“Life changing, high quality sushi”
Reviewed 9 March 2014

Maybe this is the mainland talking but the sushi I experienced from Noboru was the best sushi I have ever had. I had a basic spicy tuna roll and a rainbow roll and both were simply the best sushi I've ever had. The fish was incredibly fresh and I felt the quality was excellent for the price. Like any sushi joint, mainland or otherwise, you pay for the quality, but I would pay what I paid time and time again for that quality.

“Be patient”
Reviewed 11 December 2013

This small restaurant needs help with their service. When the place is not even full the waitresses ask you to be patient because the kitchen is overwhelmed. (If give the service a rating for "very good" because they are trying really hard). If you wait you will be pleasantly surprised, because the food is quite good and the price is worth it. The atmosphere is nice and private.

“Excellent experience!”
Reviewed 15 September 2013

We had an excellent combination plate with excellent Tepura and high quality tonkatsu. We also had a special mushroom soup which is apparently only available between September and November. This is a serious Japanese restaurant. the beer was a Japanese-style stout which was also very good. Overall the experience was really great. I had a recommend

“Good Japanese Food”
Reviewed 13 July 2013

I've been to Noboru twice since the in-law family lives in Kailua and both times I thought the food excellent. Sure it’s a bit pricey but the quality is quite good considering the rather utilitarian ambiance. The dining room is narrow with one area with a counter serving as a bar. A sign reads that there are Sake classes held here which sounds fun and judging from the certificates on the wall and the sake bottle display, taught by a well qualified instructor.
Last time we came on a holiday weekend and the place was full, several groups leaving after they saw the wait or got tired of waiting to be acknowledged. The owner wasn't working so the staff, overwhelmed, let the hosting/greeting duties slide. We waited patiently at the bar, flagging the waiter down to order a couple of beers. He was certainly friendly and helpful but was so busy running up and down the dining room helped by a young waitress who was more Hawaiian in her service philosophy, quite helpful, sweet and friendly. I had the shaiso combination which had small portions of misoyaki butterfish, maguro sashimi, tempura which had 2 shrimp and a variety of vegetables, a batter fried piece of fish on a stick (yes on a stick) and a grilled shoyu chicken thigh, deboned, half of a California Roll, and a small bowl of stewed vegetables. All this served with rice, soup, small salad and pickles for $28. The butterfish was delicious, sashimi fresh, chicken tasty, and the tempura hot and light. The rest pretty good as well.
Other things ordered was the combination shoyu chicken and the sukiyaki and by all accounts, quite tasty. I'd recommend this but I'm afraid that I'd end up waiting an extra 30 minutes waiting for you to finish your meal.
