We were invited as Marriott members to try the Ko Olina for five days at a discounted rate. The property is very nice, but the room we were assigned was anything but warm and friendly. Staff were good, and the two restaurants we tried were OK, too. The beach views and walking areas quite nice but I think there are other hotels on Oahu which do a better job of making guests feel welcome.

Room Tip: For the same money I would stay at a different beachfront hotel.

Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club gets 5 stars for having one of the most amazing views of the Hawaiian sunset. My family and I were on the 11th floor of one of their towers and the view from up there was just absolutely breathtaking and spectacular. The rooms are pretty spacious with a kitchen and living area with a large bathroom and bed area. I can not complain but who wants to sit up in their room all day anyway while you are on vacation? Also free wi-fi!

The hotel itself was very clean and the staff were friendly and hospitable. There are bbq grills around the pools so bring over your kabobs and get your grill on! Be aware if you swim at the pool to make sure you have your pool wrist bands on because the pool police will come and find you. I liked the fact that they had 3 different pools. 2 for the kiddos and then another area for the quiet relaxation zen zone with the kid free hot tubs.

Went to Longboards to grab a snack and drinks and literally spent $30 on 3 orders of garlic fries and 2 sodas. Pricey but I figured what do you expect for a resort. Nonetheless at least the fries were tasty and fresh and I got to sit and enjoy the view of the cove along with the wonderful service the employees at Longboards gave us.

My last day at the hotel we had to evacuate one of the pools because unfortunately someone had a "poo accident" on the water slide! YIKES! I hope that doesn't happen again!!

All in all had a wonderful experience here at Ko Olina beach club and wouldn't mind coming back here during my next visit to Hawaii! Mahalo!

We are owners but traded our unit for a 1 bedroom villa Ocean View Penthouse. We got a villa with an absolutely amazing views. On the 16th floor of the Naia building (newest) we could see the entire resort, our lagoon and up the coast. The resort is beautiful and everyone we met was friendly. The additon of Ko Olina Station restaurants, stores and markets makes staying here so much easier. We made good use of the free shuttle service.

The villa was top notch and everything worked and looked great. Although I have to say, the refrigerator was not my favorite for easy ice cube access (how petty is this complaint?) We were celebrating a special occasion for which we received special wrist bands. Many of the staff asked us our occasion and wished us well. The resort was near or at capacity and we found chairs everyday at the waterslide pool. We didn't have the same luck at the quiet pool. We used the hot tubs as night and the grills were always busy with everyone enjoying talking to fellow grillers. The addition of the firepits is nice and a good place to sit and enjoy the evening.

The resort itself was always busy and between the fountains and the pools it was somewhat noisy into the night. Parking underneath the building was never an issue. Can't wait to stay again and will probably upgrade again too. Great resort and the area of Ko Olina continues to improve.

There were plenty of free activities and the kids seemed to be having a great time while the parents could get a few minutes of peace. The only downside seems to be the food and drinks available around the pool. It's limited, not great and a bit expensive. The good news is that you are free to bring your own food and drinks (including alcoholic beverages) as long as you don't use glass.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor regardless of the view.

Had the pleasure of being a guest at the Marriott Ko Olina Beach Club. Our group consisted of 2 families. Arrived on a Tuesday only to be greeted by a warm and welcoming Manager who stepped out of her office to help check us in. It was evident that the reception/front desk employee was dealing with a difficult time share "member". The employee displayed courtesy and professionalism to the member even though she was not being treated the same. Nevertheless, the receptionist needed little assistance handling the member and therefore the manager was kind enough to assist us at another desk. It is greatly appreciated to know that this resort functions with kindness in their hearts. NOT YOUR VEGAS STYLE FRONT DESK so try not to be in a hurry!!! If you are.....then go to Vegas!! Check in was easy and although only one of our rooms were ready, arrangements were made to keep us comfortable until the second room was ready. We were even greeted by a kind concierge desk to help us prepare for that evening's luau. They were sweet to welcome all the ladies in our group with flowers and pins for our hair...even the 9 yr. old! The resort is beautiful and well kept. Amazing to see and a lot of pools to become familiar with. Be careful though... If you see a sign that reads "slippery when wet", BELIEVE IT!! The grounds see a few tropical sprinkles throughout the day so it can take awhile for the pathways to dry. Besides, who wants to run when strolling in paradise is so much more relaxing?
The pools do have hours of operation. The first night we were a little disappointed that the kids' favorite pool closed first. After talking to the pool staff we realized not all the pools close at the same time and here's why...
This hotel is dedicated to clean pools. So they clean them every night. The largest pool is closed at 9pm and it takes over an hour to clean. Then the Jacuzzis are closed and cleaned. Then the kiddie pools and family pools with the last pool closing at 11pm. The crews work all night to finish so that by 7am the pools can be tested and reopened by 9am.
After finding this out, my husband and I appreciated the staff and their dedication even more. We even got into a routine with the kids. Swim and snorkel in the lagoons until 9am...Perfect!! The turtles and fish love to come out early in the morning and greet the guests. The 9 yr. old found it exciting to swim with a turtle during her first attempt at snorkeling!! There are showers as you come off the beach so we didn't have to make the kids go up to the room to rinse off the salt water before going into the pool. As they swam, I made breakfast in the villa and that's how every morning started.

Other reviews for this resort discussed room views. Read a lot of bad reviews and complaints. I have to admit that I was a little nervous about what my room view would be. Especially since it was not disclosed to us until a week before our arrival that requests were unable to be granted due to the high number of guests checking in that same week. We were also informed that "owners" get the higher floors and better views. Let me just say, we are not time share owners or members. So when we entered our room... we found the view was fabulous!!! We were not on a high floor but it was more than we expected! The mountain and ocean views were picturesque. The grounds are quiet and the rooms were perfect for us. We were so appreciative that our balconies did not face a parking garage and headlights were not looking back at us!! If I had a complaint, it would not be about the room but instead about the resident below us who refused to follow the NO SMOKING rules and signs. This old lady was practically hanging off her balcony just to get a few puffs. Incredible!! BTW...make sure your sliding glass doors are properly closed if you turn on the air conditioning. The A/C will not turn on until the doors are closed. We found that problem to be an easy fix. Otherwise the rooms are fantastic. My sister's room unfortunately was in the next tower so it forced us to explore the grounds when we went to meet up with her family. Her room and tower were just as nice as ours so don't believe that there's one tower better than the other. The staff do their best to discourage smoking on the property so I appreciated it when they kindly asked guest to not smoke at pools or BBQ stations.

Speaking of the BBQ stations... There's three areas. Although that doesn't seem like enough, it was. I am a firm believer that if you are courteous to others, the same courtesy will be returned to you. Thankfully that seemed to be the understanding at all the BBQ stations. The one thing to know beforehand, though, is that if you happen to use any of the BBQ utensils at the station, leave the dirty ones on the countertops and the clean ones on the rack. The kitchen staff comes around often looking to replace utensils. If they see the racks have utensils hanging they continue to the next area looking for dirty ones to replace. The staff is very good at rotating out dirty utensils.

I also read other reviews that complained about the bars, restaurants, parking and activities. Don't believe everything you read. It's what you make of it. We saved a lot of money just going to the grocery store and Costco. We ate out 4 times with the steakhouse being the most expensive...but worth it!! OH SO GOOD! Longboards had a special that if you bought a specialty drink in their souvenir glass, any refill was $2-$4 off depending on the drink and they seem to have a happy hour. The resort has sooooo many activities for anyone who did not feel like leaving the resort. Be sure to read them. They're usually posted at the front desk, information booth and in the elevators. Grandma took part in a few and found them worthwhile...especially since 90% of them were Free! Parking was not an issue and even though the resort was at max capacity, we didn't feel it. Always had parking near the elevators. Always found a beach chair. Always found an open elevator and always had a seat at any bar or restaurant we walked into.

Now if you are looking for a few tips to help with your stay, here you go...
-If you get self parking, especially near the Nai'a tower, there's always parking on the lowest level. We always found a spot. Complaining about the parking fee is foolish. Hotels in the area and in the busier parts of the island charge the same if not more. Valet and self park are the same cost. If you happen to not find a parking spot, notify valet. They are helpful.
-If you want to avoid the "pool towel exchange" fiasco, opt out of the exchange program at the front desk during check in. How it works is they charge $25 upfront and reimburse you when you check out... considering you returned the towels borrowed. It's easier to refuse to use resort pool towels and always carry around your own beach towel that way you do not have to worry about being responsible for a resort towel. You'll find it amazing how many people take the pool towels with them to the grocery stores, the state beaches, the parks, shopping and to the trunks of their car! Yeah, thanks people...that's why the resort had to start the pool towel exchange. Besides, who goes to Hawaii without a beach towel??
-Courtesy goes a long way. We met a lot of really nice and friendly people. Both with the staff and other guests. Making it easy to point out the really annoying, attention seeking, selfish "cater-to-me" guest and avoid them.
-Expect long lines at the front desk if you decide to check in close to 4pm. Checking in before 2pm may not guarantee your room to be ready but it beats standing in line. The staff helped us realize that while the room was still being prepared we could enjoy the resort and collect the room keys after the check in line disappears. The room assigned to you is not given away and your keys are put away for you until you collect them. They will even hold your luggage for you while you wait. Have a day bag ready (just in case) with a swimsuit and towel. While your luggage is with the Bell Desk, you can enjoy the lagoons or the pools until you are ready to pick up your keys.
-Catch a sunset at least once... it's amazing. The lagoon is the perfect place. No bad spots there.
-Rental cars are helpful. Taxis get really expensive and the free shuttle service is limited to the Ko Olina hotels, Marina and shopping center.

This place is beautiful. It's what we expected and more!! Our family had a fabulous, fantastic, memorable time. Many people write that they cannot wait to return and I now understand why. A vacation is what you make of it and this resort helped us make this trip wonderful!!

Room Tip: Villas are more convenient than a standard room or studio

We are owners at this resort and come every year. Nothing can stop us from coming back. Ko Olina offers a true Hawaii experience with palm trees and calm lagoons while being only a 10 minute ride to affordable restaurants and shopping in Kapolei and only a 40 minute ride (traffic dependent) into Honolulu and all that has to offer (Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, Waikiki). The Beach Club is a huge facility with room for everyone to enjoy without feeling crowded. There are plenty of FREE beach chairs at the lagoon and even the pools have enough chairs (unlike Waikiki hotels). The rooms are spacious and well-equipped. The staff will bring you whatever you need with a smile.
All day long there are activities, most of which are free. They are designed for all ages and the staff mostly seem to enjoy having them. The resort is truly family oriented but has a large quiet pool for adults and plenty of jacuzzis.
The food is a little lacking on the resort but the drinks are great (pricey), and there are plenty of good restaurants within 15 minutes. You should have a rental car to stay here.
There really aren't any drawbacks. Parking is free but can get tight late at night but they will valet your car for you if there no spaces left.
If you can possibly make it here, do it; you will not regret it.

This is a great resort with lots of activities happening each day. The rooms are large and very clean. We loved the pools as well as being able to go to the beach. The free activities such as movie nights for the children were great! We will definitely be back again!

Stayed recently for the 4th of July weekend. Beautifully designed and nicely added activities for the family, ie movies, hula lessons, golf introduction.

But having 2 units and paying $720 per night you would think the small but important parts would be taken care of. One room had a steamer with the rice pot and other didn't. One had a chopping board and other did not. Serving salad utensils, dish towels... one roll toilet paper (not extra but only one). Yes easy to call for these additional items but you would think it would be in place so you don't have to. And you don't want to call in the middle of the night for extra toilet paper... yeah laugh but actually happened... okay we laughed but not to the person stuck in there.

We had a great time, the hotel staff was very friendly and the family enjoyed and relaxed. And it was the family that brought up these inconsistencies...

Oh by the way the steak house called Chucks is not that great for the cost. The Waikiki Chucks cellar is much better for food and cost. Go buy some steaks at Costco (8-10 minute drive) or Safeway (12-15 minutes) and grill your own is my suggestion. Long boards restaurant food is good except the mash potatoes were a bit hard and gummy. Tasted like a mix with fresh potatoes and box (grainy). So if you can cook then come here and enjoy the relaxful atmosphere. If you don't cook there are other choices in the neighborhood.
