“LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS HOSTEL !! ( especially great for people who don't drive as they do free trips all around Maui!!)”

If I'm honest I was a little worried about staying in a hostel again (my backpacking days were 15 years ago and I aint a 20-something anymore!!) but this place is AMAZING ! It's so lovely and cute - there's not too many rooms so there's a real home-from-home feeling and everyone is so friendly. The outdoor area is perfect for meeting people and the kitchen (with free pancakes for breakfast) is well equipped and well organised. The staff are fantastic and really put me at ease when I got there - They are also the ones who organise the free trips all around the island every day (sign up the day before & give the drivers a BIG tip cos it's well worth it) which I was so grateful for as I don't drive. I really recommend the Haleakula Volcano trip (seeing the sunset up there is magical) and the road to Hana. So beautiful and lots of fun. If you want a party hostel - don't come here! But it was perfect for me as it is still very sociable but respectful of the neighbours with quiet time after 10pm. So happy I stayed here - best hostel on Maui by far !! Thank you everyone x

Room Tip: The rooms at the front are a bit noisy as its right next to the road, so ask for one at the back if...

If you are looking to have a relaxed and comfortable stay this is not the place. This is a party place, the rooms are tiny, have no air conditioning only fans. Bathrooms fill easily so you have to wait your turn. There is one in the ground floor with one toilet and 3 or 4 showers, try the ones in the 2nd floor private ones, each with toilet and shower. But the staff is friendly, the place has a nice kitchen and what makes this place awesome are their free tours which are fun and for which you have only to tip the guides who are volunteers plus you get to meet the other travelers! They have female dorms! It is located in Wailuku town which is not near the beach, everything closes around 4pm, so basicly you are isolated, however if you join their daily tours you get to know the island, so great if you are on a budget or don't fancy to rent a car. On the other hand if you rent a car you can make it your base and explore the island. Also 2 bus stops are just outside the hostel that get you to the main bus hub which is located in a mall about 2 miles away and connects you with the rest of the buses running around the island, so not a bad location in the end. Recommendable place but without the comforts, nice to meet people.

No where near anywhere, 50 minutes to the closest beach by bus. Not a very nice area at all, feels a bit unsafe walking around as a female. Hostel is clean, beds are alright, but just not an area of Maui I would recommend.

This hostel is a great place to meet people and view all sides of the island on the free tours. We had a problem with our room the first evening, after notifying staff the following day they moved us and gave us a refund for that night. The hostel manager Isaac went out of his way to ensure the rest of our week was awesome, he even gave us priority on the free tours which is what makes this place so great. These guys exceeded our expectations in dealing with the situation, they went about it in an extremely professional yet friendly way which we wouldn't have expected from a hostel. If you find you have a problem then its worth mentioning it. The tours are a great way of seeing the island but they do get booked up very quickly, lots of people do rent cars and you are normally able to tag along with the vans. Wailuku is a bit of a dive but there is a good communal space at the hostel where people chill out in the evenings. Overall the best hostel in the area FOR SURE!

Amazing experience! Everyone was so friendly, and the guides were awesome. My girlfriend and decided to go last second, and the people at banana bungalow made our visit to maui much more enjoyable than we'd imagined!

Make sure to bring good hiking shoes if you plan on doing the volcano climb (and socks)..

Recently I had stayed here for a month. This is by far a great place to stay, friendly atmosphere and a great way to see the island. They offer more than just a place to stay they offer a "Once in a lifetime experience". Many people that may not know the island and the hidden Treasures it holds may want to take this "More than a Hostel Adventure" serviced by Excellent & Professional Tour Guides. Free tour vans depart every day and a new Adventure is always waiting. I personally went on every Tour except one, but I am bringing my kids back with me next year to take that extra ordinary Tour and more! I can personally say that I now know every Beach where snorkeling with turtles is Guaranteed. This Hostel and it's staff are Definitely one of Maui's best Treasure Troves to be discovered!

The free tours are absolutely amazing (make sure you tip $10 - $20 to your guides!). Yes the property is old (legend has it: once was a brothel, c'mon, that's just funny right? It's called "Happy Valley" for a reason...), and yes, the place could be cleaner - no bed bugs - but I did see a couple of roaches. However, despite the few problems, the people who end up at the Bungalow end up being some the best around (maybe the Bungalow attracts open-minded travellers who come here despite the fact that the reviews seem to clearly indicate that the place may be a little grungy...people who can live with seeing the odd roach as long as they're having fun 95% of the other time) the excellent tours were complimented greatly by all the awesome fellow travellers and staff I met. One improvement I would love to see would be to have lockers in the room - no where to lock things up aside from the safe at reception - which isn't always open.

Overall, great tours during the day and great camaraderie in the evenings, could not have imagined a better week! If you're looking for impeccable accommodations - look elsewhere - but if you're looking for the BEST value for your money, and possibly the best time ever, give the bungalow a try!
