First ask yourself the question- “what kind of traveler am I?”
If your answer is that you need luxury accommodations on the beach with towel changes and beds made daily. Restaurants on site for quick dining and spa options with a workout room- then no, this is not the place for you.
If your answer is that you are an adventure traveler who uses a home base to check in and clean up. One within walking distance of the beach and town to patronize local establishments and a half hour away from almost anywhere on Oahu- then yes, you are at the right place.
Papaya Paradise is “old school cool”. We found the accommodations to be perfect for us and the price fit our budget perfectly. Our room was neatly apportioned with white rattan furniture and a very comfy bed. Each night we slept well.
The shared kitchen was an excellent place for the food we purchased at the Whole Foods that is just 5 minutes away. Bob’s famous coffee was a welcome treat each morning as we sat on the lanai for breakfast. The backyard is peaceful and a great place to start, plan and end your days.
Jeanette is the best resource for local information. Her beta on Maunawili Falls was much more accurate than mine. She recommended attractions that weren’t even included in my guide book. Her reference pile is up-to-date and proved more helpful than my Guide Book purchased on line.
PB&B also provides some of those things that can nickel and dime a traveler. They have beach mats, towels and boogie boards for use. If you forgot something like bug spray they’ve got your back.
We were wholly unprepared for the magnitude of the beauty of Oahu. I didn’t anticipate falling in love with the island. I attribute much of this to feeling welcome and at home with the Martzs. My only regret is that we didn’t spend more than 4 nights there.
