“Awesome Stay-Cation, but not for $120.00”
Reviewed 15 June 2012

Holes in the towels, a little low voltage shock, and an air conditioner that didn't want to stay on….
It was a rainy weekend anyway, but three issues with the room really put a damper on our weekend getaway.... We booked a room to be near a graduation party and to enjoy a stay-cation kicking off Summer 2012.....
1. Armed with our last experience being average we brought our own towels from home and while we didn't need them, when we opened up the floor mat for the bathroom and note several holes in the towel..... ok, I can overlook that, we delve further into the room...
2. There is a alarm clock, but it's got the wire wrapped around it and it's under the night stand.... charming...
3. the worst by far though was. Turn on the AC and it automatically turned itself off an hour later repeatedly... After several calls to the Front Desk about this, and what looked to be a security guard appearing at our door each time, the PROBLEM WASN'T FIXED... so we spent the night waking in sweat to turn the air conditioner BACK ON....
4. The best though, was reaching for an extension wire that was behind the bed to plug a charger into and getting a little electric shock because the cord was cracked… What if I had a child with me? Horror….

The room was what we always expect from Sadie's, just ok. Hard to have a great getaway when you realize that you just spent $120/night for just ok, night sweats and a little shock on top of that…. THEY CAN DO BETTER, I JUST WISH THEY WOULD!

While Sadie's is less than ideal, I can honestly say the Tradewinds is not much better... My experience hasn't been much better there either....

I've stayed at Sadies by the Sea for three weeks in December 2011 and May 2012. It is consistently superior to other hotels where I have stayed. I did stay at the Tradewinds a couple of years ago but found Sadies to have a much better TV system, wireless internet connection and superior food. The service at their restaurant and housekeeping help are both terrific. Tom Drabble pays top dollar to get the freshist fish on the island and they are always prepared professionally. Delicious swordfish, wahoo and mahi. Their sashimi of yellow fin tuna is also superb!

This is the place to stay if you are going to work for the government or at the Starkish cannery because it is so close to those places.

Room Tip: Most rooms face the sea. The view from room 106 is limited because of the old bar in front of the r...

Stayed at Sadie's by the Sea during a recent business trip to American Samoa. Selected this property out of the three available choices on the island primarily because it was the only property with direct access to the beach. The property is in a nice location, however it isn't anything terribly special. Keep in mind that there are a limited amount of property on the island. The rooms are relatively spacious but they are not modern. The beds and bedding are not very comfortable. Bathrooms are older by mainland standards. No special soaps or anything like that. The main plus of the property is that you have access to the beach and is relatively close to the "downtown" area. The staff is relatively friendly and will assist you. The menu of the restaurant (Goat Island Cafe) is relatively limited. If you are looking for a property with an island feel that isn't ultra modern, then Sadie's is your place. The truth is, if you are visiting American Samoa, Sadie's might be one of your best options.

As always we enjoy getting away and staying at Sadies by the Sea with the family. This past weekend we stayed with our off island family and we all had great fun even in the pouring rain! Front Desk gals were awesome and friendly! Planning another weekend away this weekend, rain or shine that's our home away from home! WE love the Island Goat Cafe and the staff.. Tupu and the gang are the best! Thank you Mr. Drabble for such a great place for all to enjoy!

I lived in American Samoa for 2 years and and have stayed in all of the hotels now and then as a "get away". When you are on such a small island traveling 10 miles to "get away" truly accomplishes that. My husband and I rented a room and our 14 year old had a room with two of her girl friends last weekend. We found the rooms clean and comfortable. Great for the standards in this part of the Pacific. The beach and pool were clean and lovely. The setting is a tropical polynesian delight. If anyone wants to get the "feel" of AS, Sadie's by the Sea has it all. Good food, pleasant atmosphere, beautiful mountain views and the Ocean just feet away. You can simply walk from the hotel into the village of Fagatoga and on to Pago Pago and you can see American Samoa and all of it's cultural uniqueness. There is the new Farmers Market, lots of shops, the post office and the American Samoan Museum as well as the port where the cruise ships come in several times a year all steps away. For ecotourism there is the American Samoan National Park, that should not be missed. Tutuila is far from a typical tourist destination. It is a little known treasure that allows a visitor to experience the beauty of the Samoan Islands and the Samoans themselves. Don't miss Tisa's Barefoot Bar further to the east.

If you make a trip to American Samoa, remember to suspend all your expectations. This is not the States or even Hawaii. It has it's own charm that is best discovered if you "go with the flow". The flow is much slower so enjoy it. The Samoans are a very special people and their culture survives in spite of the western trappings. Sadie's by the Sea is a great choice if you are coming this way. Some all suggestions: rent your car from Sadie's it is quite a bit less expensive then renting from the airport (they have a shuttle). The meals are great but check out the local food at the Farmers Market. Don't miss the Sadie Thompson Inn down the street. Plan to relax and truly enjoy a historic landmark of a hotel that the owner Tom Drabble was able to restore from the old Rain Maker Hotel. Expect the unexpected and don't miss the Sunrise over the harbor.

The good things are being right on the beach and the AC worked! The bad things are that there is no on site staff past 2200 so when the kids start partying and banging on the doors at 0200 there is no one around to deal with it. For the same rate stay at the amazing Moano O Sina, I will next time.

Tom-Sadies, Owner at Sadie's by the Sea, responded to this review, 9 May 2012
I have apologized profusely to this guest who certainly experienced a stressful night. We do however have on site security 24/7. We had a High School Prom across the street that night. Several parents rented rooms and left teenagers unsupervised for the evening. This is totally against our policy. Security was run ragged all night long, guests were disturbed and police support did not arrive until after 4:00am.
We will be doing our best to insure that this type of situation does not recur. Even discounting the room does not compensate for this type of disturbance and the experience was totally regrettable.

Like the name says - Sadies by the Sea - and thats what is is, right by the sea.
Good Rooms, Good Service, Good Food, Good Times, and close enough to walk to town if you get bored. Have stayed here a few times and always enjoyed the break.

Room Tip: A great place to take a break away from American Samoa without any flights -
