We picked this hotel almost as a last minute resource because we waited till the last minute to make our bookings.. it turned out the price was reasonable, the hotel is conveniently located on the beach: beautiful blue, crystal waters.. a little deep though so make sure you can swim and if you have kids do not leave them unatended in the water as the waves tend to drag you in. But overall, it was a beatiful day every day.. could not ask for better weather.. it will rain a few minutes and the next thing you know it doesn't even look like it was raining before.
Bring summer clothes and sunglasses.. by all means you will need sunblock.. you could burn your skin in less than 10 minutes if you sit under the sun for too long.

Plan your activities in advance! it turns out that there is plenty to do, but also lots of tourists and activities sold out quickly. Some of the water activities could be cheaper if you book directly with the vendor or at one of the kiosks near the Warf Street area.
If you go to Hawaii, you NEED to attend a Luao- the one at Royal Lahaina is very famous and one of the original ones.

This hotel has a friendly staff, and someone is available 24/7. The rooms are spacious and clean, the bed was comfortable. They clean daily and offer room service. They also have some activities, such as at night, there is always a guitar player and a dancer.. once we also saw an entire dance show. The food was surprisingly good as well, and the prices are reasonable.

I will recommend this hotel for either family (there were lots of family with kids), or couples if they are looking for a quiet place.
Keep in mind though, this hotel is approximately 40-45 minutes from the closest airport Kahului -OGG.

Room Tip: We comfortably slept in a king size bed (2 adults and a 10 year old child). We requested the roller...

We honeymooned here in July and were upgraded from the cottages to the tower. Definitely stay in the tower. Our original room was a cottage and they are in the early stages of upgrading them. The cottages are run down and musty, the tower is newly renovated and the rooms exude a true Hawaiian feel. Georgie was kind enough to move us into the tower. I loved that this hotel was laid back and easy to get around, the bar and restaurant were great and offered nightly entertainment. The activities center made it easy to book excursions and were very helpful. We liked the pool and having an afternoon cocktail at the Beach Bar. The bartenders were excellent. The beach was sleepy, which made it the perfect place to snorkel and sun bathe. I was very happy here in this resort community and would recommend it.

Room Tip: Stay in the tower facing the Ocean, and even numbered room

Checked in to the resort..I asked if we had an ocean view was told we could upgrade for 350 a week. Saw both rooms decided on the upgrade even though I thought that was alittle high but it was worth the view everyday. Employees were all very nice and helpful. The only reason I did not give this resort 5 stars was the parking which was nuts.

Pros-Close to Black Rock ( great snorkeling spot). The resort is right on the beach which was smll and you can rent umbrellas and chairs. Breakfast was good and never crowded. The water with Lemon in lobby was refreshing and a nice touch. The Ice cream place had really good ice cream and reasonably priced. Although I was disappointed the store closed at 7. though the store should be open till at least 8. Convience store was also good and got a few things there. The resort is within walking distance to whalers village but after snorkeling all day it might be easier to take the Free trolley. The Trolley was nice to know you could use it and the price was free. We did not go to the luau but must have been good because it was crowded everynight. Guard was there when we drove in the resort during the day but not at night which I thought was odd. Our room was usually cleaned at around 3 so sometimes we were just coming in from swimming and decided not to have our room cleaned. Grounds were beautiful and well cared for. Resort was a nice location and I felt near everything but need a car to get there.

Cons- Parking was the number one problem especailly at luau time. The parking and I felt the guests should have assigned spots if you are paying 10 dollars a day. Litterally i sat on my deck and watched people try to find parking and sometimes it took a mor ethan a half hour. If you want tp pay for vaelt parking for 15 it might be worth it. We had a handicapped car which I found parking but if not I would have been pissed. Our air in our room was also strange..Sometimes we would freeze and other times it did not seem to be working. Also thought there should be a place to do your laundry on site. I know you are on vacation but I like to have clean clothes when i pack to return home. Found the laundromat which was a distance and not so clean.

All and all I would stay at the resort Again. I would recommend to family and friends and Hope I can return one day.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean View

We stayed at the Royal Lahaina for 5 nights in May 2014, it was a family vacation, great location close to the town of Lahaina, we had an ocean view room in the tower just fantastic to wake to the view every morning. Staff were more than accommodating, the food was good, the rooms were well maintained, the beach was fantastic and we will definitely return and have a longer stay in the not too distant future.

My wife and I celebrated our honeymoon in Hawaii. We stayed at the royal lanai a for 3 nights. The resort has a 5 minute access to the beach and the luau. :) the resort has a rental service for snorkeling equipment where a complimentary towel service is also provided to guests. The hotel staff was friendly, I ran into an issue with returning my snorkeling equipment on time and they took care of it. Parking isn't free but internet is. The breakfast buffet is great. Highly recommend the royal lahaina resort.

Great location on Kaanapali Beach and close to Lahaina. The room was well decorated, Hawaiian but not cheesy. The staff was always helpful. We got a package deal that included the breakfast buffet and a car rental, which if you plan to eat breakfast at the resort daily, saves about $100 dollars. It is a great hotel at an affordable price. We used the beach walk to walk to whaler's village.

Room Tip: Definitely worth at least a partial ocean view.

Aloha Karen. Happy to read that you enjoyed the resort. As you mention our breakfast & car package offers a considerable savings to guests. I would also suggest that guests look into our Royal Rewards program which will provide some additional free perks with applicable bookings. Information on both of these programs can be found on our website. Mahalo.

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights at the end of June,3 nights in a garden cottage and 2 nights in an Ocean View cottage. The cottages we the same internally, just the view and location different.
The hotel is 50 years old and it feels it, but the cottages are large and clean and the location on Ka'napali Beach is outstanding. We didn't see the interior of the hotel rooms to compare, but it was really convenient to step out of the cottage and be only a short walk to the beach. Some of the cottages have already been renovated and they are still working on others. We did request one of those, but wasn't lucky enough to get one. Again, we didn't see inside one to compare.
The beach is sensational, lovely to walk along and swim in. This side of Ka'napali Beach is much quieter than the beach on the other side of the point, outside the Sheraton and beyond.
The restaurant / bar is good, although there is only the one servicing the entire hotel. Happy Hour all afternoon with reasonably priced beer at $4 and Mai Tai's for $5. The food is good, all very large serves and quite tasty, but the service here was a bit hit and miss.
The gift shop on site is very reasonably priced and stocks a limited variety of snacks, soft drinks and alcohol, plus all of the usual souvenirs.
There is a free shuttle several times each hour from morning to night that will take you to the Whalers Village shopping area. This area is generally quite busy, but there is a good variety of shops and beach-front restaurants to visit there plus a larger ABC store to stock up on the necessities.
There is also a shuttle that will take you to the Outlets of Maui ($2 each way). It departs once per hour during the day until 10pm. Even if you are not interested in going to shop at the outlets (which were great value), you should take this shuttle as it drops you off right next to Old Lahaina Town. This is a lovely old town which is well worth exploring with lots of cute little shops, galleries and restaurants along Front St to visit.
Lastly, book an afternoon flight out of Maui if possible. Ka'anapali is 45 min from the airport.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay at the Royal Lahaina.

Room Tip: A cottage is spacious and not too far from the beach. Ask for a renovated cottage.

Aloha. Thank you for the positive review. Glad to read that you enjoyed the resort. Many guests find that our location on the north side of Black Rock provides a perfect balance with its quiet and peaceful ambiance which is separated from but in close proximity to the busier shopping and dining facilities at Kaanapali's Whalers Village. Mahalo.
