Where do Kaua'i families go to vacation? Napili Surf. We haved stayed here many times and I have lived on this Island and know it well. It is on a great beach and in easy reach of several of the top beaches on Maui. We love to bbq in the late afternoon, swim in the pool and ocean and play shuffle board. Then we hop on our jet back to Kaua'i and do it all over again at home!

After reading several reviews here regarding the Napili Surf Beach Resort, we decided to give it a try. We were headed to Maui for a good friend's wedding in October of 2006. We were in a unit on the second floor in the Puamala wing. Our unit even had an overhead fan in the bathroom which was great when it got really hot. It was very quiet for nearly all of our stay but the property between our wing of the Napili Surf Beach Resort and Lower Honoapiilani Road was being demolished during some of the mornings of the weekdays we were there. Luckily, the Caterpillar loader wasn't operated for hours and hours and the noise for us wasn't that intrusive. So that issue didn't really negatively affect our stay at all. It was too bad that some of the very old trees had to go down though. Anyway, the Napili Surf turned out to be a great location for this trip because we were either a short drive or walk to some really great snorkeling which we did just about everyday. The beach at the foot of the Napili Surf was fun as well and convenient when you just wanted to jump into the ocean. We would recommend this place for folks with kids or no kids and those who like a quiet, competitively priced, low key place to stay in West Maui.

We stayed here for a restful 5 days when all we wanted to do was lie in the sun & swim (between more active periods on Kauai & the Big Island). We stayed in unit 104 - facing the pool & the ocean. It was ideal for our purposes - we tanned & swam every day, and barbequed and drank wine and read every night.

The place is very clean & well kept. Unit 104 had a great bed and extra big shower that fit 2 people. The grounds are neat & tidy and they have comfortable furniture and killer barbeques for everyone's use. The beach is right below the condo units and was safe and swimmable even when the rest of the island had huge surf. We were there during whale season and regularly watched whales breach off the shore right from the beach.

It's not a glitzy resort, it has a large 'older' population ( A LOT of retirees), but it's great value for your money in an expensive area and satisfied two pretty fussy travellers. The area has no high rises so it's also a little more cozy than the surrounding towns which are full of big box hotels. If we were to visit Maui again we would definitely consider staying there. From what I can tell, though, the ocean front units are owned by individuals (and rented out by the corporation) and are far more upgraded than the 'garden view units' which seem to be owned by the corporation and have smaller beds and less upgrades. Worth the money to rent an ocean front unit.

We loved our stay at the Napili Surf. It was more than we usually spend for accomdations ($266 a night) but well worth it. We stayed in a ground floor one bedroom (#111) and it was perfect for my husband and our one year old baby and my sister and her 10 month old. It was not super fancy, but clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed the big grassy area right outside of our lanai for the kids to crawl and walk around on. The beach had calm surf, tide pools to explore and wonderful snorkeling right in front of the property. We even saw turtles and a whale. Even though our room was to the back of the property, we could still hear the ocean surf at night. My only "complaint" is that the front desk staff was not overly friendly. Very close to the property is a small shopping center with a grocery store and a Maui Taco (great food, vegetarian too!!). Most of the other guests were seniors, which I liked because they were all super nice.

Just back from a Thanksgiving holiday stay in room 203 in the Oceanfront wing - perfect location at this nicely furnished condo resort with a perfect morning view of the the bay. Walked through the Napili Kai resort at the opposite end of the bay to the "Coconut Grove" beach which a long time ago was also named Flemings Beach to the most perfect, sheltered snorkeling bay on the island. The coral is mainly dead but the fish were friendly and varied. Water was okay for this time of the year. This is a lovely, low-key quiet resort that families seemed to enjoy as much as those who like to just read in the shade. It is NOT a place to lively party types ...please. When the waves are high, it does get a bit noisy in the Oceanfront wing - so this is a tradeoff for the spectacular balcony views. The Garden wing in the back is just a place to stay with little ambience other than access to Naplili Bay. Highly recommended for very quiet, very pleasant stay without all the highrise craziness further south in Kaanapali. Aloha Mixed Plates in Lahina is really the best place to eat if you go to town, as all the other restaurants basically serve the same food but at much higher prices and with often far less ambience.

  • Liked — Quiet tropical garden and beach
  • Disliked — Noise of the waves when windy
  • Tips/Secrets — Book early and often

FAR exceeded our expectations for a $107 room after all taxes just a week away from high season. 1/2 a pineapple was giftwrapped in the fridge waiting for us even!

We stayed in room #124 and noticed that #123 has a granite kitchen...
Anyway, quite clean, comfortable, and spacious. No complaints whatsoever and we stayed
in the quiet, 'garden' view side as the beach is only a few steps away. This was the best value for the money of any room we had in our 14 day trip.

Our reservation was for 2 nights but plans changed at the last minute and the fellow at the front desk was SO kind to us and refunded our entire second night stay without a second thought. even without 24 hours notice. I felt he went above and beyond.

The downside: a VERY touristy, mall and resort-oriented area of Maui. Also, i'm sure with each of the units being different (privately owned) there _might_ be a couple apallingly decorated rooms, but ours was lovely. Housekeeping is the same all over the complex so they will likely all be quite clean.

TIP: the curvy road around to the airport (a dotted line on some maps) is GORGEOUS. we drove the Hana Highway too, but this totally compares. it is a slow trip as it's 1 lane and 5-15 mph for much of it, but is a wonderful drive.

I enjoyed staying here. My husband and I got married on the big island on June 7, and hopped over to Maui for 3 days. The studios are cozy, but well equipt. We came from staying at the Kanoloa on the big island, and this was a little different experience. There are a lot of older couples here, but we did see a couple of other honeymooners. The beach is very nice, and fun if you like to body surf. We stayed in unit 129 which was on the back corner of the garden view units. They had this little fountain that was really loud (like it was working to hard), that I'm sure you could only hear from this room and maybe the one above it. Parking is a little tight, but adequate. They do also offer beach towels and bamboo mats which were very handy. The pools were nice, and one is heated. On the last day we were there, they were starting some sort of upkeep project, and there was a tile saw blaring at 8:00 in the morning. The price was right for the location and, other than a few minor things, we did enjoy are stay. If I was to come back to maui though, I might try another place.
