Not being made of money, paying roughly $500/night was a stretch. It was worth the price. We arranged for one of the units that wasn't recently updated and saved a few bucks. We got unit 609 which is a 2 bedroom corner unit.

OK, Our unit was a little dated but was clean, spacious and overall it was very nice. The views were amazing. Snorkel and swim right outside you door. No complaints. Treat yourself and book your stay at the Mahana.

Stayed at the Mahana for five days with family of six in a two bedroom apartment with fully equipped kitchen. Had a great time, handy location, supermarket across the street means you don't have to eat out all the time which is great with a large family. Saw turtles and whales from our balcony. Great pool, spa, staff, everything. Would definitely stay again. Close to heaps of activities - we went biking down the volcano, snorkeling at Molokini, sunset dinner cruise, hired paddle boards and went shopping in Lahaina in our five days. PS also has washing machine and dryer which is also great for families.

I recently stayed at the Aston Mahana over Christmas break 2011 with my family. We stayed in Room #419 and the accomodations were wonderful. The kitchen had upgraded appliances and countertops. The furnishings were clean and comfortable. The room level was perfect for my family. I was able to keep a watchful eye on my two teenage boys, as they snorkeled in front of the complex. We could also see the whales and sea turtles from our lanai. The views from inside the condo was just as impressive, since each unit have floor to ceiling windows. The pool was small, but never crowded. Susan at the Expedia desk was very helpful booking our zipline and sail/snorkel excursions. The grocery store was very close by, and the pizza place across the street was a nice plus with good food. I paid the extra fee to have coffee, a daily paper, dvd's for my boys, use of the room safe, laundry soap, etc. I thought it wasn't an outragous fee for these services. The parking was free and ample. There was only one day where I believe the maid might have forgotten about us, however, I called the front desk and they sent someone right away to change out the towels, and throw away our trash. If you are looking for a five star property with bell-hops, down comfortors, and mints on your pillows....this is not the place. If you like to watch ample amount of tourist surfing, sun bathing, and playing in the water...this is not the place. However, if you are on vacation to enjoy the views and sound of the ocean- while feeling comfortable in your surroundings.....the Mahana is a very good choice.

We stayed here for 4 days at the end of December . There was a short delay checking into our room, but after that everything went just great. The rooms are great with an excellent view, nice pool and spa and the beach was perfect. The concierge was a tremendous help also.

Just returned from a 5 night stay at the Mahana. We had a beautiful view from the 11th floor and saw a pair of seat turtles in the water from our balcony each morning. The room was clean, had a full kitchen and washer and dryer, as well as many other helpful amenities. The front desk staff was very friendly as well. Unfortunately, I can't say the bed was the most comfortable we have ever come across - they gave us a murphy bed even though we told them it was our honeymoon and would prefer a normal bed. If you are looking for a nice pool, the one here is pretty small, but the huge one at the hotel next door is easy enough to sneak in to. The grocery store across the street was a huge plus as well - a great place to stock up on cereal for morning breakfasts on the balcony or sunset beers.

We would highly recommend staying here though you will need to rent a car if you plan on seeing the rest of the island as there isn't much within walking distance. The beach the hotel is on is not the most swimmer friendly as it is extremely rocky - so you will either need water shoes or a car to go elsewhere.

Bottom line: great value, very nice and well-kept rooms, friendly staff, beautiful view from the balcony and we highly recommend. Just make sure to rent a car or you will get bored pretty quickly.

Room Tip: Ask for a room above the 7th floor for the best view.

My wife & I finished our honeymoon by spending a very peaceful and relaxing week at the Aston Mahana at Ka'anapali following our very busy week in Waikiki. Our travel agent highly recommended the Aston Mahana, and it definitely did not disappoint!

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the very helpful front desk staff. They provided us with a honeymoon arrival package, which we were not expecting. We were also able to check in to our room early, which was really nice.

Our 7th floor ocean view condo was very nice and clean. It had all of the features that we were looking for, such as a full kitchen (including dishwasher), separate dining area and living room, a very spacious bedroom with an attached 3 piece ensuite. Even though we didn't really request it, it was nice to have a second bathroom off of the main area of the condo. Did I mention that the windows looking out onto the ocean were floor to ceiling, both in the living area and from the bedroom! It was so nice to fall asleep to the waves crashing onshore. It was great to be able to wake up and have breakfast out on the lanai. The sunsets are breathtaking, and it was very nice to be able to experience this from the comfort of the condo and out on the lanai. Being on the 7th floor, we were just above the palm trees, so we had an unobstructed view, so if you're looking for a view with no obstructions, ask for a condo on the 7th or higher floors. One thing that my wife was a little uneasy about was the little sign on the kitchen counter-top stating to keep all food in the refrigerator due to the possibility of little critters. We're not used to any critters where we come from, but you're in a tropical location, and it's always a possibility. Fortunately, we did not see ANY or find any traces for that matter. The condo was cleaned very thoroughly on a daily basis, including vacuuming, removal of all trash, any additional dishes that were not put into the dishwasher, towels and bed linens, and all soaps and such were replenished also.

We spent much time on the beach, which is literally 30 feet from the property. Unfortunately, you can't really swim right off of the property due to sharp black rock. However, there are beaches a few hundred feet in either direction that have some great swimming and snorkeling. The pool on the property was very nice, and there was a lot of space to sit and catch some sun. The hot-tub was nice in the evenings when it cooled off outside.

The Aston Mahana at Ka'anapali is in a beautiful, great location and of exceptional quality. We will definitely be returning and have already highly recommended it to our family and friends.

Additional tips for an enjoyable trip to Maui:
Rent a car, as everything on Maui is fairly spread out and there is a lot to see.
Stop at Costco just outside of the airport before heading to the Aston Mahana at Ka'anapali, to pick up groceries and liquor for your stay.
If you have a free night and would like to enjoy something a little different, go to Warren & Annabelle's Magic show in Lahaina for some great food, drinks, and up-close magic tricks. Make sure to make reservations though, as the show sells out nightly.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views.

We stayed at the Mahana for 8 days for our honeymoon around new years 2012. The Mahana is a condominium property that owners rent out through Aston, the building management company. The Aston staff was all very helpful and friendly. In most ways, this condo is exactly like a resort hotel. The maid service was excellent, rooms were very clean, coffee was replaced, bath products were replaced, laundry and dish soap was provided. Our maid even ran the dishwasher for us when it was full one day. The maid would also phone us in the afternoons just to make sure that we didn't need anything else for our room. I've never seen that at a hotel before.

The location of the Mahana is right in the heart of North Ka'anapali beach. The beach right in front of the building is great, but shaded by the building. There is also a coral reef there, so there is no swimming immediately in front of the building, but 100 yards in either direction leads to swimming areas. Lots of people snorkel and surf out in front of the buildings though. We could see sea turtles and fish from out balcony every day. I'm sure it's great if you like snorkeling.

On your first morning at the Mahana, Susan (who works for Expedia) provides an information session/sales pitch for different excursions that you can sign up for during the week. Many of them are expensive, and her recommendations are not always consistent with those on Tripadvisor, so perhaps you can decide who you trust more. We didn't sign up for any of her excursions because we had already booked the Trilogy boat cruise to Lana'i and the Old Lahaina Luau. Both were great excursions. We also had a rental car, so we drove the road to Hana and the Haleakala crater ourselves (both highly recommended, but on separate days. The road to Hana takes about 10 hours round trip if you stop at several spots along the way).

The Mahana has a nice pool and hot tub, dvd rentals, and towel service (included in your $10 per day resort fee). The $10 per day fee is annoying, but most resorts are charging it now. It's just a bit deceiving that it's not included in the initial price, so it makes you think that you're getting a better deal on your trip than you actually are.

Rooms are clean, and updated. Ours had granite counter tops, an over the range microwave, dishwasher, stove, fridge, washer and dryer, coffee maker, toaster, and all of the cutlery and dishes that you would need (even champagne flutes!) The balcony (called a lanai in Hawaii) have spectacular views, and a nice table and chairs to sit at. We had breakfast outside every day. You can see the islands of Lana'i and Moloka'i from the balcony.

The beach was long and great for walking on. We walked down to Black Rock (a volcanic rock that sticks out into the water and cuts Ka'anapali beach into the main and North beaches) several times. This takes about 30 minutes each way. We also walked beyond this along the boardwalk to Whalers village outdoor shopping mall. It's got some nice stores, and some high end shops. Also some restaurants. The walk from the Mahana to Whalers village is about 45 minutes each way. There is also a bus that picks you up at the roundabout in front of the pink hotel next door. It's $1 for a trip to Whalers Village, then another $1 to continue on to Lahaina. We spent several days wandering around in Lahaina. It's a great little town with tons of shopping and great restaurants. Far and away, our preferred restaurant was right next door at Duke's Beach House (at the Honua Kai resort). It's right on the beach, mostly outdoor dining lit by torches, with amazing sunset views, and excellent food. They have happy hour from 3-5 too, so drinks are a little cheaper then. They also have a taster menu served between 4:45 and 5:45 every day. It was $25 and included 3 courses. We really enjoyed this meal.

Overall, we had an excellent time at the Mahana. We didn't spent a whole lot of our vacation at the resort, but it served its purpose and we were very happy with everything about it. It's also generally much cheaper than nearby places such as the Honua Kai or the Sheraton. Those places have nicer pools, maybe a few more amenities, and a larger property, but I don't think they're much fancier. Save your money and go for a swim in the Honua Kai pool if you really want. We did.

Room Tip: Request a high floor. The views are great, and there is more privacy. Also, they are currently doing...
