We had 7 great nights at Paia Inn. We loved that we could walk to excellent organic food at several wonderful restaurants and that we were a block away from a terrific health food store with high quality produce and prepared foods. We walked out our room down the path to the beach, grabbing a couple of the beach chairs provided by the Inn and in just a few steps we were planted on 1 of 3 connected beaches with few people around and a sandy bottomed entry into water that was just right for swimming and body boarding. We had a beautiful kitchen, comfy bed, and the friendliest staff. We were in unit 6, a one bedroom with kitchen, dining and living area. Deck wasn't much and the air unit was a bit noisy but otherwise the room was quiet and very comfortable. Great staff!!

Room Tip: Some units have noisy wall air units

I travelled to Maui from Oahu for a personal business trip. I had a meeting upcountry- Makawao on Friday afternoon and flew in from Oahu. The Paia Inn was a very short drive from the airport and then a short drive to Makawao.

I have never stayed here but knew it would be different when I checked in. We were greeted with Aloha and escorted to our room. We were shown the grounds, the trail to the beach (which we did not have time to enjoy on this trip) and were told of the hotel's amenities.

After our meeting in Makawao we came back to enjoy dinner at the Flatbread Company and then watch the Merrie Monarch in the sitting room of our cityview junior suite. The bed was very comfortable and the room gave us plenty of space.

We enjoyed breakfast in the courtyard the next morning and talking with guests and the owner. They pay attention to detail and all of the employees are looking after the interests of the guests. We were able to see some of the garden cottages and made a promise to be back.

I am partial to the north shore and upcountry areas of Maui and the Paia Inn has a great location, great people and will make you feel at home (with someone else taking care of you).

I recommend it for anyone that wants to see the less crowded side of Maui. Personally,
A Hui Hou.

We really loved this place. After almost two week in big resorts, we wanted our last few nights in Hawaii to be more low key. The Paia Inn had a great stretch of beach, a great location and great staff.

We stayed in the 3 bedroom suite with kitchen, living/dining room and large verandah. It was a huge amount of space though before checking in I hadn't realized there was no air conditioning. I thought I'd miss it, but the air cooled down every night and sleeping was great. The kids missed having a pool but appreciated the excellent gelato at Penguini and at Ono Gelato. We all loved the food at Flatbread Pizza and Mama's Beach House. The Paia Fish Market was also great.

We spent most of our down time on the verandah so we didn't have much contact with the staff, but every time we saw them, they were helpful and very friendly. If you stayed in the front building, you'd probably see them a lot more. The little courtyard off the reception area was a shaded, cool place to grab some coffee or a drink.

Paia is a kick, a fun town where we probably saw more locals in two days than we had in the previous two weeks. We ziplined on the island and went up to Makawao (another fun, eclectic town) and just hung out. The beach was beautiful and the water was mostly calm while we were there. I'd like to say we did a lot at the end of the trip, but we mostly just enjoyed the vibe and relaxed. I'd especially recommend the Paia Inn as a great place to start or end a vacation as we left at 3:15 for our 5pm flight and were able to drop off our car, check in and get to our gate in 45 minutes, hassle free.

The inn includes several different structures, the rooms in which vary a good deal. We had a room in the "historic" section of the hotel which ultimately meant that the room was not a good fit for our needs. Once the hotel staff learned about these concerns, their response was amazing. They did not just do everything they could to address those concerns, they went far beyond anything I have ever expererienced in terms of wanting to make up for any discomfort we experienced (including comping our entire stay). I travel more than 150 days a year, and have done so for 20+ years, and have never experienced more commitment to customer service and customer satisfaction than the staff, and the owner, of this property demonstrated. Truly impressive. The lesson here is that if you have ANY concerns -- tell them, and they will move heaven an earth to resolve those concerns to a level that exceeds any reasonable expectation.

Room Tip: Engage the staff; they want to be helpful
