We really enjoyed the mahi and ahi! The cajun maho was pur favorite. Fish was perfectly done and portions were very generous. Communial seating offered a great way to talk with locals and other tourists. Be prepared for long lines during peak times and weekends.

Due to all the glowing reviews, we had to try the Paia Fish Market. It is small, very crowded and it has communal seating. There is also no parking. It is small enough that one person with hygiene problems could be smelled from anywhere in the restaurant. The problem is that it is a hippie / surfer / transient town so it appeared that many had hygiene problems. The place smelled so funky. The bathroom was a shed which was filthy and the sink was backed up and it needed immediate attention. I was hoping that the food would be the one redeeming quality. We ordered the Ono and Ahi fish burgers with a side of fries. The fish was destroyed by over cooking. We could not tell which was which by sight or taste. They both tasted dry and rubbery and were covered in mayo and shredded cheese complete with a soggy bun. I am not sure what the help staff was doing, because they were nonexistent. I would not return or recommend this place. I love hole in the wall places and food trucks. They are usually gems. This place was not a gem. Very disappointing.

The Fish Market is located right in the middle of Paia, at the intersections of Baldwin and Hana. The mood is casual and the decor is no-frills, but the fish is out of this world. The selection includes entrees made to order, sandwiches, and sides.

We dined here as a small group after a day full of activities, so we're looking for a fast, cheap and sizable meal. We were not disappointed. You order your food at counter, grab a seat on bench (small place so be wary to find seats as place is packed) and 8 min later you have a good sized portion meal. We had the fish tacos and mahi mahi entrees. All excellent and hit the spot. Best part was that the entire meal (4 entrees) cost less than $80.

Pain is a nice little town and a tourist dream or nightmare, depending on you style. We enjoyed it a lot, but the highlight was Paia Fish Market. Obviously very popular with the lines that form, this quaint semi-open-air restaurant is casual, affordable, and delicious. Our party had several items from pasta dish to salads to fish and chips...all great. Only the cole slaw did not score well. You order at the counter and they call your name...don't let that put you off.
