My partner and I were at the Ko'olau Ballrooms to attend a wedding, and overall we felt that this is a nice event space except it had power lines running through it.
The location is great, sitting in the valley of the Ko'olau Mountains, and the views are spectacular. I will say that because it's not on the Honolulu, gets more rain and clouds being on the Windward side. There was a stark change of weather even while we are there.
That being said, I'm only really reviewing the event space, as we didn't actually play golf. It was relatively easy to get to, right off the H3, so that's always good. There are different event spaces located at the Ko'olau Ballrooms, some have more sweeping views than others. But I will say that the huge electric power lines running through even where the ceremony spaces is rather distracting. I noticed during the ceremony, but then afterwards once people were taking pictures, the power lines don't obscure pictures of the Valley, which is the most important aspect.
The staff at the Ko'olau Ballrooms were uniformly friendly, and the event itself went off without a hitch. It's not the most luxurious or picturesque or touristy setting for a wedding you can have in Hawaii, but I'm sure it's 1/4 of the price of anything on Waikiki.
