“Be careful if booking through 3rd party”
Reviewed 30 July 2014

Upon arriving at the hotel after an hour and a half drive, I find out at the front desk that the type of room I had booked was unavailable. I had booked the room almost a year ahead of time for my anniversary. The front desk told me that they could not guarantee the type of room booked through a third party like travelocity, expedia, or hotels.com. However, if it was booked through their site then it would be guaranteed and okay. They tried to place us into a downgraded room in spite of having paid full price and in full almost a year prior to check in.

After talking to the third party company and the manager, everything was straightened out. But, there was almost a 40 minute delay to get everything worked out and at one point it looked as if it was not going to be resolved. The third party company told me that all they could do is offer me a full refund and try to help me book another hotel for the evening. Keep in mind though that there are no other hotels in the north shore area and I would have had to drive another hour and a half back down to the Waikiki area.

Eventually, Leilani the manager was able to straighten everything out. She got us the type of room that we booked and offered us a $100 credit for our trouble. She went above and beyond to try and help us out in a stressful situation. However, the hotel should not over book the hotel. More importantly, they should not treat their guests differently based on how it was booked. Those who book through a third party site are still paying guests and customers of the resort. So, their room types should be guaranteed as much as anyone else's.

Room Tip: Book through their site in order to avoid stress at check in

Our first trip to Hawaii revolved around a medical conference at the Turtle Bay resort. Clearly, the resort is in a beautiful location and has very nice amenities. While the rooms we stayed in had been renovated, some of the finishes weren't quite perfect. Rust was evident is some small areas that should have been fixed during the renovation. Also, a relative lack of adjoining rooms made it necessary for our family to have rooms next to each other but not connected.

Our ocean room view had a beautiful view of the sunrise and the bay below us. The bed was quite comfortable and the TV worked just fine. It would have been nice if the refrigerator had been on when we arrived.

The staff of the Adventure Center was wonderful. Paige and her colleagues were wonderful in assisting us with scheduling our activities for the week. She also gave us great dining suggestions as well.

We did a SUP class, kayaking, horseback riding, and a Segway tour through the hotel. Our helicopter ride was through Blue Hawaiian in Honolulu and that was a great choice. Paradise helicopters is convenient, but their copters only seat 4 and don't offer the great views of the EcoStar helicopters from Blue Hawaiian.

The staff was all friendly and helpful. The valet staff was especially friendly and welcoming.

Two main detractors: food and laundry. The food in the restaurants was very expensive and, quite frankly, not worth it. Burgers at the beach side restaurant were bland for their $13 price tag. The Ahi Poke appetize was large, but over marinated and very salty. The breakfast buffet was very over priced for the selection offered.

After the first couple of days, we discovered the pool store had cereal and pastries along with fruit and juice that satisfied just as well for a fraction of the cost.

For lunch and dinner, there were many choices nearby. Giovanni's Shrimp Truck in Kahuku was incredible. The Kahuku Grill was also very good. In Haleawa, there are multiple good choices for fast food or sit down meals.

Ted's Bakery was a pleasant surprise. A long wait was worth it for the excellent burgers and plate lunches.

The other detractor for us were the laundry facilities. There were two working washers for the entire hotel complex. Also, the change machines were not sufficiently supplied with quarters.

All things considered, it was a great trip and The Turtle Bay Resort is a very nice place. Better food for the cost would have made it a 5 star stay.

Room Tip: High room away from the helicopters if you want an afternoon nap.

If you want to get away from everything, this is the place to come. The views are incredible. The hotel staff is nice and go out of their way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. We did the kayak which was nice as we got to see sea turtles in the bay. We also played a round of golf, which is always nice, but seemed better in Hawaii... You can go for 6 days and never leave their property and will have everything you need.
If you go, here are my recommendations:
1. Make sure your room faces the ocean so you get the nice views.
2. Try and get a room as high as possible for better views. There are only 6 floors.
3. Take a day and go to where the big sea turtles come up on the beach. It is just past Waimea Bay. The bus stops (which, by the way is very reliable) right in front of the area.
4. Go to the food trucks that are just down the road. Really great food.

My husband and I stayed with our three children; ages 7,4, and 1, from July 3rd to July 11th at Turtle Bay Resort and absolutely fell in love with this place This is our fourth trip to the Hawaii, first trip North Shore Oahu, and I must say Turtle Bay Resort is the best place we have stayed at thus far. Everything about our stay was absolutely perfect! Location is breathtaking. I mean seriously, the views here are incredible. The hotel is normal size, not too big, yet the property goes on for miles. My family and I had our own beach many times. Turtle Bay is surrounded by sooo much natural beauty, amazing beaches that my small children were able to swim in, and only a short 15 minute drive from Haleiwa for shopping and lots of inexpensive restaurants. We are pretty sure no vacation will ever top the one we just had at Turtle Bay.

Room Tip: Any room here is amazing!!

Staff was real and friendly. The wait for check in was the only problem. It took several hours for response to my reguests. Problem getting a paid movie it took 4 hrs by then we were to sleepy to watch.; requested a can opener, said it be up in 20 min. That was ok except it took 3 hrs. I would say, they only need is to gets the front desk to the level of the rest of the staff. The view from the rooms was outstanding, one of the best and I usually hask for the best views.

Room Tip: ask for a room facing the wedding chapel. They even had Sunday service non denominational facing th...

I don't know where to start! !

From the most room ocean, pool, mountains view ever in my life to the wonderful room and resort amenities !!

It has so many restaurants in it that you won't need to go out for days !!

We have been to Honolulu so many times and always a blast to come back especially the scenic view inbetween!!

Parking was a pain in the weekend as almost all spots taken and had to wait for someone to leave!! Or valet which I stood have done I believe 16$ daily and I believe worth it!!

Swimming pool is wonderful with depth up to 12 feet!!

Best restaurant is Pa'akai but $$$$ 2 of us ate for 120$ and we were not hungry -:)

Gym is amazing and probably one of the best you could have in a hotel as it has one of the best views of the ocean and mountains !!

A night was like 300$ for ocean front which is expensive but worth it.

Rooms are 4.5 stars but everything else is probably a 5 star level !!
