Awful hotel! This place is a dump. They say they have newly remodeled rooms, well we stayed there August 09 and our room was a mess. The bed was so hard and uncomfortable that we had to ask for extra blankets to try and pad the bed, and when all they gave us were these warn out old blankets, I went to LL Bean and bought sleeping bags so we could sleep. The rug in the room was a mess, had stains all over it, big stains. The bathroom had mold under the tiles and all around the toilet and shower area. The shower was broken so you had to adjust the handle just right to get it to go to the shower and not the tub, and even when it did, it had zero water pressure. The tub also didn't drain, so after taking a long shower because the water pressure wouldn't wash the shampoo from my hair, I was standing in a foot of filthy water. It also leaked out so the bathroom floor was all wet after each shower. They give you a flimsy paper bath mat, which did next to nothing to soak up the water, and we only got a bath mat 3 days out of 8. The towels were gross, and paper thin, looked like they had been used for 20 years or so. I had to use my beach towels all week. There was also a birds nest in the wall of the bathroom so we had to listen to birds chirping and moving around in the walls every morning. The cottage had zero decorations, was too small and didn't even have a dresser, just two bed side tables and a small table with two bar stools. There isn't even a closet, we had to live out of our suitcases on the floor all week. 3 different days when we came home from being out, our door was unlocked after the maid had been in. On the website they tell you that a Hanscom family member is always on site to help you, and that is not true. When we tried to complain, all we could find was the maid who told us she had already poured a bunch of drano down our tub and didn't know why it wasn't draining. When we arrived at the hotel to check in, about 8:30 pm, the woman at the counter said she was just going to leave us a note that our room was open, and that she was leaving for the night. When she gave us the key, I was looking at brochures of the area and she said that we could come back in the morning if we wanted brochures that she was closing up for the night. A young couple came to our door one evening as we had just gotten back about 11PM, they had been locked out of their cottage and didn't have any way to get a hold of the hotel owners because they didn't have a phone. There was a post it note on the office door to call if you had a problem, but if you are locked out without your phone, how are they supposed to get help. We lent them our cell phone and they called both numbers and left messages because no one answered and then they went back to sit outside thier cottage and hope that someone showed up! Every night there was a post it note on the office door with a note for a new arrival saying to let yourself in and get in touch with them in the morning. Not a very welcoming attitude when you expect to be able to talk to an owner at any time. Notes saying things like " went out for dinner" Also the cooking utensils are a mess, the pans were all scraped up and had flakes of teflon falling off of them, and we had to use the same dish cloth all week to clean our dishes, and no, they don't do the dishes for you. Anyway, Bar Harbor is a beautiful town to visit, so do yourself a favor and find a nice place to stay.
