“Beautiful section of Hawaii”
Reviewed 3 August 2014

The only real marsh left in Hawaii. The bird watching is fantastic. It's a really nice peaceful area. One I really love and recommend.

“Kawai Nui Marsh - Gloablly important wetland”
Reviewed 13 June 2014

This is an awesome place on the island of Oahu in Kailua. There is a huge restoration project underway and this is the largest wetland complex on the entire island. There are trails through parts of the marsh and important cultural features that can be discovered. On Quarry Road there is an upland forest restoration and trails that give you a great view of the ocean and Kailua. There are even fishing opportunities for kids and our granddaughters love to fish there. Also, rare birds use the march and it is home to rare and endangered birds.

“Wetlands Scenery and a flat trail”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

The Kawainui wetlands park and trail is a really pretty walk through a marsh of international importance. It gets hot if the sun is out, so take a little water to keep hydrated but make sure not to leave any trash behind. You might see coots, ducks, moorhens, stilts, egrets, and various small neighborhood birds such as myna birds, doves, and cardinals among others as you walk or run along. The mountains are beautiful, and the trail is very flat and easy. It's about 1.5 miles one way. Lots of people use this trail for exercise. Don't go off the trail because the marsh is a nature preserve. It has no bathrooms to my knowledge. It's really just a short and lovely walking trail.

“Natural brachish water marsh”
Reviewed 26 October 2013

A historic marsh with plenty of wildlife, this marsh has numerous historic sites on its banks that remind us it was a revered area for the Hawaiians for centuries before WWII, and the establishment of Kaneohe Marine Corps Station--which rapidly changed the face of the Kaneohe-Kailua areas. An elevated walk way on top of a protective levy offers an easy walk and up-close observation. A good choice for nature lovers who desire an easy walk in the outdoors.
