“Best Fishing and Best Crew!!!!!”

Live Bait Sportfishing
Reviewed 16 August 2014

A fishing trip we will never forget! What an awesome time! Captain Shannon, Gerald, and Steven, Thank You!. We are a family of four with two teenagers, and this is the perfect way to spend the day in Oahu, HI. Captain Shannon, Gerald, and Steven work so hard to ensure great fishing, including staying past our time paid for, since we were catching later in the day. 450 lbs. of Mahi Mahi and a 170lb. Ahi, in one day, That's some fishing that we will forever remember! I would recommend Live Bait to everyone, these guys are great!!! They make it easy to enjoy the Hawaiian coast and knew how to get us on big fish!!!! -Troy, Nancy, Sierra, T.J. say if you like to fish call these guys!!

Met Shannon and Gerald at the dock at 5 am. Had trouble catching live mackerel but made the best of it anyway. Caught a mahi mahi off of a buoy and then began chasing tuna. This time of year the fish push the bait close to the surface, allowing us to spot and troll through them. We fished hard and caught four fish in the 120-130 pound range. I puked my guts out because I became sea sick but still had a great time. I would go again (even with the sea sickness) and would recommend Live Bait to anyone else wanting to spent a day catching tuna. Good experience and good charter. The equipment and boat are the same as pictured on their webpage.

We were traveling to Hawaii from Texas and wanted to expand our experience with some good fishing. after some good and bad expererience from the past, decided to take a chace with Live bait. Called and made reservation and what an awesome time we had! I don't know how other reviews got the idea of the boat but the boat was nice and clean, and the same boat as on the Web site! Maintained good and was able to experience the fishing excitement and also relax to enjoy the Hawaii Ocean at the same time! The crew was so friendly and the Captain made sure our whole family was enjoying our time. They knew the fishing spots and was able to enjoy the lively fishing! HIghly recommended! They are a little far from Waikiki if you are staying in the city but all worth it!

We have fished off every corner of North America. Gerald, and Steve are some of the best. They did everything they could to get us on the fish, and then pulled out every trick in the book to get the fish on the hook. At one point we had three of the five reels, smokin with tuna on the lines. What a rush, these guys know what they are doing. I would recommend them to anyone who wants one of the best crews there is.... Mahalo to captain Gerald and Steve... We will be coming back again

We traveled to HI for a brief business trip and planned for MONTHS to go fishing with Live Bait Sportfishing while we were there. We spoke to them several times prior to the scheduled day (including the day before our trip) to verify the size of their boat, what they were catching, and what the experience would be like etc.. We SCOURED their website in excitement and rated the potential to deep sea fish off the coast of Hawaii as the absolute pinnacle of our trip. We were so confident in this business that we regularly boasted to friends back home about the fish filets we would so generously share with them when we returned from HI.

When we arrived the morning of our trip, the boat was not the magnificent boat pictured on their website, but a small 20-25ft boat. Their gear was grossly outdated and inadequate and clearly not capable of catching the fish they had repeatedly claimed they were catching. The sea weary captain pictured on the website was no where to be seen and had instead been replaced by two young and clearly hungover 20-something year olds who had no obvious interest in providing us a fun and exciting fishing experience. We abruptly decided to not follow through with the trip, which was a devastating decision given the literal months we had spent envisioning our potential trophy fish. However, we decided that the cost of the trip ($750) was too much to let these kids take us 10 miles out and drop anchor for the next 8 hours to fulfill their responsibilities while we caught nothing. We also subsequently learned there was a small craft advisory that day, which their boat was only marginally larger than and of which they had no apparent knowledge. We only had 2 days left in Hawaii at that point and were not able to book any other charter in time, and thus did not end up fishing in Hawaii after all.

Learn from our mistakes and don't be fooled by the fish and boat displayed on their site or what the tell you over the phone- this is not a reputable business. Spend your money elsewhere.

It truly is sad that our competitor will make someone write a review like this over jealousy. We only have one boat, 31' Bertram, the photo on the website. All the photos of our catches are from our boat and we take great pride to our success over 25 years. Also the Captain the review is talking about does NOT drink alcohol. We never taken a charter out and anchored the boat like they mentioned and it is sad that the tripadvisor would post this when they say they did not go on the boat. That would not be a review in our opinion. We only have few days in the year where we only catch a small type of fish and again, our competitor's jealousy over how much we catch led him to do this. Very sad.
