During our visit to Acadia we stumbled upon the Acadia SUP and their 4th of July fireworks options. It was awesome!
We started the class with a lesson during sunset, proceeded to paddle out to one of the islands in the harbor and then sat on our boards during the fireworks. Chris gave us special lights to wear when it got dark and then we were able to paddle back. It was the perfect mix of lesson, practice, and experiencing the 4th!
We were completely alone in the water and by the island we stopped by. Instead of fighting crowds for seating in the harbor we had our own private viewing experience - highly recommend.
The instructor Chris is certified to teach and gave a great lesson at the beginning. I want to mention that the tours/ lessons include a wetsuit (incase anyone is worried about the water being cold). He is a caring and generous person and willing to go the extra mile to help people in his class. When he noticed someone in our group who was struggling he offered to switch boards with them to make things easier.
I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting the area! For those questioning SUP or kayak – we went for the SUP because it gives you more versatility and is a whole body workout. If you get to warm paddling you can kneel, lie down, or even jump in. From experience I can tell you that with the wetsuit the water is refreshing and not too cold!
