This beautiful beach is one of the best spots to see the beautiful sea turtles. Each time we have been we have been so lucky to see the turtles.

We visited this beach at dawn, having heard this is the time to see them. There was only one other person on the beach, and he pointed out the big turtle among the rocks. It was so well camouflaged we would have missed it, and it really did look at first glance like a rock. We also saw turtles swimming in the surf, bobbing up and down.

While it was wonderful to see the Sea Turtles on the beach resting quietly I wonder what will happen when commerciality takes over?
The volunteers did a great job of asking people to stay back from the turtles but as with other natural attractions, when the buses turn up and the tourists expect a little "Disney" then we'll probably see people trying to sit on the turtles, etc, etc...
I hope it doesn't change as it's a beautiful place to visit if everyone respects the Turtles (and the Volunteers).

I learned of this beach (Laniakea Beach) from Trip Advisor. The beach is not marked well, and is along the North Shore's main road. We found it because there were a lot of cars parked there and people gathered on the beach. The first time we stopped, it was late morning, and the turtles were not on the beach, but we could see their heads popping out at times. We stopped by later in the day, and there were 3 out on the beach. We were able to get pictures and talk to the volunteer, who was very informative. The entire stop was about 15 minutes long, but well worth it.

We stopped by on our drive back to our condo and there was one turtle sunning on the beach. A volunteer was there to answer questions and the beach was not crowded....everyone was watching the surfers a few miles north of Laniakea Beach. We were there in late November and the road all along the North Shore was very crowded due to all the surfers. If you have the time it's a great stop along a beautiful drive. We were only there about a half hour to take some photos...too many other beautiful beaches around to stay...but worth the time if you are in the area.
