We were excited to be staying at the Ke Iki "bungalows" for a week on our honeymoon after reading all of the great reviews. However when we arrived we were greatly disappointed. We booked the Protea bungalow 11 months in advance but when we arrived we were told that some work was going on in this "bungalow" so we were given the 2-bedroom Antherium "bungalow" instead. The reason I put bungalow in quotes is that these really aren't bungalows at all. It was a building about 50 yards from the beach with 3 apartment units in it. After waiting an hour for our unit to be cleaned we checked in. The unit was very spaceous but was not extremely clean. The carpet looked dirty and both showers were stained. There was a large spot on the carpet that had been burned by an iron. There was one lamp in the entire unit and it had no shade. Our unit also had no fans, we were later told to go into another unit and take fans. After seeing the unit we were disappointed but decided to check out the beach because generally we don't use the room that much on vacation anyways. The beach was very nice and uncrowded, great for taking walks and watching the sunset. We got back to the room and decided to make a phone call only to find that the phone line wasn't activated in our unit. At 7:00AM the next morning we were jarred awake by a loud bang and cursing in the ceiling. Turns out the construction in the Protea was work in the attic which was also shared by our unit. We found out this work had been planned for at least a month. This was the final straw. We spent our first morning on Oahu looking for other accomodations. We decided to abandon our honeymoon budget and stay at Turtle Bay, and it was worth it. We went back to Ke Iki and promply checked out. To the credit of Ke Iki we were not charged for our night there. Reading the reviews here I'm guessing that this is not the typical Ke Iki experience, but for us it was a nightmare. We are posting this review hoping to save a future honeymoon couple from the same.
