“Tourist Trap of the Worst Sort”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

Long lines, flavorless syrups (my pineapple was a shade of bright blue not found in nature and akin to Windex and tasted of nothing), under cooked azuki beans and a miniature dollop of ice cream in a paper cone that was hard to eat out of. Very disappointing especially after all the build-up. Uncle Clay's House of Pure Aloha in Aina Haina on the south side is a thousand times better.

“Lotta Hype, But There is Better Shave Ice Just Down the Street”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

Family of eight had shave ice almost daily for a week. Matsumoto's was the most crowded, but our least favorite.

Specifically: You have to pay extra for plastic holders, or you get an old school paper cone.
Cherry tastes like cough syrup
Pineapple tastes like "fake" pineapple, rather than pineapple juice. (Get it?)
Ice was grainy,

Just across the bridge there is a place called Tropical Rush. Bigger servings, better flavors, and better ice. (Tropical Rush was our favorite)

We went because we "had to experience the legacy." Been there done that.

“Vacation 2014”

Great place to cool off... very best shaved ice, worth the wait. Alot of different flavors and they have a store inside where if you want to buy shirts or gifts. Great place to visit if your planning to go to the North Shore.

“Yuzu Shaved Ice!!”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

Three of us shared Yuzu, Strawberry+Guava, Green Tea Special.
Yuzu was the best!!!! It's a Japanese citrus which we get to use only around New Years Day. It's not too sweet and brings me back to old days in Japan!

I love their T-shirts too. You might have to wait long under the sun but nothing better than shaved ice to cool you off afterwards!

“Worth the wait!”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

We braved the line for Matsumotos to try their shaved ice and we weren't disappointed. Definitely get ice cream on the bottom for the full experience, and I'd also recommend the plastic collar that keeps it from falling everywhere. Such a simple concept but so perfect as a refreshment while on the North Shore!
