No better view on Oahu. Peaceful luxurious perch above the sandbar and Kaneohe Bay.

“Glorious views, comfortable accommodation , and well located for our needs”

The rental is a studio flat comprising kitchen, bedroom and living room in a spacious open plan arrangement. There are large picture windows with views over the bay so if you wake early you will see a magnificent sunrise from your bed. On the floor below there is a small swimming pool, but plenty of room for two or a small group. The owners live upstairs - Trini is the main person to speak to and is very friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. However we did have some trouble paying our deposit as they only accepted cheques which we could not send from UK except as an international draft, which took ages to arrange and mail to them - I hope they will accept bank transfers in future. The other issue to note is that there is a very steep driveway to the house - not for nervous drivers, but possibly fun for others. Going up is fairly easy to adjust to after a couple of tries - though you feel like an astronaut strapped perpendicular to their vehicle, but it was slightly nerve-racking launching yourself off the yard to go down, with no visibility of the road until you go over the edge, and walls either side to dent or scratch the inaccurate one's vehicle. We'd still go back in spite of that, but choose our hire car carefully.

“Oasis of beauty & calm”

The view from Hale Ikena is probably one of the best on the windward side of Oahu. I was impressed with all the comforts that they have provided, from small details to the private pool. The unit has a spaciousness that I have never before encountered in a rental; the kitchen is well-equipped; the bathroom is set up conveniently. There is a lovely patio that adjoins the unit and is perfect for morning tea. Trina is a welcoming host and I enjoyed talking with her. Her plantings around the unit are gorgeous and representative of Hawaii's flora. I hope to visit with her again in 2015.

“Beautiful View, Beautiful Stay”

We prefer to stay in Kaneohe when we come to Oahu, because it makes us feel more like we actually 'live' in the islands. Between Kailua and Kaneohe, we can find everything we need, like farmer's markets, beautiful beach, 24 hour gym, good restaurants, well-stocked grocery stores and air conditioned libraries in the area.
But we're picky - the place we stay has to have a full kitchen (or close to it), and bedroom and wi-fi. We found everything we needed, plus a lovely pool, at Hale Ikena and gracious hosts, to boot.
It's on a hill, up a steep driveway, but after getting up the driveway, and back down successfully the first time, you'll be a pro at it.
In addition to all the amenities I mentioned, you also get a magnificent view of the bay, from sunrise to sunset, rain or shine, and it's beautiful at every moment.
Our hosts, Jack and Trini, answered all our questions and helped us settle in. We found everything we needed in the kitchen to cook at home. The ceiling fans, plus the breeze on the mountainside, kept us cool, even on hot days. One more thing - it's quiet there. Hale Ikena is just right for a couple, and we look forward to coming back.

“Perfection”

This property is located on the east side of Ohau, with stunning views of Kanehoe Bay. Massive windows let you greet the sunrise every morning. This property is part of a duplex (owners on top), with your own private access to your own pool downstairs. The place is large, clean (albeit ants that fiercly chase any crumble or dirty disher you leave on the counter so don't leave it out!) and peaceful. Wonderful quiet beaches are located on this side of the island, with a mere short drive to Honolulu if need be (20 mins). Traffic can be a pain on the ENTIRE island so avoid rush hour in the morning and afternoon. The owners are very helpful and happily assists with any questions. I highly recommend having a rental with this property. I am definately coming back!

“Outstanding view of bay and sunrise, clean, quiet, roomy and centrally located”

This was a very good place to stay, but is not a One bedroom as advertised. It is a large studio apartment with a room divider that partially divides off the bedroom area. We stayed here with our two teenage daughters, and it was a bit tight but Jack and Trini were very accommodating by offering a blow up mattress after we found out our oldest daughter would be joining us on the trip. They also provided plenty of towels for the beach, and even candles when the power went out during a rainstorm. Pay attention when parking,, as we dented our rental car on a rock there.
It is very private, having it's own patio and pool areas. It was very clean and up to date, and we were able to use their boogie boards for the beach. It's only about a 30 minute drive to Honolulu, and not too much farther to the North Shore. You will have to drive a few miles to get to stores or restaurants, as there is nothing nearby. My favorite part was sitting on the lanai in the morning, drinking coffee, and watching the sunrise over the small island in the distance. Overall it was a very good place to stay that we would gladly recommend.
