The condo was amazing. We booked a studio but got upgraded to a 1 bed/2bath. The views were breathtaking!!!!. Must see to believe! It was very peaceful, quiet and private. Perfect for our honeymoon. Our condo came equipped with a full kitchen so we cooked 80% of our meals... saved us lots of money. Our 6th floor condo was just a couple feet from the ocean. The only thing that bothered me was that our condo had sand on the tile floors, otherwise, everything else was perfect. We would definitely stay there again. Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! is all I can say!

This is our third trip to Maui (and Kaanapali) and our first stay at the Mahana. The location is north of the black rock that divides Kaanapali beach but is close enough such that it is a short drive to Whaler's Village Shopping Center. We were in room 315 in the Lanai tower and the view is spectacular! Every room faces the ocean with a private lanai that is accessible from both the living room and the bedroom. Our bed was spacious and the mirrored wall in the living room allowed you to see the ocean from almost anywhere in the condo.

At the entrance road to the resort there is a strip mall with a Times Supermarket that has reasonably priced groceries if you want to save some money and eat in from time to time. We chose to buy fresh pineapple and other fruit and eat it in the morning on the lanai while watching the waves. There is also a coffee/bar called Java Jazz, which has a great atmosphere with pretty good Kona coffee.

About a block north of the entrance road is an ABC store (Hawaii's version of general store) with a gas station which is always less crowded than those in the shopping malls in Kaanapali & Lahaina. So, the location of the Mahana is very convenient to all of the needed supplies.

There is a gate that leads to a nice walkway across the parking lot that has a cipher lock. Just ask the front desk for the combination and they will give it to you. The walkway leads behind several neighboring properties and behind the dunes leading to the larger beach area. Also along the walkway is Duke's Grill and several access points to the beach.

The beach in front of the property is very narrow but is a very short walk to the larger beach areas where you can stretch out for a tan or snorkel/swim. You can hear the waves gently break against the rocks all night long and makes for a very restful sleep. My wife and I both loved this!

The swimming pool was nice and clean, plus the staff is great. Even though we didn't use it, Expedia has a concierge on-site to help assist with booking events. There is also a small stand in the lobby next to the pool that sells smoothies, snacks and hot dogs.

Housekeeping will not bother knocking if you have the Do Not Distub sign on the door but they will call you after a couple of days and ask if you need anything. We found this to be great for us because we don't like housekeeping entering our room without us being there.

There is a safe in the room but it is an extra $2.60 per day, which is a very small price to pay for piece of mind if you have valuables with you. I used it to lock up a 13" Macbook (too small for a larger laptop), a couple of ipods and a digital camera when we went out to dinner.

In summary: Beautiful scenery, convenient location, wonderful staff, private rooms/lanai = peaceful and great vacation!

We stayed at the Mahana from 7/26 to 8/2 and it was our 3rd time there. We cannot go anywhere else because this is THE PLACE. Room 1215 has become our second home, we have been in that room twice, in 2008 and 2010. The only thing that needs to be replaced is the sofa bed it was rough. I tell you, I dream all year long about going back to Maui and The Mahana. If you go there say hellow to Karen a real great lady at the front desk, and to Susan who works for Expedia activities. Don't drive to Hana, take a tour because if you drive you will miss the BEAUTIFUL sceenery. If you don't want to go to the volcano for a sunrise, take the tour at mid day, and it will take you The IAO VALLEY, too!!!

Mahalo,
Ed Lopez

This was our first trip to Hawaii. We didn't know what to expect and can't draw comparisons to other properties, but I'm pretty confident that this is one of the nicest locations you will find on Maui.

The lobby area is quiet and relaxing. It was so easy pulling up to the front door to unload our luggage and check in! Just a short walk to the elevators, we all took a quick look at the room before I moved the car. We walked in and my wife and I couldn't believe our eyes. Our 2 BR/2 BA condo on the sixth floor was heaven on earth. We actually teared up a little. The kids were able to check out a wave board and "noodle" at the front desk at no cost for the duration of our stay. Our double-wide lanai was perfection. The condo was upgraded with tile and granite and electronic shades. All the rooms were quite spacious.

We loved it and we would absolutely go back -- already starting to think about our next trip!

We'd stay at the Mahana for 2 weeks in July in room 914. It was spectacular in every way. This room has set the bar by which every hotel/condo that we ever stay in the future will have to beat. I dont think this will be possible! The view is outstanding from the lanai. The kitchen was superb and came with everything but the food. The pots, pans, utensils, and everything else were clean and ready to go. This saved us an immense amount of money on breakfast, lunch, and even two dinners which we ate on the lanai watching the waves come ashore. Paradise to the max!

Many thanks to Mark, the hotel manager for politely and quickly answering my pre-vacation questions. If Maui itself were less crowded and more entertaining, we would come back and stay again at the Mahana.

My only gripe is that the pool is too small and really needs to have an "adults only" time of day. When parents are tired of dealing with their kids, they send them to the pool and its just chaos abound.

Enjoyed a week here. Cannot beat the location, closest place to the ocean you can find. First room we were given was on the first floor, felt way too exposed, would not feel safe to leave just the screen open at night. Room was 103 and was not very nice, needed paint, Murphy bed was kinda grungy looking. Asked to move & were sent up to 503, much nicer, great view & a nicer bed.Sunsets from the balcony were spectacular.Being a condo\hotel, all the rooms are going to be different, decorated by individual owners. If you don't like your room try another. All the studio rooms will be Murphy beds, that's just the way it is, otherwise the bed would take up most of the room. know this going in and you won't be surprised. If you want a proper bedroom, book a 1 bedroom & pay the difference. I think their should be some minimum standards in place in order for the rooms to be in the rental pool, like I said the first room we saw was not worth $200 a night. Be aware that the wireless internet is spotty at best , only works out on the balcony, which is not ideal during full sunlight. That being said we loved the location, short walk to great swimming & snorkeling, tons of fish out in the reefs. Very clean water & beach. The BBQ's were clean & worked great, nice to have a washer & dryer in the room. Kitchen was kind of dated, appliances at least 10 years old, TV was older as well, not that we watched a lot but you would expect at least a flat screen. Bathroom was clean but again dated, handle of sliding bathtub door kept falling off. Was nice to have kitchen to save on meals as eating out in Maui is very pricey, but be aware that you probably won't have any of the basics you take for granted, we barely had salt & pepper. (In fact I bought pepper to leave for the next guys) No aluminum foil or saran wrap & who wants to buy a whole roll for a weeks stay. Handy supermarket just a short walk away & Costco is right by the airport to get you beer\wine\spirits. They sell hard liquor at Costco there, who knew? Another negative for the hotel was the lack of any sort of vending machines, couldn't even get a coke or bag of chips at night. There is a small snack bar by the pool during the day but over priced, $7 for a hot dog & chips, $2 pops, $6 for a smoothie. I may be cheap, but I could go across the street, get a whole package of wieners & a bag of buns for $7 & cook them on the BBQ right next to the snack bar.( Probably could have sold them to the other guests for $5 & made a killing) Anyhow it was a great trip overall, I would go back in a minute for the location & just be picky about the room until satisfied. It is what it is, know that going in & make the best of it.

We came to the Westin after 3 days at a noisy inn on the North Shore. At first we were assigned a ground floor studio which was dark and dank and equipped with a MURPHY bed! Because it is not safe to leave the back door open, we were instructed to keep it closed and locked all the time, and of course it would be practical to close the curtains so passers by on the beach couldn’t look in. We took the chance of asking Larissa at the front desk if it might be possible to move to a higher floor. She said she would look into it and get back to us. We grabbed some snorkeling gear and headed down the beach for a few hours--miles of gorgeous beach. When we returned, there was a voice mail that they’d found a new room for us. When we got to the Reception desk, Larissa gave us a key to a 6th floor room to check out (Room 613), and we knew we wanted it immediately. It was a huge ocean view suite and so high up and private, that we didn’t need air-conditioning. We left the screen door open during the day and night and were blessed with pleasant and mild trade winds the remainer of our time in Maui. What a dream it was to have the ocean waves as the only background noise. The suite had a full kitchen, washing/drying machine, and a decent bathroom. This room was truly our idea of a Hawaiian beach hotel, and we had a fantastic 4 days there. Many many thanks to Larissa and her friendly customer service and can-do attitude. She was always friendly and hospitable, and she helped make our vacation top notch and a very positive experience. All rooms are ocean view with staggered balcony (great idea!), and the facilities are superb: beautiful pool, gorgeous beach –simple with plenty of palm trees. Free towel service, and the parking situation is reliable, too.
