“Absolutely wonderful!”
Reviewed 24 June 2013 via mobile

We just finished a 7 night stay and absolutely loved the Alii. Location and beach cannot be beat. Just a 3 minute walk to Whalers Village and a 10 minute walk to great snorkeling at Black Rock. The staff here are so friendly- particularly the valets and the grill masters. We took advantage of the grilling area 2 nights and both grill masters were friendly, fun and advised us on ways to improve our meal.

We were in condo 173. It was a 2 bedroom ocean view. It was beautiful. We had 2 adults and 2 teens. We were very pleasantly surprised that the pull out couch is basically a 3rd bedroom with doors separate from the living room. So it really works as a 3 bedroom. You also have a great view if the Westin pools and nightly Luau.

Our only minor complaints were that the master bedspread was quite stained and the bed is incredibly hard. A bit hard to get time in the hit tub do to all he kids.

We would definitely stay again.

We had read all the reviews and had looked at several videos on You tube, so we hoped/expected a high end condo. When we arrived we were told we would be on the first floor, we wanted an ocean view, so we asked to be changed. We were shown a couple of condo's and decided on the 8th floor. There were dirty towels in the bath, dirty dishes in the sink and the dishwasher and we did not think the sheets had been changed, so we had to ask for housekeeping to come clean. At first we were told that the housekeeper had left for the day and that we would have to take the first floor condo and move the next day. We had been flying all day and expressed that this was not acceptable. Two members of the staff came and cleaned, they were very kind and did not seem to mind. The view of the ocean was gorgeous, but the condo was somewhat outdated (white appliances, tile on the kitchen counters and carpet). We did enjoy the space as this worked well for us. On the last day we were told there was an orientation session, we knew nothing of this. We were not really shown anything about the property when we arrived, this area may need some attention. We have stayed at the Hyatt and Honua Kai, Kaanapali Alii, was not as nice as these two properties. One thing we certainly enjoyed was the foot towels, they helped so much with sandy feet. Another plus was Clifford, the guy that helped with our chairs @ the beach. He was so nice...he needs a raise, we loved him. We also felt a little mislead regarding the grill master, several days we called to see when he would be available, the front desk did not seem to know. One day they told us he would be there by 5, he wasn't at 5:30, so we grilled on our own.
The location on the beach was wonderful....
I think staying here would be hit or miss, don't believe everything on the website, or at least this was our experience. I doubt we will stay here again, I think the Hyatt is calling our names.

Room Tip: Room 282 is outdated.

Loved the location and amenities at the Alii. We came before the summer rush and were always able to find chairs at the pools, a grill for cooking and tables. We grilled at the BBQ most evenings and were able to push together tables to fit all 11 in our party. There is an herb garden and two rolling carts with supplies by the grills. They hold spices, paper plates, paper cups, etc. We learned on our last night that a grill master was starting the next night. They only staff during busy season. Often watched and took pictures of the sunset on the beach. Loved that beach wasn’t very crowded. Snorkeled from the beach at Black Rock around 6am many mornings and saw a wide variety of creatures including turtles and a shark as well as gorgeous fish. The concierge at the pool, Wendy, was extremely helpful making recommendations for excursions and booking them for us. Men loved the golf courses across the street. Beach walk was great and I used it every morning to walk to Starbucks or Whalers Village. We had three families in our group and two of us booked through VRBO and one booked through Costco. Although floor plans were the same, how they were stocked and serviced varied widely. I made the mistake of booking through an owner that does not provide any services. The few hundred we saved was not worth it. We had to wash and dry our beach towels nightly (2 hours to dry in small dryer). We did not get maid service at all and the quality of the sheets and paper products was worthy of a cheap motel, not a high class condo. I would highly recommend the unit my brother rented and tell people to steer clear of the one we rented. The one my sister rented through Costco was actually really nice, only issue was master bed was extremely uncomfortable. In my unit all the beds were rock hard. All 3 units had drapes that had open weave with light shining through. If you need darkness to sleep, you won’t like it. They have 3 clay tennis courts on roof of parking garage. We played a few mornings and enjoyed it. Exercise facilities are great. If you need to hang out after checking out because you have a late flight, they will let you use the pool and amenities for the day and you can shower in the exercise room before leaving for the airport. This worked well for us. We had our luggage checked by valet, so we didn’t need to worry about it getting stolen from the car or watching it during the day.

Room Tip: Rooms are really hit and miss - some were great and others were not. Most units are individually ow...

Renting a condo at the Kaanapali Alii is a great way to enjoy your Maui vacation. With the ability to house several people, you can keep the costs down by splitting the room charges between several people. Having a fully functional kitchen also allows you to save money on food, as you are not required to go out to eat for every meal.
The Kaanapali Alii is well kept, with beautiful scenery and a fantastic pool area. If you are planning a family vacation to Maui, the Kaanapali Alii is a great choice.

Room Tip: There is no such thing as a bad view at the Alii.

I did a lot of research before selecting this property for our family vacation. This was a great decision to stay here. We had an ocean front 2 bedroom on the 10th floor. The unit beautiful and updated. The check in process was seamless and Chris helped us move our luggage and costco items to our room. The staff is excellent. Daily housekeeping was wonderful. The beach in front is beautiful and the pool area is also stunning. While the pool doesn't have a huge pool the area is large enough for the property. The pool chairs are some of the most comfortable I have sat in. The covered area is also very nice. The towel service is great.

Based on my research we knew that there was no onsite restaurants but we wanted a two bedroom as close to the beach as possible, and this property is it! The only downside I would say is no wifi in the units themselves but they have internet access. This wasn't an issue for us as we had a laptop and our ipad/iphones used data service but it would be nice if they added wifi to the units. I plan to return to this property and would highly recommend. One of our favorite activities was Yoga on the beach with Carmen. She was outstanding!

Room Tip: Ocean front was outstanding but even the mountain views were stunning!

We just spent seven nights here and really enjoyed ourselves. The property and staff were terrific. The location is outstanding as it is close to Lahaina and many great restaurants and shopping. The concierge was very helpful in helping us with reservations for activities and dining.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 7th floor with a great ocean view.
