The one thing I would say about this resort is it's not overdone with Disney. Plenty of little touches, but if you’re traveling without kids you won’t feel like you’re in a cartoon. Location is away from all the hustle of Waikiki and yet we felt like everything was easy to get too. I would recommend renting a car if you’re going to do excursion outside the resort or to just check out the island. So peaceful and relaxing. Beautiful views from the pool. Calm beach for the little ones. Huge rooms (we had 2-bedroom suite for 6 people). I felt the food was a bit overpriced especially when you are trying to feed kids and teenaged boys, but we went to the local Target and stocked up our kitchen and it was great. I will definitely be back here.

Stayed over the weekend at Aulani, enjoyed their beautiful facilities. This Disney resort does Hawaii and Disney tastefully, with subtle cues everywhere from the design of the place to the smallest details you'll find around the place. There is a lot of effort put into the design, atmosphere, and service you'll find at the place, which you won't find anywhere else on Oahu.

I'm personally very finicky about the cleanliness of hotels and the age of their built environment., but at Aulani the thought had never even crossed my mind. Service is better then anything you'll find in Waikiki beach. It may be a bit expensive, but even compared to the JW Marriott next door it's well worth it. You really do get what you pay for at this Disney resort.

Room Tip: High floors (stayed on the 16th) have amazing views: mountain, ocean, or even the pool area. Elevato...

Let me start by saying: I am not a Disney fan. Foreign-born hubby and I like to think of ourselves as counter-culture. However, with two young American girls, Disney is unavoidable. First time we went to a Disney property was a stopover at DisneyWorld on a cross-country trip. Despite the lights and flash, we soon realized that DIsney knows how to take care of families.

With that in mind, I heard about Aulani and thought it might be a perfect combination of Hawaiian aloha spirit (read: leisurely island vibe), and Disney well-honed family entertainment, (read: the machine). They did not disappoint.

From the arrival (care for a lei, kokui nuts, or menehune mask?), to check-in, to Aunty, her staff and her Beach House, to our mountainview room that was impeccable, to the spa and the rain showers, to the character breakfast, to the awesome interactive ipad adventure tours---IT IS SIMPLY PERFECT.

Yes, it costs $$. But in comparison to the JW Marriott that shares the bay or any other property on Oahu, well worth it for the unique offerings.

Tips to increase enjoyment and/or save $$--buy alcohol and snack items at the Target before your arrival; pay for a spa treatment and spend a good 2-3 hours at the outdoor relaxation area; get to Aunty's Beach House at 9am (or when they open) to sign the kids up for any desired activites as they do fill up; pick up the Daily Iwa at 9/10pm at the Bell Desk so you don't have to wait until next morning to find out the next day's activities; if you book character breakfast, feel free to advise the host if your kid has a specific character they want to see as they do a good job of accomodating requests.

In short, my family had a great time and almost (almost!) bought a timeshare just so we could go back!

Enjoy!

I stayed there in October 2012 and I just loved it. The room was very big and clean. The Bathroom was HUGE! Elevator were fast. The staff was very nice, funny and smile all the time. The pool, waterslide, lazy river, beach everything was perfect and always very very clean. The food was a little bit pricey but quite good. Yes it's a Disney Hotel but it's not screaming Disney. It's a little bit low profile I would say. And this is the perfect hotel for kids and even teenagers.

This resort actually made me consider signing up for their timeshare. Like the other reviews say, "First class Disney treatment all the way". They make you feel welcomed and really show you the true Hawaiian spirit. It is a bit pricey, but when you consider all the amenities you get, it's a great deal. If you're staying for more than a couple days, I would recommend hitting up a grocery store before your stay and bring your own food.

Room Tip: Get the villa - they have full kitchens and in room laundry

My husband and I spent 4 nights at Aulani for a 'year' later honeymoon. I was a bit hesitant at first thinking what are 2 grown adults w/o kids gonna do at Aulani? But we have friend who lives in the area and wanted to stop over after our trip to Waikoloa so we booked it.
My parents tagged along although they had booked their Hilton points in downtown Waikiki. We dropped their stuff off first at Hilton Ha Village then headed to Ko'olina to check us in and have dinner at AMA AMA.
Let's just say when we arrived I could see how grand and beautiful Aulani was, tastefully decorated, magical, not in a over stimulating, greeted with Leis, fast check in, room and grounds were gorgeous.
My parents immediately cancelled Hilton Ha Village (have you seen their rooms and grounds lately? Way back when they were top notch, circa 1980 - uh but now not so much, overcrowded cramped and old).
Dinner at AMA AMA was fantastic, the best meal, the best service and chef ever.
Pool was fantastic, as a almost 40 ur old, I felt like a kid again going around the lazy river and down the slides.
Spa was fantastic and relaxing, the lomi lomi massage was excellent. They also let you take home a oil bath salt that smelled so great.
Room was clean and comfortable.
For those that are complaining about cost of food, well you must know you are in a resort with resort prices. We only ate AMA AMA that one night, the rest of time we ate in the town of Kapolei, Waikiki, etc - try Zippys for affordable meals, pho factory, side street restaurant, boots and kimos, monkey pod, sensei, there is food everywhere, you just have to look on urbanspoon or here on trip advisor for tips.
