“Perfect location, wonderful hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 November 2011

We were told The Royal Lahaina Resort was remodeled a few years ago. Good job, people! Our room proved superior to our expectations. Decorated in a contemporary style with island touches - lots of deep rich wood contrasted with light colored walls, flat panel TV, brushed nickel fixtures and granite bathroom countertop, and best-night's-sleep-ever bed and fluffy, yummy pillows all covered with zillion thread count white sheets. We had mountain, golf course and ocean views from our 10th floor room. The location is more north and away from the always mobbed main area of Kaanapali. Walking on the beach in front of the hotel, we passed just a few people - not the crowds found around Whaler's Village. The restaurant is small but adequate. The food was very good and prices reasonable, for a resort hotel on Maui. The bartenders are skilled Mai Tai makers - 1/2 price during happy hour.

Room Tip: The parking lot is tight - watch the bumpers on the rental car. Some lower floor north facing rooms...

Check in was seamless - we actually got our room(s) hours before the actual check in time. We were offered an upgrade to the Ocean View Suite for $100 day. We decided to pass and enjoy our semi ocean view room; you are not in your room in HI that much anyways. Room was very clean, beds were far more comfortable than most. The maid service was outstanding! I have never stayed in a Hotel where it was cleaned so well while occupied. Lunch at the restaurant was meidocre, but not bad. Really, for the price better than most. We really enjoyed the Luau and the grounds were sweet! Once again, people traveling to Hawaii need to know that no matter where they go; you are going to pay to park! We celebrated our 30th anniversary here with friends. Thank you for a great time. Hope to come back someday.

Room Tip: You want a semi ocean view at least - don't even bother with ocean view unless you plan on being...

In June of 2010, my wife and I went to my favorite vacation spot in Hawaii. The Royal Lahaina Resort on Maui. We had come here to have our wedding ceremony and honeymoon here. We are high school sweethearts who re-connected after 38 years apart. This time, she didn't get away and we were married on a beach on June 19th.

I'm partial to the main hotel "tower" since the entire facility was remodeled and upgraded. What a terrific job they did. The rooms are comfortable and spacious and the housekeeping staff are very cordial and helpful. We opted to have the buffet breakfast daily and enjoyed that.

Only downside we had was the outdoor swimming pools. They are not heated and if you elect to try 'em out, you should be a card-carrying member of the polar bear club. They are cold!

Luau nights get crowded and finding a place to park can be a pain in the "heiny!" Tennis is great here and so is the beach.

This is where we'd like to return with our kids or just the two of us.

Hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did.

Room Tip: Any room in the "tower." If you choose the "cottages," please be aware that th...

We had a group of 14 of us that went to this resort for a destination wedding. The bride and groom had stayed there before and had such a great time they decided to get married there. Most importantly, all the wedding plans went smoothly--everything was done perfectly by the staff there. Besides the wedding events, the rest of the week was great..Check in and check out were quick and easy, the pineapple water in the lobby is an extra nice touch, and all the staff was super friendly and accomodating. The bartenders, especially Richard, were GREAT (and we spent a LOT of time around them) as was the manager that ran the food/bar areas. We were able to book all our activities (sunset cruise, snorkeling, luau) easily from right there. The guy that ran the outdoor activities/towel spot was very knowledgeable and super friendly. We stayed in the main tower and all of our rooms were very nice and clean. The only problem (which we all seemed to have) is that when you took a shower, water would end up all over the bathroom floor. The rest of the facilities, food, and drink were all top notch. My only complaint was that the food menu was the same for lunch and dinner with no "specials", so after a few days we were looking for different meal options, but that just gave us a chance to explore. The hotel also has a complimentary trolley that takes you to some of the local shopping/eating areas so if you don't rent a car, you can still travel around. I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay there again.

We enjoyed our 5 bight stay at the Royal Lahaina. Pluses: gorgeous beach, good location, excellent drink specials at the pool-side bar during happy hour. Breakfast buffet was pretty good but somewhat expensive. Good value for the price.

One main downside: expensive beach chair rentals

I definitely would go back.

We have been to the Royal Lahaina twice and stayed and in the cottages both times. It feels like you are in your own private bungalo. The staff is very friendly and the resort is beautiful. When we drove up to the entrance on the second trip, my husband's comment was, "It feels like we're coming home!" My favorite part is being able to go for long walks on the beach and on the walkways that connect the resorts. We will definately go back!

We reached the hotel at 11pm, and the staff was as courteous as it can get. They helped us with our luggage (most of the hotels in Hawaii do this), but it felt nice after a long flight from Roanoke, VA to Maui. Rooms were very clean and the housekeeping fellows do a fantastic job the next day to clean up all the sand :) Kudos to them

The restaurant in the hotel is very good and so is the dinner service. With live music and you can very clearly hear the ocean as these performances happen. Royal Lahaina is also home to the one of the two Luau's happen in Maui, so its very convenient to change after a days trip of sight seeing, come back relax and go for the evening Luau. They have a small private beach which is very well maintained

Located about 10mins from Lahaina Village its very nicely located to all the shopping, but for all the touristy stuff you could be a fair bit (20-25mins) away. But I wouldn't mind it, since the Drive is as good as it can get in Maui. 80% of the time you will not loose sight of the ocean.

All in all I would highly recommend this place, they made my stay pleasant. I am not sure why anyone would want to give it a 4 star. If you are a budget traveler but still want all the necessary facilities this one fits the bill..... You won't be disappointed to say the least.

Room Tip: Reserve the garden, more often than not they will upgrade you to the main building. Ask for a higher...
