Just returned from a fantastic trip to Hawaii that ended with a 5-night stay at Hale Nalo in the top floor unit (Zen Treehouse).
I can't say enough great things about this place. The proprietor (Herlinda) is so gracious and provided us with everything we could have asked for. She was always there when we needed anything, but never was intrusive.
We arrived late on our first night and found the place stocked with tropical juices, coffee beans waiting to be ground and a bowl of Bananas, Papayas and Pineapple. There is a full kitchen with all the cooking equipment you'll need (including a coffee grinder).
The place is essentially one huge area with a 15 ft. + high cathedral ceiling, and is divided into sections (kitchen, living area, bedroom, large walk-in closet, bathroom). It is decorated beautifully and feels more like you are staying at a friends house than in a hotel. It is very, very comfortable and we felt right at home instantly.
It is well designed in that you are on the upper level of the "house" but you are not directly above anyone else (the unit is above a "common area"), so we never felt worried that we might be disturbing anyone while we were there.
The grounds of the place are really nice, surrounded by trees and birds. It sounds like you're in a tropical jungle once the sun comes up!
Hale Nalo is located at the end of a quiet, residential street, and is about 100-yards from a small path leading to the beach. And what a beach it is! Waimanalo Beach is a stretch of pristine white sand and the most vibrant blue water you'll ever see. Oh and I almost forgot, the beach is nearly deserted! We were laying on the beach on a Saturday afternoon and saw maybe 7 other people in about 3-hours. Gorgeous. Plus, it's only about 20 mins into Honolulu, so it's really easy to get into town.
Herlinda has shelves stocked with any beach gear you could want (Chairs, beach towels, coolers, boogie boards, grass mats, etc). It's all really convenient.
There is no air conditioning in the Zen Treehouse unit, but we didn't really find the need for it other than one night. It was so windy, we had to shut the windows because things were blowing around inside, and that made it a little bit sticky, but like I said, that was only one night.
The only other thing that is a little bit tricky is the parking situation. You go through a gated driveway and there is limited parking when the place is fully booked. But even that is no big deal as four cars can fit inside the gated area.
Overall, I'd have to say that this was one of the nicest places we've stayed in our travels. It's a beautiful property with great amenities, and a really nice owner. Highly recommended.
