Honokeana Cove Condominiums
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 7 November 2013

This complex is a a set of 3, 3 story buildings all on the edge of Honokeana Cove; a rocky beach with a protected, spectacular and safe snorkeling haven for turtles and other underwater sealife. The grounds have recently been redone and are immaculately and lovingly cared for by the cove's gardener and on-site care-taker. If you are looking for a quiet, lush environment with an almost private undersea aquarium at your doorstep, this is the place for you.
Each of the 36 suites (1/2 are 2 story/loft) face the bay with floor to ceiling windows all across the front and each have private lanais for all day viewing of the ocean and across to Molokai; whales, porpoise, sunsets and turtles ....

Room Tip: Every room has a view of the ocean

This condominium is situated in the beautiful & tranquil Honokeana Cove in Napili. Unit #111 is a newly renovated 1 bedroom/1 bathroom condo. It is nicely furnished & has a gorgeous kitchen with granite counter tops. However one of the best parts is the Lanai/Patio which has a magnificent view of the ocean & overlooks the gorgeously maintained gardens & swimming pool. It’s a fantastic place to relax & truly enjoy the beauty of Maui. The Cove is known for its abundance of sea turtles. During our stay we went snorkeling & had an amazing experience viewing these gentle creatures. It was one of our highlights of our trip. Just a short walk away from this condo is a small store, Boss Frog’s as well as some restaurants. A short drive away is Napili Plaza Shopping Centre as well as The Kapalua Golf Course. Our travel plans in the future definitely involve another visit to this unit.

The property is just spotless. A gardener works all day making this complex a gem.
We picked this complex as it was small, quaint and you can within minutes be swimming with turtles. If we saw less than 10 that was a bad day. lol Plus there are fish to enjoy, eels to see, eagle rays to admire as they 'fly by' and then of course why we came here, the turtles. The turtles will even beach themselves on the cove to see up close and personal. What a treat. It is just amazing.
The unit that we rented for two weeks itself was good. (211) It was clean and fairly comfortable. Since we stayed for 2 weeks, half way through, a maid came and cleaned the unit and changed out the towels. Nice touch.
The only negatives in the unit (and we have rented a lot of condos over the years) was only salt and pepper where the condiments provided. No sugar or anything else. There was not even saran wrap, or tin foil, a sharp knife,or any sort of containers for leftovers. Would this be a deal breaker? Probably not, it would have just been nice to know. But after experiencing this unit and reading others that had written in the book they left to write comments, saying how the unit is not being 'updated' even a little, we would look at another unit within this complex, as we will be back. Our grandson would love swimming with the turtles.

This is a wonderful place to hang and enjoy the simple things of life. We are here for ten days swimming with the turtles and tons of fish. Easy access to the cove allows old and young to snorkel many times a day. The resort looks fab after all the renovations. Views for breath taking. Each time we come I hear many stories of couples who have come here every year for 20 or so years. Once you come you'll never choose another resort.

Room Tip: Ask for Su when booking. She will hook you up for a great unit. Aloha

So here's the bottom line. This was our first time staying at Honokeana Cove. We freaked out when we arrived and found out there was NO air conditioning in our condo! It was one of the hottest days in August and no breeze was coming through the open windows. We were literally panicking and were actually looking for another resort to move to that had air conditioning. Finally, we found an old fan in the upstairs bedroom. It started to cool down around 7pm and we said to ourselves "we can do this!" Keep in mind, we have never stayed at a resort with no air conditioning. The next morning, the gracious staff located two more fans which basically saved the day! So, thinking at first "this was never going to work out" to actually rebooking our next trip to Honokeana Cove for next summer, it turned out to be one AMAZING experience! So yes, we loved it that much that we are going back! We have been to Hawaii several times but the peacefulness of the cove was unsurpassed! Su, the manager is outstanding and everyone on the staff tries so hard to please. We hightly recommend Honokeana Cove so much that we hardly ever left the resort! If I could make one suggestion to the management of this resort, I would ask them to have at least two updated, mulit speed pedestal fans in every unit. They are inexpensive to purchase and would make one's stay a lot more comfortable, especially if you visit during the summer months.

We have been coming to Honokeana Cove since we honeymooned here in 1985. The place is RIGHT on the water. Having just gone through major renovations, Honokeana Cove has never looked better and is fully open and operational. The grounds are immaculate, the view of Molokai is ever-changing, the sunsets are fantastic and it is now officially PRIVATE.

With the addition of combination-locking gates, you can now enjoy the peace and solitude that this jewel of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom condominiums has to offer. Evidently to those who stayed off-site, the "no-trespassing" and "private property" signs that were always posted here did not apply, for there was a constant flow if infiltrators who would trespass and trample the lawn to use the beach access for snorkeling, then use the shower, hang out in the chairs and even use the pool.

I cannot understand why one wouldn't stay here and enjoy it always - the rates are rock-bottom and every unit has a full-on ocean view. To be able to have full kitchens and not have to purchase 3 square meals a day, is a huge bonus. There are 3 gas BBQ's near the pool so you can enjoy the sunset and while preparing dinner. We hit Costco as soon as we get the rental car in Kahului, and we are stocked for the week. We love it here and, as long as this is offered as a rental, we would stay nowhere else on Maui.

Having snorkeled at many locations among the islands, my opinion is that the snorkeling in the cove is unmatched. The fish variety is incredible, the coral is spectacular, and it is stuffed with turtles. People pay to go out on catamarans in hopes of seeing a couple turtles, while I have counted no less than 20 large green turtles in the cove during a single outing, whether it be in 20 feet or only 3 feet of water. It is such a joy to watch their habits and float only feet from them as they go about their business. 50 steps from your condo and you can enjoy all this location has to offer.

Room Tip: Su in the front office is wonderful and has worked her for 20 years. She can help you choose the un...

This was my first time there since they remodeled in 2012 and the improvements were very well done. The addition of the security gates provided increased privacy and far less traffic coming thru the property (especially on Sunday when locals know the office is closed).

The number of Turtles in the cove has increased significantly from 2011 with many new young ones swimming around. My kids loved snorkeling around the smaller turtles and were fascinated how they interacted with them.

We took a trip to Molokini and while the water was crystal blue, the number of fish there in the natural preserve paled in comparison to the Cove.

Overall, a great family destination that is worth coming back to again and again.
