“A Great Family Resort”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 December 2013

We just returned from our first Thanksgiving away from home and we're really glad we chose Aulani.
The pools are great and there are so many resort activities that you really never need to leave the property.
Rainbow Reef (the resort saltwater snorkeling area) was a great way to introduce kids (and adults) to snorkeling. The Lazy river and water slides were great as well. There are a good number of pools and even some that are Adults Only. All in all the resort is definitely 4.5 stars.
We stayed in a standard room with an ocean view (which means we were on a high floor). The rooms are OK, but nothing extraordinary. Our children had their own "spa day" and absolutely loved it!
Parking is $35/day, need I say more?
The food at the restaurants are ok, some great meals (breakfast) and others (lunch) not so great. Thanksgiving offerings at the sit down restaurant ('ama 'ama) was less than memorable. But sitting in an open air dining room listening to the waves and island music made it tolerable.
Overall I would definitely recommend this resort for people with children. We plan on going back next year for Thanksgiving, we just won't order the Turkey and Stuffing.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor for the best ocean views.

This was our first Disney experience - traveled with my husband & two kids aged 8 and 10 we were all very very impressed.

We booked a pool/garden view studio and as there was garden renovations and scaffolding directly outside our room we were upgraded to the 15th floor for an ocean view studio. We went from a bit disappointed to 'over the moon'. They aim to "exceed your expectations" and the staff at this hotel and the provisions did this in many ways. This was facilitated by the bell boy who has assisted with luggage and he was just the start of so many wonderful staff. I would go so far as to say all the staff here have the best customer service attitude and are the best at what they do.

The free starlight show was fantastic and my daughter and i enjoyed a screening of cinderella as on the lawns one night as well.

I have never seen so many lifeguards at a resort before - I felt so secure about the kids that I didnt feel I had to follow them around all day (and this is the first time i have felt like that). The lifeguards are also very very competent and attentive to all thats going on in the many pools and around the lazy river.

Whilst the price to stay was quite steep - the prices of food and drinks, gift shop, spa etc were all very affordable. You can buy the refillable cups for $16.95 adn get as much soft drink tea, coffee and hot chocolate as you need for duration of stay. The character breakfast was a bit pricey as well and we only did that once - but it is a must do for one time.

The whole resort is very new and clean and I cant say enough good things about it.

We had the best service from concierge staff who assisted us with a hotel transfer hiccup and sourced tickets to the Hawaii College Football for us as well.

Never before when checking out of a hotel have staff offered for us to stay and use facilities for the rest of the day and to use the guest lounge which has lockers, computers, showers as many pool and bath towels as you need as well as a dryer to dry wet clothes/bathers before you travel home. I was very impressed by this hotel and I think I am quite hard to impress.

Room Tip: Ocean View Studios are well worth the extra - but view of the resort is actually more impressive tha...

Just returned from Thanksgiving week at Aulani for the second year in a row. We like the changes they've made to the pool areas, and the new pool in particular. Staying on DVC points in a studio villa is perfect for my 10-year old and me, but I'm again disappointed by Disney's "cheapness." For a six night stay they provide 2 days worth of coffee and disposable dishes in the kitchenette. There is a notice inside the cupboard door that additional supplies will be provided for a fee. REALLY? We like to have breakfast in our room every morning, for both the convenience and the cost savings, but buying disposable wares and a kitchen knife with my groceries at Safeway is not right. They should provide ample supplies for two people for the length of stay - or at least replenish on the day-4 trash & towel service.

Terrific vacation for our multi-generational family.

We had a two-bedroom villa, which while pricey, gave us what we needed to carry out our stay with an infant and a three-year-old. A washer and dryer cut down on our luggage requirements. The full kitchen allowed us to snack or breakfast at reasonable cost and to keep with the children’s needs. The small shopping center across the street had a store with basic necessities and a good array of carry-out prepared foods. If you have a rental car, a Target and other large stores are fairly close with prices close to those on the mainland.

We did the character breakfast. Buffet food was extensive, and the Disney characters spent as much time as needed for family photos. The quick meals available at the pool areas were reasonably priced for a resort of this caliber.

Keep in mind that this is not a Disney amusement park. The characters are there, and there is the usual good service from the Disney “cast members”, but no overload. Varied activities scheduled throughout the day and evening were not at all hokey, but entertaining and educational. The children’s center was amazing! Even if you don’t have children, check it out during the morning open house.

Only small quibbles…. Parking is $35 per day whether you use self-parking or valet service. The valet folks will really push you to use their service, which will work unless you have a need for several in-and-outs, in which case the self-park facility may be the better and quicker choice. Also, billing was a disaster. Check yours.

One huge plus — no dreaded resort fees at the Aulani. Thanks, Disney.

Great setting for a family vacation where every family member enjoys themselves. Gorgeous ocean front rooms, plenty of kids activities. I really enjoyed the beach boot camp & yoga. The only thing i didn't love was the location. If it was the North shore, I would rate it as perfection.

We spent 3 days at Oahu and 3 days at Mauii but our 2 days at Aulani Disney is highlight of kids Thanksgiving week vacation. While everyone from Texas to the east coast are under a blanket of snow, we are enjoying perfect sunny weather here in Hawaii. Resort is pricey but paying for the Disney experience which is priceless if you have 3 young boys. Spent most of the day at the beach and later half of the day at the pools.
