“Perfect place to Retreat!”
Reviewed 23 November 2013

Lumeria Maui is the perfect place for a group to gather and Re-Treat. The staff, accommodations, facility, grounds, food...all was such a Treat! We had a group of 45 for 10 days and I can attest to the positive experience of all- it was an absolute pleasure. We have already booked our return for 2015.
Thank you for creating this perfect gathering spot on beautiful Maui!

Our stay was really great. We didn't have a lot of time but the 3 days recharged us and were awesome. The staff, the grounds, the room, the food and the location couldn't have been better. I hope we get an opportunity to come back soon!

For our first trip to Maui, celebrating our anniversary and birthdays, we wanted to avoid the typical high rise, high stress, high glitz one stop shop resorts and hotels that look the same in every city. We also wanted to have a natural experience of Maui. Lumeria was all that we desired and more. Everything is tastefully done at Lumeria from the buildings and rooms to the landscaping and every contact with the staff. The food served is excellent and locally grown and prepared, including fresh squeezed fruit or vegetable juices available each morning. The resort is in Up Country Maui so there is every opportunity to enjoy the mountain, valley and ocean both as views from the property or through leisurely drives through the countryside. There is lots to do and see in this part of Maui with excellent restaurants nearby, and you are close enough to the resort areas to visit them if you wish. We did that one day and confirmed that we were correct in choosing Lumeria as our home base. If you are looking for a relaxing, energizing, healthful vacation in Maui, Lumeria is the place to stay.

Room Tip: Make your reservation as early as possible then call and talk with the staff about your room prefere...

After a grueling stretch of unrelenting work, my spouse and I finally got a chance to get away. Lumeria was perfect - no TV, no phone, no internet. Just peace and harmony with nature in an awesome place. We took the Yoga classes - the instructors are great, and patient with all levels of practice. We swam in the pool - it has an awesome view of the Maui coast. We hiked in the mountains, and read books in the hammocks by our room. It was a perfect five days of relaxation (I only wish we could have stayed a month!). Breakfast emphasizes local ingredients, and if you get a chance - sign up for dinner. We had a perfect romantic dinner prepared by chef Indica - she rally knows local ingredients and is a genius with fish!
Zorin and his partner have restored this historic site beautifully, and even improved it, with grounds full of native plants and ethnobotanicals.

Room Tip: As for a room by the whispering pines! There are quieter and more private for romantic couples, and...

Lumeria's beautiful website marketing and high room rates built great expectations for me. The actual place however, while lovely, is not worth $350/night.

Rather than a luxurious private space with impeccable customer service (what I expected), it turns out to feel more like an impressive summer camp for adults. Like a couple others who left reviews, I booked this for the last part of my honeymoon thinking it would be the icing on the cake but it was really the least favorite of the places we stayed all considered, the other two being airbnb finds for under $100/night.

We were not at Lumeria as part of a retreat, just as regular overnight visitors, and, as a regular yoga practitioner, I was a little disappointed to find that there were only 1-2 yoga classes offered a day and always early in the morning. We did luck out on weather. It was perfect weather-wise, and when I did go to yoga it was very peaceful outside in the yard under the shade of a tree and the yoga instructor Skeeter is good at her job.

When we first arrived at the hotel I thought we would want to stay on the grounds a lot, as we'd already been Island hopping for 9 days and we were ready to relax. The saline pool and shaded hammock areas seemed very promising, but after spending a night there, we realized that there were a lot of people hanging around being chatty and we just wanted to get away from them. There was a group of friends who seemed to like staying up late talking and the rooms are not at all sound proof. The windows open toward the center courtyard where everyone seems to congregate. This means you'll want to close the blinds and lower or close the windows to feel any sense of privacy. And when you close the windows it gets stuffy, as you have only a ceiling fan to rely on for cooling off (no A/C-- I don't even normally like AC, but it seemed like it would be useful here for those who want to shut windows and block noise).

Like others, we had some ant issues. I accept bugs as a part of life and they do not make me wince, but for $350 a night I would prefer not to have ants covering my nightstand.

The food. Not that great. While it is "farm to table," it seems like they are relying on that term more than the actual food preparation. Save yourself $40 a person plus 18% mandatory gratuity for a dry kale salad followed by a bell pepper stuffed with rice and kale. Instead of that go up the hill to the market in Makawao and get a big delicious sandwich for $8. Or better, book a house with a kitch on airBnB for 1/3 the price and shop at the farmer's market yourself.

Bottom line: You can do better. This does not meet expectations for price level.

Room Tip: If you do go, try to avoid a room on the parking lot side.

Our group stayed a total of ten days. This resort is top class and very tastefully decorated. Our group gets together every year for a week away, and this has been the best place to date that we have stayed in. The grounds are beautiful, rooms are high end, and salt water pool just perfect. The staff also is above and beyond in customer service. I highly recommend this resort to anyone with a group, or even a private getaway. It is a quite place that gives you the connection with soul.
Thank you Lumeria for a restful wonderful five days with lots of love and comfort.

Room Tip: Back part of property where pine trees are. They have great hammocks to just fall asleep on in the p...
