As a local, we always enjoy stopping in to a place that is open to the public. The Balance Rock Inn has a fabulous new bar, and wonderful menu to stop in and enjoy the beautiful view that this wonderful place offers! As professionals that own business here on the island, this is a perfect little retreat, that makes us want to be a tourist and stay. A very friendly atmosphere, great wine list and bar, and enjoyed quite a few of their tapas. Had the best beet salad, crab cakes, lobster eggrollls, and halibet rangoons. The best service, wonderful view, and can't say enough how we felt life we were away! Wold recommend this wonderful place to all near and far.

Thank you so much for coming in and giving the BRI a try! We 're happy to cater to guests near and far. The Veranda bar offers an excellent menu by local chef Joshua Heikinnen and great cocktails by our mixologists. We look forward to your return!

wonderful place to stay. View from our romm was wonderful. felt like we could have had better help with our bags checking out.the evenings were great out on the patio but got very busy and there was only one bartender so we had to wait a while to get a cocktail. But over all the place is a great place to stay.

June 30 - July 3 stay. Balance Rock exceeded all of our expectations. What a pleasant surprise. Begin with its location, about 1000' down a one lane road off of the village green on Main St. An old mansion apparently, and very well maintained, the "back yard" is a long terrace down to the walk along the Bay. Our room (106) was comfortably sizable with its own porch looking out onto the bay - perfect for departing to "stretch" the dog that accompanied us, perfect for watching the sun rise and perfect for relaxing and contemplating the world. The bay is a never ending source of activity. Lobstermen dropping or pulling in traps, small liners arriving and departing, the four-master coming and going - all from your back porch. The walk along the bay got some pretty regular use with its easy access from the Inn. The town has erected some interesting historic markers along the way. Each side of the king bed was individually adjustable for comfort - really nice touch. In a town of restaurants, check out the one down the hall here at the inn. The chef creates some pretty remarkable stuff. Breakfast - yummy. Lots of fresh local product had us looking forward to seeing what each day's menu would be. Dinner, likewise. Both in a wonderful (and as romantic as you'd like it to be) dining room. The bar, off of the "official" back porch and pool area, was well manned by a very capable mixology professional (and much obliged for his services). The hotel as a whole is capably staffed. Access to all that Bar Harbor offers is a very short stroll away.

Room Tip: 106 was the room that we occupied and the only one that we saw. We were given this room, likely, bec...

We had never been to Bar Harbor and had no preconceived ideas. We wanted to relax and enjoy the local flavor. Balance Rock Inn surpassed our expectations based upon on other positive B-n-B experiences. Our room was great and the whole house was an architectural gem on the end of a quiet lane with an expansive lawn and tranquil view of the water and islands beyond. Most important was the first class service by every staff member that really made our experience fabulous. With bartender Greg's perfect "dark and stormy" on the porch at dusk it could not get any better. We met lots of nice people too. We are planning to go back.

Room Tip: Book early and be willing to stretch your budget

We wanted to explore Acadia trails and mountains but also be close to shopping, restaurants and people. My husband, 17 year old son, dog and I were very pleased with Balance Rock Inn. The location couldn't get any better. Accommodations were very clean and comfortable. My husband and I enjoyed sitting at the bar each night for a drink talking with the bartender when he had a moment. It was so comforting overlooking the deck, pool, lawn, ocean and view of the Porcupine Islands. We sat in the parlor one night and listened to a gentleman who has been going there every night for years to play the piano. Everyone was friendly with the exception of the uncongenial desk personnel. We would definitely recommend this Inn to anyone and hope to return again in the future.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 105, which is right off the lobby, has it's own private deck and walk out to t...

We stayed here for 2 nights on our honeymoon. As a couple in our early 20's, we were the youngest people there by at least 15 years. Many other guests gave us the side eye (especially at the bar) and we felt just plain awkward most of the time. The room was very nice and well taken care of, and the hotel felt very luxurious. However, it is very expensive. I would rather pay less and forgo the platter of perfumes in the bathroom. You couldn't really ask for a better location: five-minute walk downtown and five-minute drive to Acadia. We probably wouldn't stay here again...at least until we were over 40.

Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with the Balance Rock. We do have a great location and a widely diverse clientele. We have families, couples, and especially younger couples that travel to visit us from all over the world. We're sorry if you felt out of place but I assure you that most people are there to have a great time...not generally judging others...especially one' age.

We just came back from two nights at the Balance Rock Inn. How we wish we could have stayed longer!
The location on the water is amazing. I could have spent all day just sitting in one of the Adirondack chairs facing the sea. It is an easy walk into town either along the water or about a block up a little lane. Our rooms were quite small and compact, but we expected that. What sold it all was the balcony that afforded a million dollar view any time day or night where we watched sailboats and ferries, and even a small cruise ship pass us by. We had rooms 305 & 306, two queen rooms with the amazing views. One room (306) had a really noisy wall air conditioner, so we tried to leave the windows open and although it was breezy outside, we could get the air inside. We asked if they might have a fan instead and they found us one immediately. Ah, second night was much better sleeping. We enjoyed sitting by the pool, which was heated in the comfy lounge chairs. Fire pit was a nice bonus. Harry, the bartender was a hard worker. Both nights we were there he was waiting all the tables, and tending bar all on his own. He did an admirable job keeping it all straight and never losing his smile. Everyone knew Harry by name and we truly enjoyed hearing about his life in Bar Harbor and his home in Jamaica. They serve "light bites" in the evening and we were impressed with the menu, the flavors, and the presentation. Breakfast was yummy both days, plentiful and varied. We were most appreciative that it was served until 10 as we are not early risers. We felt so comfortable at the inn, we wanted to go down in the nice robes they provided. There was always coffee, tea, and little treats out during the day.

The only thing I might change is a little update to the rooms, a bit of peeling paint, worn carpets, little stuff like that. A hot tub would be really nice next to the pool, and some fresh flowers instead of the fake arrangements.

We thought it would have been a nice idea to have some photographs of the house in its original state and the family that lived there. We asked several of the staff members about the history, but no one had much information which was surprising. We did find the original blueprints framed on the third floor, so we had fun exploring the property trying to find the original staircases and layout.

My 11 year old daughter with us and everyone was so sweet to her. She loved it so much she started lobbying to go back next summer the moment we pulled out of the driveway. I sure hope we do!

Room Tip: Spend the extra money for a water view. You won't be disappointed.
