We have just returned from a 10 day stay at the Sands of Kahana with our two kids. The condos were wonderful!
We stayed in unit #344 which is in tower 3, floor 4. Towers 2 and 3 are ocean front the other two towers sit behind further back from the ocean. Each tower has 9 floors. Tower number 3 is angled south west and tower number 2 is angled north west. We traveled with some friends who stayed in unit #283 which was in tower 2, floor 8. Both condo's were very nice, spacious and clean. The second bedroom was in the back of both condo's and very private. Our friends condo did have a small ant problem in the dish washer of all places but as long as dishes did not sit in there it was fine. Both condo's had a large granite counter top kitchen with plenty of pots, pans, dishes and appliances. Plus a washer and dryer which was a bonus being there so long.
The beach was perfect; not crowded and good clean sand with great waves for body surfing. The snorkeling was non-existent because the sea floor was very sandy. We drove north for about 10 minutes to Kapalua Bay and parked at the free public lots and spent the day snorkeling. It was fabulous! We walked over to Boss Frog's Dive Shop, across the street from the condo and rented our snorkeling gear for the week.
In the evening we used the triangular pool at Sands of Kahana. I believe the depths went from 3 feet to 5 feet. It was not a large pool for a resort but it was never full by any means. Lots of loungers around the pool and it was connected to large hot tub that could hold 18+ people.
Along the pool was the resorts restaurant which was fine but nothing special, we had dinner and breakfast there and the menu was pretty ordinary. Typical to a family restaurant. The resort also had gas BBQ's throughout the grounds that we used every evening we cooked dinner. We stopped at Cosco over by the airport as we got in and bought a bunch of food.
There was a small in-and-out store and gas station, couple of dive shops, a few clothing boutiques, a great coffee shop and a McDonald's all within walking distance of the Condo.
We paid $295 per night plus tax for the 2 bedroom ocean front unit. Check in was 3pm and check out was 11am. Staff was pleasant but not overly friendly.
Overall I would say that this location and resort was excellent and we will definitely be back. It was low key and not a lot of people around but very family oriented. Being able to make our own meals and have access to a great beach with good sleeping arrangements was my top priority and I am extremely fussy! Perhaps not the best set up if you want more of a staff waiting on you type-of-situation. It was definitely, you-do-it-all type of set up.
