and even the weather was perfect! (Truth be told, we have pretty high expectations of things, and this property was amazing!) When we arrived, the front desk had accommodated all my requests in our condo. Our balcony looked over the pool and out to the ocean. The first night, after the time change, I was up at 3:30am, went out to the lanai and watched the millions of stars. There were a few lights still on around the pool-even in the middle of the night it was beautiful. They light the pool with blue lights, so you can see, but it does not detract from the view. Each evening they light tiki torches all along the beach so you can walk after dinner. There are 6 or 8 barbcue grills near the pool area for the residents to use. We picked up some burgers and grilled them, and onions and some pineapple (we bought at a roadside stand). The grills were VERY clean and used propane for a nice, fast and even heat. Our kitchen had grill tools, and at the pool area they had a big box with foil, paper plates, paper napkins, plastic silverware, cups, and they were able to bring us some ketchup and mustard packets. I think that was the best meal-grilling on the beach as the sun went down. The pool loans you towels, so we picked up 8 of them. When we snorkeled (Use Snorkel Bob's to rent gear) had a couple for the sand, a few to dry off, and one over the steering wheel to keep it from getting too hot. When we came back, just dropped off those towels and got new ones for the next day's adventure. (Make sure and do the zipline at Maui Tropical Plantation-safety is very important to them, and the zipline is over the beautiful plantation!) One smart thing I did, we packed up a cardboard box with breakfast cereal, our snorkel gear-only two of us needed to rent gear-snack foods, and sunscreen-checked it thru the airline just like a suitcase. Saved a ton of money over Maui prices for those items. Then went to the Safeway for blueberries, bananas and milk for breakfast, and bought sandwich stuff for our snorkel days. Snorkel Bob's rents softside coolers-make an ice pack by freezing a water bottle (drink some before freezing!). Note: if you are looking for a property just for sleeping, this is not for you. If you want to have a beautiful beach, couple pools, wonderful facilities (they loan you tennis rackets and balls for their courts-but we didn't have time), friendly and helpful staff, then you should stay here. The level of detail...they even have towels right at the entrance to the buildings that you can use to wipe the sand off your feet before going in, and have a number of elevators, so we never waited more than 1 minute or two for one. All the windows have screens, so you can let the island breeze in to almost any room. Just a wonderful property!

Room Tip: Coming from the midwest and loving the ocean, we went for an ocean view room. I called the property...

This resort is in a terrific location! The atmosphere really welcoming. The staff was very service focused and left you alone when you wanted to be left alone. The pool area is not the quality of the Westin but well maintained and serviced the purpose for our family including two teenage boys. The fact that you can walk out the door and have great restaurants and sporting activity including surfing in either direction was a real advantage. The beach is one of the best we have ever been at = what great sand! We travel a lot and really enjoyed everything this facility had to offer EXCEPT the room itself.

We stayed in Condo 116. We paid for a two bedroom ocean front condo. Since, we paid for the upgrade to oceanfront you would think it would be great. The condo itself was in a perfect location - it was on the ground floor and we literally walked out the condo to the beach. That is about all this condo had to offer. The condo had an odor in the second bedroom. It was musty/mold smell - nothing got rid of the odor and it impacted the trip. (Trust me it was not a little oder was gagging type). The furniture was early mid-80's, the beds were awful in the guest room and the sleeper sofa was unusable. The kitchen was good and newly updated but the rest of this place needed major work. I really hold the management company responsible for this issue. It was really clear that numerous guests before us had the same issue since it was mentioned in the guest book many times. It is management company's responsibility to make sure the units are up to par to be rented - they really failed. We could take the older furniture but the beds and odor were ridiculous - this unit should not be rented unless these issues are fixed.

I would stay at the Alli again but not in this unit unless it was updated.

Stayed there for a week and had a great time. Our condo was huge for two of us and all the facilities e.g washing machine, cooking stuff etc were modern and met out needs. The gym was really well equipped which made a difference to my stay. Overall the location is ideal with the beach a stones throw away and restaurants and shops a minute or so walk. I thought having no bar would be annoying however on arrival we were given a guest pass. This meant we could go to any of the other hotel bars e.g Sheraton, Hyatt etc and charge to your room - problem solved. All in all a great place for your Maui stay.

I had a blast in Kaanapili Alli, it was so much fun and you were treated like royalty. I was there for a week and every day I swam in the ocean and the cool pool that changes colors at night. They have grills If you want to grill at night and so many shops at Whallers Village. It was the experence of a lifetime with a stay of a lifetime!

LOVED the condo... and the entire grounds. We had a beautiful 2 bd 2 ba ocean view ( Unit 456) on the 5th floor with a stunning ocean view overlooking the lovely pool area. The unit was exceptional, professionally decorated with high end furniture, beds, linens, appliances and decor. The kitchen had ALL the comforts of home with excellent dinnerware, glassware, cookware etc.... everything I needed was available. Plenty of random dry condiments, spices and misc cooking essentials. EXCELLENT location to view the gorgeous sunsets in the evening or just gaze out over the ocean anytime. Situated on site to enjoy balmy winds but not have everything blowing around on the lanai. Quiet, private and pleasant environment. Pool area was never overcrowded, has towel service and plenty of lounges. Pools are well kept and enjoyable. GREAT BBQ area overlooking the ocean 30 foot from shore, that we took advantage of several nights just because we loved the atmosphere and feeling that we were at home. EVERYONE, guests and staff were delightful. We were welcomed on arrival with 5 star greetings and service. Concierge was exceptional, well versed on ALL the best vacation activities. EVERY event they arranged for us was GREAT. We ziplined, did a doors off helicopter tour, parasailed, snorkeled and on our last night we did the Gemini sunset cocktail tour and it was a perfect way to end our trip....out on the ocean, watching the sunset. By the way, the Gemini crew and craft were exceptional. We launched right from shore a short walk from our condo. Beach has direct access off pool area, excellent for playing in the water. Rented paddle boards and had a blast. It was great to sit on the beach after dark, (well lit from the condos) and shared quality time reflecting on the day/life events with our adult kids.

Two things I would recommend against. We were excited about the free photo shoot offered at the ALII on arrival as I was already planning to arrange for a beach shoot with a photographer I saw online, but I was sadly disappointed when I went to select the photos as the pictures captured were not that great. I was able to pick out 7 shots that I could enjoy and ordered them because I was intent on having the photos to complete my memory book but was not really happy with the whole experience as we had to take time out of our vacation for the shoot and to review the proofs and the photographer did a poor job at the shoot, all while telling us how great we all looked. NOT... The second thing I would highly recommend is to AVOID the WESTIN. Their staff are rude, condescending and their prices are unreasonable for what they offer. But don't let that bother you because there are more than enough other places to enjoy.......We will return again and will arrange our visit to dates around getting the same unit. Aloha and Mahalo to ALL the wonderful staff at the Kaanapali Alii!!

We've been here three days now, and are enjoying the experience. Everyone is nice, and the resort is overall kept up nicely. As did others, we used a Costco package deal for this trip. Things to keep in mind include the following. We're here in low season, and see that the pool area can get crowded early when the resort is full. There is no poolside beverage service, and poolside/room service is from a limited menu from the adjacent Westin.

The condos are not all alike, as each owner puts his/her touches on their unit. Ours features dated furnishings which are OK at best. Part of the appeal of a condo is being able to prepare meals instead of going out for everything. The resort has 8 grills in a well-maintained area, and you can dine in an adjacent covered area. However, the utensils and such in our unit's kitchen are marginal at best; if you come here to cook, as we did, you'll be disappointed; I'm glad I brought a good knife. The bare minimum of cheap glassware and utensils are usable, but only just so. Bring your own spices and such to save hassle. And forget Safeway; go a mile north to the Times Supermarket, and half a mile past that to the fish market.

Maid service is good and efficient. The rooms have high-speed internet connections, but wireless sucks unless you are on your Lanai or at the pool; they need to upgrade service here. And if you have young kids, be aware that the pool set ups for kids at the adjacent Marriott and Westin are far superior to the Ali'i.

So would we return? Likely, as despite my gripes, it's a nice place, but there are other places we'll try first. The main point of this review is to let you know about the stuff that's not obvious in the literature. You can have a great time here if you are prepared.

Room Tip: See if you can select a unit with the specific features you desire for your stay.
