“Mama's Meatballs”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

Overpriced noodles. Dinner for two (just entrees), without beverage other than water, without salad, garlic bread ($5.90!), appetizer or dessert is nearly $50. Nevertheless, this writer will return.
Stylishly appointed with Assaggio embossed white table cloths, and Mark Brown paintings everywhere, this upscale venue has the feeling of a New York city hot spot.
The menu selection is extensive, providing seafood, chops, chicken and vegetarian entrees. Service (Keegan and Michael) is exceedingly friendly and attentive. The food is terrific; tastes like an Italian grandmother who lives only to cook attends to the kitchen. Portions are generous.
Food is indeed terrific, it's the price of noodles that is difficult to swallow.

“Mama Mia! This is the best Chicken Marsala in the Western Hemisphere”
Reviewed 19 March 2014

If you like Chicken Marsala, then you must make a pilgrimage to Assagio's as often as possible, because it simply is the best you will EVER find. BUT WAIT! For a few dollars more, you can get the double portion, and have some for tomorrow night, too. It is served not with pasta, but with succulent roasted potatoes and crowned with an ample serving of mushrooms in a delicate Marsala sauce. It doesn't get any better than this!

Oh yes it does! The other entrees on the menu scream out: "Eat me!" And on occasion I have, They are equally fantastic. The salad comes tossed with chunks of cheese and croutons and is one of my favorites.

The desserts, including creme brulee, finish off a meal that will be long remembered, necessitating countless more pilgrimages to this altar of edible delights.

This is one of our two favorite Italian restaurants in the world.

“Top Notch”
Reviewed 14 March 2014 via mobile

We are Italian and appreciate good Italian food. We appreciated Assiago's! The menu was both creative and extensive. I loved the Sicilian Chicken. We had a complicated party of ten, but the server and service was on top of everything. Highly recommended.

“Good Food, Good Waiter, Snooty Hostess”
Reviewed 10 March 2014 via mobile

My wife and I arrived at 5:25pm (the restaurant opens at 5:30), without a reservation. The restaurant was empty, but the hostess offered to seat us right next to the bar. I asked if we could have one of the 5 or 6 tables by the windows, and she said those tables were for reservations. I asked when the first reservation was and she said 6:00. I told her we would be gone by then. She reluctantly escorted us to one of the window tables.
The waiter soon showed up and did an excellent job. I ordered the Sicilian Chicken and my wife has Raviolli. Both were excellent. Overall, a good experience, but that hostess needs some training in tact and diplomacy.

“Tasty Italian food in Kailua, Hawaii”
Reviewed 9 March 2014

We're staying in Kailua, Hawaii for the first time. A friend (who lives in Kailua) of a friend highly recommended Assaggio, especially the chicken with anchovies and olio. Off we went and we ended up mostly agreeing with his recommendation. It has an upscale but casual ambiance. White linen tablecloths, booths and tables, a bar, takes reservations but fits you in if you didn't make one. We tried the made at table side Caesar salad and it was tasty. Not too salty and lots of garlic. I had the special fish of the day with prawns, my husband ordered the recommended chicken dish. Both were tasty in different ways. Lots of flavor. Fish was very fresh. Portions were too big. Next time we would order a salad and split an entree. Merit was our waiter and he is quite good. Attentive without being bothersome. Skip the bread. While fresh, it was flavorless and had no texture to enjoy. We were so full from dinner we skipped dessert. And not only are you eating Italian food in Hawaii ... The restaurant is owned and run by a Vietnamese family! It's a delightful blending of cultures. And yes, it's a bit expensive but we thought our meal worth it. Total was about $80.00 for two with a glass of wine each, salad and entrees.
