“Amazing stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 January 2014

We stayed in small private house on Lae street about .5 miles from the main hotel. It was lovely, and much bigger than we expected. the hotel staff we extremely friendly and welcoming, and we'd go back in a heartbeat. Even the gardening staff were super friendly! And the beach the hotel is connected to is great. Overall a wonderful honeymoon vacation spot that we'll never forget.

Just minutes from the Airport on Maui is PAIA INN, a beachy jungle retreat with a storefront LOBBY where our journey began, frazzled and arriving late in the day it was Christmas Eve -eve,so the twn was windind down but it was full house at the fav Pizza place next door , we parked the Jeep at our own locked gable doorway past a communal morning outside breakfast oasis into our own 40's jungle bungalo compound all locked ,all private and pretty much right on the water ,take your breathe away view and a sweeping drop dead living quarters to excite even the jaded of high-end uber-travellers.....us detoxing from life, nurturing our selves on long couches and outside sheltered rooms, we supped from the organic store across the way , we escaped to our private rooms to watch TV and dress for trips, and our sleeps were all very good ,often making plans to leave the home but then we would break out and change plans and run back to the beach at wim because the home was so close to those waves and all the surfers, we met locals who own on that Beach , the kitchen is properly set up for cooking, and has a central homey feel in the cabin style bungalo, every room has absolutley wonderful detailed finishes like chandeliers, door latches, imported fabrics and millwork with exotic woods, carvings, wall art and more, I felt very happy looking outside with tons of exotic plants cradling the bungalow, there was very good air conditioning , fans , hot water and an outside mini shower to hose off the sand plus a hot tub, we used the huge couches in the outside room the most the big wide stair case to your yard made it feel so open and just beyond the yard was the biggest Banyon tree I have ever seen , the bungalo is right at the end of the beach so private but not desolate LOVE it , ...we got pampered by the hosts..when you have experienced some great stays ..you'll put this one up there high near the top of your let's go back list.

We spent one night in Paia before leaving Maui and we should have stayed more. The town is a funky, eclectic mix of people and shops and has some of the best restaurants on the island. The Paia Inn was a great boutique hotel, so much nicer than the big box resorts your normally find on Maui. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and they have their own parking lot which is a gem in an area with tough to find parking. I'd recommend room 8, the outdoor bathroom is a must see! With Paia being so close to the airport it's a great town to stay in before heading out on the next adventure.

I had just bid farewell to my family who left for the mainland ahead of me and had a few extra days in Maui, and this meant a few "non-resort" hotel days. Passing through Paia, I noticed the inn downtown and gave them a call. Long story short, I stayed one night. A bit pricey, but Maui is pricey and this was high season. But I was quickly appeased: front desk woman was ultra-friendly, even offered me a bottle of vino (because part of the hotel was being remodelled…). The room, though fairly compact, was ultra-neat, had character (nice artwork!) and a well-stocked mini bar. Another big plus was the backyard - facing the ocean - and privileged access to a gorgeous stretch of beach - the far end of the town beach which was virtually private. Paia inn gave us beach chairs, too, and a simple but adequate breakfast. So a huge thumbs up to my friends at the Paia Inn! P.S. The suites out back closer to the beach look amazing!

Room Tip: Not much variation but if you want to see the small town of Paia's main street, ask for a room f...

We stayed at the hotel as part of our 10 year anniversary trip. I had originally booked a 1 room garden view and got upgraded to 2 bedroom garden view. They also notified me via email well in advance that there would be construction at the inn and if I wanted to cancel and re-book I could without penalty . I appreciate the honesty and they also upgraded us away from the construction.

The room is incredible with a very comfortable bed and furnishings from Bali. We also had a full kitchen which came in handy to make and heat up food. They also gave us a complimentary bottle of wine for our anniversary very thoughtful.

The beach is very secluded and is amazing . The surf was a little rough but the beach is truly spectacular. We saw turtles from the beach. They also have beach chairs and surf boards. They also have a little breakfast area with amazing bananas hanging from a tree and excellent local coffee. The girls are great and gave us a tour of the place and beach. Very friendly.

The town of Paia is a hippy town and is interesting . Mana foods is a an organic grocery nearby with amazing produce. There is also a whole foods near the airport as well. The location is on the way to Hana and close to everything which a big plus given the local traffic.

Here is a recap:

Pros:
1. Amazing room
2. Great location
3. On the road to Hana
4. Amazing beach
5. Great service from the girls :)

Cons:
1. Construction
2. Inn appearance - a little hard to find
3. Pricey.

Overall highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the construction . We stayed at room # 20.

My wife and I last visited Maui about 10 years ago. At that time, Paia was even smaller of a town than it is today, but we ended up finding an amazing beachside villa rental. This time around we knew exactly what we wanted, and that meant away from the crowds and ideally back in Paia. Before I get to the Inn, I will say, while Paia has grown up quite a bit, it is still far more laid back and relaxed than the other parts of the island. You have to drive for “fine dining” (although there are some great cheaper options in town and Mama’s Fish House—which is the best restaurant on the island—is minutes away) and you wont be shopping all day long. What you will have is peace and quiet, lovely beaches and a more local experience (because of the side of the Island you lose a little on sunsets). Still it is more vacation for me than staying on the other side in a big resort.

As for the Inn, we were very pleased with the staff and accommodations. Each room is unique, tasteful and care has clearly been taken. At first (because of availability) we ended up staying in the main house. While the room was nice and bed comfy, it was right on the street and even the sound generator making fake wave sounds (took us a few minutes to figure it out) couldn’t completely drown out the sound. Regardless, we were very comfortable and happy to have a main room, sitting room, fridge and as others have mentioned, apple TV. Once availability cleared, we were moved to more of a mini villa, which was like a studio, with a full kitchen, outdoor bathroom and steps from the beach. This was exactly what we were looking for… our own private bungalow near the ocean. In Paia there is a great little super market with organic and natural foods and we were able to cook our own meals and obtain wine from a cute little wine shop down the street with a surprisingly good selection (wine priced slightly higher, but hey you aren’t on mainland). In addition, our “room” had a private little outdoor courtyard where we could hear the waves crash, sit in a lounger and enjoy reading a book and talking in private.

All in all, this is the type of place we prefer and we were not disappointed. It is not for everyone (some people like to be catered to every moment of their lives and those people should stay elsewhere), but if you want privacy, quality accommodations, flexibility (cooking, staying in, going out) and a warm and welcoming staff then this is a great find.

Room Tip: I didnt see all of the rooms in the main house, but I would spend the extra to be in one of the suit...

We're coming back! Great property. Great location. Hidden little beach behind the hotel. Loved the fun outdoor hot shower in our room! Super personnel. Let me put it this way...stay here and you'll want to move into the hotel! Only caveat is to keep the doors closed when you go in and out so a pesky mosquito or two doesnt' get in. My own fault. I'm from Hawaii originally and should've known "mo' bettah!" You won't be disappointed! There are so many little things here and attention to detail that make it such a gem! Wish we were there right now!

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the outdoor hot shower! Pretty neat in the middle of the night with a beer or...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The postcard perfection of Maui’s North Shore (white sand beaches, raging waterfalls, stylish cafes, and world-class surfers) just got even better with the opening of the Paia Inn. This beach town boutique hotel seamlessly blends modern amenities with the historic character of its building. In a nod to the town’s plantation trade days, the building’s exterior has retained its charm with tin rooftops and rustic hues; yet, the interior mixes contemporary island furnishings with the chic lushness of the W Hotel. ... more   less
