“Are you Papaya Paradise worthy?”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

First ask yourself the question- “what kind of traveler am I?”
If your answer is that you need luxury accommodations on the beach with towel changes and beds made daily. Restaurants on site for quick dining and spa options with a workout room- then no, this is not the place for you.

If your answer is that you are an adventure traveler who uses a home base to check in and clean up. One within walking distance of the beach and town to patronize local establishments and a half hour away from almost anywhere on Oahu- then yes, you are at the right place.
Papaya Paradise is “old school cool”. We found the accommodations to be perfect for us and the price fit our budget perfectly. Our room was neatly apportioned with white rattan furniture and a very comfy bed. Each night we slept well.

The shared kitchen was an excellent place for the food we purchased at the Whole Foods that is just 5 minutes away. Bob’s famous coffee was a welcome treat each morning as we sat on the lanai for breakfast. The backyard is peaceful and a great place to start, plan and end your days.
Jeanette is the best resource for local information. Her beta on Maunawili Falls was much more accurate than mine. She recommended attractions that weren’t even included in my guide book. Her reference pile is up-to-date and proved more helpful than my Guide Book purchased on line.

PB&B also provides some of those things that can nickel and dime a traveler. They have beach mats, towels and boogie boards for use. If you forgot something like bug spray they’ve got your back.

We were wholly unprepared for the magnitude of the beauty of Oahu. I didn’t anticipate falling in love with the island. I attribute much of this to feeling welcome and at home with the Martzs. My only regret is that we didn’t spend more than 4 nights there.

I am grateful to have been welcomed by Jeanette and Bob at their beautiful home.
Jeanette made everything so easy, from booking the stay and offering directions to begin with. I spent wonderful 3 days at Papaya Paradise leaving the busy Waikiki. I felt like I was part of the family yet had my privacy as well. Being able to interact with locals is a wonderful experience. Staying here beats staying at a hotel any day. The personalised and attentive care here is just priceless. It is positioned very well, with buses just around the corner. It is a nice leisure walk to the beach and equally to Kailua shops, and Wholefoods.
I will be back and highly recommend to everyone!
Thank you again Jeanette and Bob!

Just spent 10 days at Papaya Paradise with Bob and Jeannette as hosts. They were so friendly and fun to talk to. Accommodations were really nice and private. It's really a short trip from there to the beach, or to town. The neighborhood is quiet and the pool is wonderful! We would definitely come back again and would recommend this place to anyone!

During our two weeks in the Hawaiian Islands, we stayed in 3 very different Bed and Breakfast places. The Papaya Paradise was our first stop. We were greeted like family by Jeanette and Bob and felt very welcome. Jeanette helped us plan our days so we could get the most out of each one. She was very helpful and suggested some things we didn't know from our travel guides. Bob provided us with endless coffee and tea for breakfast and also enjoyed conversations with the Navy personnel in our group. The B and B has coolers to loan if you want to take a picnic lunch on your outings. The two rooms for guests are in a separate area from the main house with private entrance through the guest kitchen. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean, large enough, and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable. The fan setting on the air conditioner was just perfect for us in February.
With the little time we had to spend lounging at the Papaya Paradise, we did enjoy a view from the covered porch of the yard, mountains and pool. We would stay here again and highly recommend it.

Room Tip: There are two rooms offered at this B and B. Larger bed in one room and a double and single in the o...

Everything went well. We booked the dates and sent a deposit off in the mail and they received it very quickly.

We went with our two teenage daughters and stayed 7 nights. We had one room and they had the other. Our goal in renting a B&B was to give us an economical base-camp to explore the island from and this place fit the bill very nicely. It is close to the beach and there are a lot of restaurants and a few grocery stores close by.

The place was very clean and well kept and served its purpose. We would happily stay there again.

Stayed 3 nights here recently. Comfortable room with a lovely pool and garden to relax in. Jeanette and Bob are super friendly hosts and were very welcoming. Good location, bus stop only 2 houses away (great if you don't have a car like I did) and only a 10 minute walk to town. Maybe a 15 minute walk to the beach but I hired a bike to get around. Highly recommend this B&B if you are after a nice quiet place to relax and unwind. I really enjoyed my stay.

We've just returned from staying at Papaya Paradise. Bob and Jeanette are wonderful hosts, the rooms are really comfortable, there is a great pool and the price includes breakfast of cereal and toast with endless tea and coffee. This is the perfect peaceful place to stay if you don't want to be in a resort hotel just a few minutes from the best beach on the island.

The town on Kailua has plenty of places to eat in the evening and also lots of companies offering activities like kayak hire.

We had a wonderful time and can't recommend it enough, we'll certainly stay again when we're next back in O'ahu,

Debbie, Paul, Mike and Mavis
