“Great view and from a Horse”
Reviewed 3 May 2014

We chose this activity for a free morning and did not regret it. The ranch was easy to find and the drive there was a spectacular view of the North shore. The staff was attentive and helpful and chose just the right horse for each of our riders depending on their experience. The ride was easy but there was a short time for a little trotting and galloping. The photo opportunities were worth the multiple stops and our guide was great at taking group photos for us. Just a chance to see the spectacular views from the cliff was worth it. The BBQ after was plentiful and delicious. A great morning and an activity enjoyed by our whole group.

“A Ride with a View”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

Not only did we get to ride some great horses, but we were able to enjoy the beautiful view of the North Maui shore. Staff was wonderfully attentive and helpful and did a great job matching horses up with riders. The day ended with a wonderful BBQ.

“A Ride with a View”
Reviewed 28 April 2014 via mobile

If you enjoy horseback riding and spectacular ocean vistas, than the Mendes Ranch ride is for you. Both experienced and beginner riders will savor the hour and forty-five minute ride along the Waihe'e Valley and the ocean cliffs below. The Mendes staff are very professional, helpful, and friendly cowboys & cowgirls. They will match you up with the appropriate horse based on your riding ability. For most of the ride we walked our horses down and then up the shoreline cliffs; however, we were afforded the opportunity to run the horses along two short parts of the trail. My teenage daughters relished the opportunity to move at a gallop. The ranch hands who guide the ride will make a number of stops for photos along the bottom portion of the trail. They will even take pictures of you on your horse with the scenic ocean backdrop. Don't forget to bring your camera. Our pictures appeared to come right out of a postcard collection. Upon completion of the ride, complimentary refreshments were provided. We did not stay for the BBQ lunch, which is available at an additional price.

If you are adventurous and your buttocks is not to sore from the ride, the Waihe'e Ridge Trailhead is only a half mile away on the opposite side of the road. It is a five mile (round trip) hike with breathtaking valley views to include a distant waterfall (Makamaka'ole Falls). Just be prepared to make the initial 1,500 feet climb to the valley's crest.

“Magnificent Views”
Reviewed 24 April 2014

After quite a bit of research, we choose this ride for the views, and we were not disappointed! The ride starts from the Mendes Ranch at about 1500 feet and drops fairly quickly to about 1000 feet. It runs from the ranch down a road to a coastal cliff, runs along the coast and then back though a mountain trail. The first part of the ride is fairly steep, and may be intimidating to novice riders, but the horses are gentle and the guides keep things in line. The guides were quite friendly. They let you "run" the horses a couple of times (if you wish). The ride is about 1.5 hours long and there were a couple stops for photos along the way (you can't dismount, but the guides will take pictures of you on your horse). Did I mention the views? At one of the stops, you can see the entire Northern shore of Maui, including Haleakala. Complimentary sodas are available before and after the ride.

“Excellent horse ride!”
Reviewed 23 April 2014

We took our son's family on the "Aloha Morning Ride" at Mendes Ranch last week. There were 5 guides for the 15 people and they assigned the horses based on your level of expertise (beginner, intermediate, advanced). Our grandkids are 13 and 15 and they said this was one of their top activities during vacation. The trail goes all the way down to the ocean and then back up to the ranch. They stopped a couple of times at scenic points on the trail to take pictures if you wanted. The horses were very well trained and the views during the ride were spectacular. It rained that morning, so they provided rain jackets to hose who wanted one. Helmets are mandatory for children under 14 years old. Riders over 14 could sign a waiver to not wear a helmet. The guides were very attentive and provided 3 different opportunities for trotting or running the horses for those who wanted to do it during the return trip to the ranch from the ocean. We did this ride with Mendes Ranch about 12 years ago and were so impressed that we booked again to take our son's family. You could also book the BBQ lunch after the ride if you wanted to.
